Chapter 222: Anyone Who Dares Interrupt My Embrace Will Get Smashed Like a Dog's Head (Part 6)
In the apocalypse, the survivors of Qingshui Town grew from a few dozen to over a hundred people, the extras being refugees from outside.
The townspeople were quite friendly, and when they saw these refugees arrive, they took them in.
Fang Zhan knew that people's hearts could be treacherous in the apocalypse, so he kept his guard up, instructing trustworthy individuals to keep a close eye on the refugees to prevent any sabotage.
But perhaps because Qingshui Town had ample food and was safe.
Nothing dramatic occurred.
In this apocalypse, Qingshui Town continued to develop steadily.
Until… now.
A horde of zombies, as if sensing fresh flesh, swarmed in, trying to break through the defenses of Qingshui Town. Facing such a situation, how could the residents of Qingshui Town let the zombies run amok?
Swish!
Swish!
The sound of flesh being pierced.
Everyone had gotten used to life in the apocalypse and no longer feared zombies as they did at the beginning; naturally, they dared to brandish their weapons, cutting down the zombies trying to invade.
"Brother Fang, the number of zombies is just too many. The piles of corpses are getting too high. If this continues, the zombies will be able to climb over them. We have to think of something." A survivor shouted.
Fang Zhan's expression was grave. He knew the best outcome would be to hold off the zombie attack. Although Qingshui Town had fishing boats, they were all small and few in number, unable to accommodate so many survivors.
Of course, to be on the safe side, he had already instructed a cellar to be dug for hiding people, with lots of supplies inside.
But that was the last resort.
And that retreat could only sustain them for so long. The final outcome wouldn't be being bitten by zombies, but rather dying in fights among themselves.
No one wanted to die, and although there was food in the cellar, no one minded having one less person to share it with.
Hiding for a long time would lead some to not want to share food with others, wanting to keep it all for themselves. The only outcome would be to kill those around them.
"Keep killing."
"Okay."
Some swung their weapons with faces flushed, piercing the zombie's heads, while others trembled slightly as they gripped their weapons, their hearts filled with dread at the sight of the grotesque zombies.
They looked at the zombies' terrifying manners, their hearts filled with fear as terror crept into their hearts.
"There's no way to win. We can't withstand the zombie assault." This long-haired young survivor said while backing away.
Clang!
The weapon in his hand dropped.
He turned and ran.
"I refuse to fight any longer. I'm heading to the fishing boats; the zombies are growing in number, and we can't hold them off any longer."
He shouted as he ran.
"Come back."
Fang Zhan's face changed dramatically. At such a time, someone deserting would have a huge impact. He knew who it was, someone taken in a month and a half ago. From the beginning, he seemed a bit crazy and foolish, with no idea how he survived till then.
But since the person was already here, he couldn't just watch him leave.
Later, when building the defenses, he noticed the person was lazy, unwilling to make an effort, always slacking off.
With his desertion.
The mindset of some began to waver.
Escaping now meant two paths: one was running to the fishing boats, the other hiding in the cellar.
The food in the cellar was more abundant.
The boats were small, with little food on board.
Those capable of holding the line were this group of young people, as Qingshui Town had many elderly who couldn't possibly fight the zombies.
"Brother Fang, we seem really unable to hold them off."
The speaking survivor looked forward.
The number of zombies wasn't overwhelming, like locusts, but it was sizeable. Given the current situation, being breached was just a matter of time.
Fang Zhan frowned. He knew everyone's mentality was steadily crumbling.
"Everyone, this is our last home. If the zombies break through here, we can only live on the fishing boats or in the cellar. How long can we last like that?"
He hoped everyone would understand what he was saying.
It's just that…
Clatter!
While killing zombies, someone had their weapon caught by a zombie, which applied pressure.
The person tumbled down, falling into the horde of zombies.
"Save me… ah…"
A scream rang out.
That survivor was engulfed by zombies, followed by a terrible scream that was short-lived and then silent.
This scene frightened many people.
Seeing a living person bitten to death by zombies stirred everyone's hearts.
"Brother Fang, it's not that I'm scared, but I feel there's simply no hope. Hiding on the boats or in the cellar, we still have a chance to live. If there was a glimmer of hope, I wouldn't give up, Brother Fang, sorry."
After speaking, the person turned and ran.
"You all…"
Fang Zhan was so angry he could have cursed.
But legs were on someone else's body; even if he wanted to stop them, he couldn't.
"Brother Fang, we're not leaving."
Of course, many didn't want to give up; they knew the consequences of giving up. Qingshui Town was their last place of activity; hiding on the boats or in the cellar was merely waiting to die.
But as some survivors fled in panic.
The defenses lost some coverage.
Without superior firepower, it was hard to fend off zombies on a large scale with just melee weapons.
And just then.
Fang Zhan saw a zombie creeping up, about to grab a companion, and hurriedly shouted.
"Watch out…"
Bang!
A crisp gunshot sounded.
The climbing zombie's head instantly exploded.
The gunshot stunned Fang Zhan, who looked towards the distance.
"That is…"
Fang Zhan's eyes widened, filled with shock. It was a steel torrent…
Tanks.
Armored vehicles.
There were many vehicles.
"The military, it's the military."
Before Fang Zhan could say anything, someone shouted excitedly, as this was hope appearing in desperate times.
The gunfire attracted the zombies attacking Qingshui Town.
The zombies turned their attention to the distant steel torrent, let out sinister howls, and then charged madly in that direction.
Armored vehicles and tanks cleared the way.
Soldiers with guns followed alongside the vehicles, methodically suppressing with continuous firepower.
Ratatatatata!
Bullets roared like raindrops.
The charging zombies, under such dense bullet coverage, were instantly shredded into beehives.
