Chapter 540 I Must Go In
They could feel something whizzing by their ears, but luckily their agility and quick reflexes saved them from calamity.
If it were an ordinary person, they would've had no chance to dodge at all.
"Who's there?"
They bellowed into the darkness.
But in the pitch-black night, they couldn't make out the direction, nor could they pinpoint where these people were hiding.
In the end, as they tried to move forward to investigate, they suddenly sensed a cold weapon being thrown at them, and once again, with a leap, they narrowly escaped the strike.
If they continued forward, the same situation would continue. He knew he couldn't afford to wander aimlessly now.
"Quick, take cover behind the trees, or we'll surely be attacked."
He shouted loudly, and everyone scattered towards the trees. Those who were slower or less nimble were practically left behind.
Finally, they took shelter and, panting, surveyed the situation outside.
The predicament was clear: they were exposed while the enemy lurked in the dark, making it impossible to get a bead on their position.
"What do we do now?"
They shouted loudly into the unknown.
"I'm not sure. It looks like there are many of them up ahead, but we can't tell how many. These silent weapons are too fast; a single misstep and we're sure to be hit."
After saying all this, he just nodded. Everyone now clearly understood the gravity of the situation.
As they quieted down, the cold weapons stopped being fired from outside.
It seemed he'd realized – these people didn't want his life; they wanted to trap him here.
If that was their aim, he truly couldn't leave this place anytime soon.
He glanced in that direction and saw that there appeared to be a shortcut through the forest that could be a way to break through from a different direction.
The key issue now was that they no longer had a vehicle; traveling on foot would take at least a couple of hours to reach that spot.
Once all this became a fait accompli, even the desire to turn things around would be futile.
Yang Da arrived at the rendezvous point, worn and haggard, and saw only one car standing solitary.
Originally, several cars had taken off, so why only one had returned was puzzling.
Yang Da found this quite strange.
Just as he was grappling with this confusion, the car door opened, and he saw the Scorpion Gang boss, who then climbed into his own car.
"What's going on? Where are the others?"
"Two groups were attacked on the way, and now they've been delayed—so they probably won't make it back anytime soon."
"What? Attacked on the road? What exactly happened?"
"I'm not sure, but it seems like those people were just trying to delay them."
"So they don't want them to meet me, meaning there might be a threat in this area?"
"That's why I thought to discuss it with you. Maybe you shouldn't go, Mr. Yang."
"No, I must get into the Underground Hospital. I'm even suspecting Yang Wenyu has already been taken by them."
"If the young master has been taken away, what's the point of you going down there? I bet it's already empty; it's meaningless."
"Have you forgotten about the secret laboratory?"
He turned suddenly, fixing his gaze on him as he spoke.
The other man was stunned for a moment before the realization dawned on him.
"Right, I completely forgot. But it's a place not easily found by anyone, and even if they find it, they couldn't get in."
"Even if they can't get in, I have to take the contents with me. This place is totally blown, so we can't leave anything behind."
"But Mr. Yang, it's too dangerous for you to go there like this."
"Even if it's dangerous, we have no choice. This concerns our entire corporation, including my personal fortune and destiny, so it can't be left to anyone else."
"Then why don't we just destroy this base? That would erase the trail."
"If only destruction was that simple. All our years of research are in there. If we destroy it now, decades of hard work would be wasted."
"So, we only have one option to go inside, right?"
"The only way is in. Those two groups won't be back for a while, can we confirm that?"
"Yes, it's confirmed."
"Alright then. Even if I must pass through hellfire, it seems I must take the chance. Let's go in."
Saying this, he nodded, and the group jumped out of the car.
Once down, they encircled Yang Da tightly and began to scout the area.
After confirming their safety, they proceeded towards the entrance under the group's escort.
Thankfully, everything went smoothly, and they took the elevator down into the mysterious Underground Hospital.
Upon entering the lobby, he saw that the Doctor and nurses were already on the ground. There was no need to guess – the place had been attacked.
"Quick, check the intensive care unit first. If we're lucky, Yang Wenyu might not have been taken."
Until now, Yang Da still harbored some slim hope.
He felt that perhaps the intruders had merely come to uncover the hospital's secrets, and if nothing had been found, they might just leave, without targeting Yang Wenyu.
