Chapter 1496: Plan 1007 (First Update)
"And then what happened."
A high-end nightclub in Ginza.
It was rare for CEO Cao to have some leisure time, and hearing Jiang Chen's report on the mission's progress, he was intrigued and full of interest.
This didn't surprise Jiang Chen. It wasn't as if they had only known each other for a day or two; he knew well how the other thought.
Besides.
Regarding the "negotiation process" with Li Ji, he just summarized briefly, without delving into specific details.
"I stayed under the pedestal with her for almost half an hour, nearly suffocating, before Wataru Tetsuya finally left."
Jiang Chen subtly highlighted his own diligence and conscientiousness.
"Half an hour, you guys just stayed hidden in the throne?"
CEO Cao lived up to his name, always catching the key points.
Jiang Chen nodded calmly.
"Didn't do anything?"
Cao Jinse continued to ask.
Having almost fought under the throne of the Sun Illumination God, Jiang Chen was extraordinarily calm, showing no signs of embarrassment or exhaustion. "Wataru Tetsuya was just outside, less than three meters away, we could barely breathe."
Cao Jinse didn't offer condolences, instead sipped her cocktail. "Wataru Tetsuya really didn't notice you guys?"
They weren't meeting alone; both had brought their own security forces.
Tanki Liuli was naturally not fond of such places, but fortunately, Mao Tu was there to play dice with her. In this foreign land, their relationship seemed to flourish and they had formed quite a friendship.
"Probably not."
In the end, Wataru Tetsuya left with no sign of anything unusual, even with two people "rolling around" inside the throne.
"Seems like the soundproofing is good."
Cao Jinse mumbled.
Jiang Chen remained indifferent. Soundproofing aside, the main reason they weren't exposed was because he hadn't accepted Li Ji's "request" of performing frenzied acts in their national religious venue, in front of the gods they worshipped and the Imperial Family.
Otherwise, he should now be a "national hero" and a "model of the times," headlining global tabloid news.
"I suspect she did it intentionally."
Jiang Chen remarked.
"Who did it intentionally?"
"Li Ji."
Based on a reasonable deduction of events, Jiang Chen concluded, "Wataru Tetsuya could have been invited by her."
"What's the reason?"
"The timing was too coincidental. As soon as we finished talking, Wataru Tetsuya arrived."
"What's Fujiwara Reiki's purpose in doing so? If she did it intentionally, why would she hide with you afterward?"
Jiang Chen fell silent.
Seeing is believing.
No matter how strong an intelligence network is, it doesn't compare to direct contact.
Cao Jinse surely wouldn't understand how unpredictable Li Ji's personality could be, but he did.
He used to think Shi Qianxi was a devil; even his phone notes said so. However, regardless of how capricious and impulsive Miss Shi was, there was still a logic to her actions.
But Fujiwara Reiki was different.
Jiang Chen even suspected that she might not understand the motivations for some of her actions herself.
Just like when they hid under the base of the statue, he asked why she joined him. Fujiwara Reiki seemed stunned, as if she was a child playing a game without thinking, just acting on a whim without reason.
"Maybe there's another possibility."
"What possibility?"
Cao Jinse held her cocktail glass, "It wasn't Fujiwara Reiki who invited Wataru Tetsuya; it was Wataru Tetsuya who invited Fujiwara Reiki."
"Then she could have rescheduled with me."
The nightclub's flashing elusive lights swept over Cao Jinse's face, "Have you ever considered that in Fujiwara Reiki's mind, you might hold a status similar to the Prince?"
Jiang Chen couldn't help but laugh.
Alright.
Even if he didn't refute this evaluation, after playing hide-and-seek at Shiyao Shrine, his relationship with Fujiwara Reiki might no longer look promising.
"What's the relationship between the Fujiwara Consortium and the Japanese Imperial Family?"
"Are you asking about the relationship between Fujiwara Reiki and Wataru Tetsuya?"
Cao Jinse said casually, "The relationship between wealth and power couldn't be simpler."
Jiang Chen didn't continue asking; he never was fond of gossip.
He glanced over at Mao Tu and Tanki Liuli playing dice.
Tanki Liuli had definitely never played such a game, undoubtedly a novice, yet Mao Tu couldn't gain any advantage.
Take for instance the current game of lowball.
Mao Tu managed to shake out five ones, and if you encounter such a player in a nightclub, there's only one option: run immediately with an excuse. But who would have thought, when Tanki Liuli opened her cup, she had rolled a "one."
That's right.
Five dice stacked on top of each other.
Creating the unimaginable "one."
This dice trick might mean nothing to two masters, but Mao Tu's intellect was clearly outclassed.
Rolling five dice into a one, neither of the players should find it difficult, but the question was whether they could think of it.
Seeing Mao Tu's wide-open eyes, Jiang Chen smiled and looked away.
"Even though I talked with her, truth be told, I doubt there's much hope."
Nonsense.
Don't even mention cooperation; it's a miracle she isn't sabotaging you after nearly losing her dignity.
"It doesn't matter what the outcome is, as long as you did your best."
Cao Jinse clinked glasses, unclear if it was for Jiang Chen or herself.
Jiang Chen swallowed a mouthful of brandy, "In such a situation, it's not easy to retreat, right? Who would be willing to be the next receiver?"
Other assets in Dongying were fine.
The key was the source of everything—Yingdong Electric Power.
Carrying the world's infamy, at such a juncture, anyone with some sense wouldn't want to associate with Yingdong Electric Power, even if Jiuding Group wanted to "sell at a discount", likely no one would dare "bottom fish."
There aren't many fools among the top echelons of the wealthy.
"The targeted Yingdong Electric Power is now just a huge fire pit. Anyone unrelated won't jump into it, but what if they're already inside the fire pit?"
Jiang Chen furrowed his brow, looking at Cao Jinse.
"If things get to the worst scenario, Jiuding always has one escape route."
"Cynthia?" Jiang Chen replied.
It's reached this point; there's no need to stick to conventions. Cao Jinse no longer adhered to so-called commercial secrets, nodding slightly.
"Cynthia has enough strength and reason to allow Jiuding Group to retreat fully."
Jiang Chen contemplated.
Being prepared ensures safety.
Planning for the worst is never a bad idea.
Divesting, indeed, could be a viable move.
But such preservation comes with its pain.
"According to the conduct of Western capital markets, by then, not only Yingdong Electric Power but likely an entire bundle of Jiuding's assets in Dongying will be required."
"Jiuding originally planned to exit Dongying."
When saying this, Cao Jinse didn't appear despondent. In business as in war, no one wins every time, failures are an inevitable experience, but Jiang Chen's next words halted her movement of raising her glass.
"What if Jiuding's exit from Dongying is part of someone else's plan?"
