Chapter 47: Nightwalker, Is She Catwoman?
"These shares have been managed by a foundation over the years, so I didn't tell you. Now that you're 18 and officially an adult, and since you're in the U.S., I figured it's time to let you know."
On the screen, Old Su spoke calmly, as if he wasn't talking about $20 billion—a massive asset that could make him a national icon—but just $200 in pocket money.
With Old Su's expression, if he added, "Money is useless to me; I'm not interested in it," Old Sa definitely wouldn't hold back his laughter.
"Since you're in the U.S., I'll transfer half of the shares to you so you can learn how an international corporation operates. When you graduate and return, it'll be easier for you to take over the family business."
Old Su paused strategically, clearly wanting Su Ye to process everything.
After all, anyone suddenly inheriting such a massive fortune would be overwhelmed.
Look at Wang Duoyu—just seeing 1 billion in cash almost gave him a stroke. Now, Su Ye was inheriting $10 billion.
But what Old Su didn't know was that the amount of money didn't stir much in Su Ye. What truly shocked him was Old Su's last statement.
"Learn how international companies operate to take over the family business?"
What the heck, does our family secretly own a mine or something? Is that little workshop back home called "Zhonghua Rising" or what?
Regardless of what Su Ye thought, the share transfer agreement was now effective. He had officially become a shareholder of the Osborn Group, without revealing his Spider-Man identity.
To help manage the shares, Old Su even assigned an experienced butler to assist him.
The butler was a white man in his fifties, with neatly combed graying hair and impeccable attire. According to certain cultured individuals, he had a distinctly British gentleman vibe.
His English name was too long for Su Ye to remember; he only knew that his Chinese name was Pan, and he was called Alfred.
"Young Master," Butler Alfred greeted Su Ye with a bow after Old Su finished his introduction.
Thanks to Old Su, Butler Alfred's Chinese was excellent, with precise wording and professional etiquette.
However, the name "Butler Alfred" gave Su Ye an oddly familiar sense of déjà vu.
Young Master—someday, he'll become the Master, won't he?
"Xiao Ye, I didn't expect Uncle Su to hide so much. If I hadn't returned today and convened the board to discuss you… uh, Spider-Man's affairs, I wouldn't have known that Uncle Su is also a major shareholder in our group."
For a large publicly traded company with a complex ownership structure, holding 10% of the shares really made someone a major shareholder.
Su Ye nodded. "I didn't expect it either—that I was born way beyond other people's finish lines. To think, not long ago, I was running around for a mere 3,000 bucks… forget it, I won't get into it."
"By the way, Butler Alfred, do we have a place to stay in New York?"
Su Ye turned to Alfred Pennyworth. It wasn't that his current rental was bad, nor did he have immediate plans to move. He was just testing a suspicion.
Sure enough, Alfred Pennyworth nodded. "Of course, Young Master. It's a large place too—you could easily host parties with beautiful women there."
Hearing Alfred Pennyworth's words, a few phrases inexplicably popped into Su Ye's mind.
Luxury yacht parties, roulette tables, deep-sea torpedoes, wild rides, and so on...
'Am I being too indecent? No, no, those rich people just know how to have more fun… Wait, I almost forgot—I'm rich now too. Can I start living it up?'
Su Ye shook his head, clearing the strange thoughts. Then he followed Alfred Pennyworth to check out his new mansion.
When they arrived, it was indeed massive. Rather than a house, it was more like a castle. The grounds alone were immeasurable, and by a rough count, there were dozens of rooms.
"This castle… it's ours?"
The $10 billion fortune didn't shake him, but this mansion—worth at most tens or hundreds of millions—left him speechless.
"If someone played an escape room game here, it'd drive them mad!"
"Escape rooms? So Young Master enjoys that kind of thing? I can arrange for renovations," Alfred Pennyworth suggested respectfully.
"I was just joking," Su Ye shook his head. "Did Old Su buy this castle? How long ago? Who usually lives here? Is there maintenance staff? The property taxes and management fees must be outrageous. Old Su is such a spender!"
"Uh..." Alfred Pennyworth didn't know how to respond. If he agreed, it'd be disrespectful to the Master. If he disagreed, it'd be disrespectful to the Young Master. Either way felt wrong.
However, Alfred Pennyworth finally spoke. "This property is managed by a professional team. It's often rented out to the Osborn Group for events like banquets, so not only does it not lose money, but it also generates substantial profit and offers tax deductions. It's quite a valuable asset."
"Of course, if you prefer, Young Master, we can reclaim it for your private use."
Su Ye waved his hand decisively. "Forget it, no need. Living alone in such a big house would be terrifying, especially at night. Maybe if I get more girlfriends in the future… ahem!"
"Let's go, Butler Alfred. Does this place have a basement or any underground structures? Let's check it out."
Su Ye wasn't here to admire the mansion but to see if there was a Batcave.
That's right, the Batcave—the one belonging to Batman.
A mansion resembling a castle, a butler named Alfred, and a billion-dollar inheritance—if this wasn't Batman, Su Ye wouldn't believe it himself.
So, does that mean Nightwalker's girlfriend is Catwoman? The one played by Anne Hathaway? (Anyone got a picture of her?)
Catwoman is canonically a morally ambiguous thief, which fits the title of Nightwalker perfectly.
Thus, Su Ye was almost 100% sure his new identity was Batman—the lone guardian of Gotham, a hero who never kills, willing to bear the infamy of a murderer as the Dark Knight.
Gotham was essentially New York, so Batman's duty would be to protect this city.
However, while New York might need a Batman, Su Ye was certain he wouldn't follow in the movie Batman's footsteps.
Spider-Man has already started killing; if Batman joins in, this city will be drenched in blood.
