Chapter 77.1
Recap: Mrs. Lovtree was murmuring herself, but it was none of my business.
I was exhausted enough to care about such things. Only then did Mrs. Lovtree quietly open her mouth.“Something never changes. Her temper is still the same.”
A hint of displeasure appeared in her expression.‘As expected It looks like they don’t have a good relationship.’
I nodded my head tactfully.
“Just as you saw why, nothing has changed.”
She muttered, rolling her eyes.
“The capital’s nobles are arrogant and fox-like. They are the ones who pretend to be friendly and then stab you from behind, so you have to be careful.”
“Is that so?” – Avril
After hearing my reply, Mrs. Lovtree added a frustrating explanation.
“Of course! Those aristocrats must have been excited about this scandal and started talking about it. They are wary of you, a southern aristocrat, becoming popular.”
In other words, it meant that they could become my enemy.
I nodded as I understood what she was trying to say.
“I’ll be careful, mother.”
“Yes. And I don’t feel relieved to see you returning to the social world after such a long time.”
She took a deep breath and suddenly opened her eyes narrowly.
She was clearly out shopping, but now she was as sharp as a wild beast.
The sharp eyes became scary as if they had caught prey.
I immediately turned my head in the direction she was looking at.
It was a flower garden full of beautiful flowers.
She wants to buy flowers all of a sudden?
I asked her with a puzzled expression.
“Do you want to go to the flower shop?”
“No, look further.”
When I looked where Mrs. Lovtree was pointing, I saw a woman wearing a wide hat that covered all of her jet-black hair.
I looked at her closely and nodded at once.
The woman was walking with her head lowered, maybe to cover her face, but I can confidently say it was Andrea, the princess of Latella.
‘But why is her hair black? Did she dye it ?’
Soon she saw me and waved.
Mrs. Lovtree flatly dismissed the princess’s actions.
“It’s frivolous.”
“Mother!”
Mrs. Lovtree looked at me with a puzzled expression and said,
“What’s wrong with you? Don’t even think about hanging out with someone like that.”
Mrs. Lovtree shook her head as if it was too scary to even think about it.
I grabbed her by the arm and whispered quietly.
“She is a good person.”
“Avril, that’s your enemy.”
“That’s not true mother. You know that the scandal is a lie.”
Mrs. Lovtree shut her eyes tightly.
Her closed eyelids trembled.
When she finally opened her eyes, she grabbed my arm and led me into the alley.
Then she spat out words as if pouring a potion into my ears.
“Are you out of your mind? If you want to live, you must destroy the princess. She must be prevented from ever setting foot in society again so that you will be safe. Avril, you should know that by now.”
Her words were harsh, but her eyes were full of worry.
It seemed like Mrs. Lovtree was worried that my reputation might be harmed by the princess.
I soothed Mrs. Lovtree’s arm as if to calm her down.
What Mrs. Lovtree said was not wrong.
But I had another reason.
‘I must not fall out with the princess.’
Without her Austell’s curse can’t be lifted even so the outcome will be grim
if I had a fallout with her.
Mrs. Lovtree bit her lip, perhaps embarrassed by my silence.
I comforted her as she became anoxius.
“It’s okay. I got a promise from the princess.”
“You’re naive! The scandal is just the beginning. Why don’t you know that the King is keeping Asellus in check? He won’t stop scheming until your husband marries the princess. His ulterior motive is just clear as water.”
Mrs. Lovtree hit the nail.
But I am not a optimistic either.
I had no intention of being distracted by other people’s actions.
I looked up at Mrs. Lovtree and from the bottom of my heart said, with sincerity.
“I will get the princess on my side.”
“Easier said than done.”
“Just wait and see.”
I turned and walked out of the alley, but the princess must have sensed the situation and was looking the other way, looking at the exhibition hall.
When she noticed my presence, she turned to me and smiled.
“It’s been a while, Avril.”
“Yes Your Highness, but what bring you here?”
“Hush, I came out secretly, so just call me unnie.”
The princess grabbed my arm and acted friendly.
Before I could stutter out of embarrassment, the princess took me somewhere.
I hurriedly looked back at Mrs. Lovtree, and saw that she was looking at the princess with murderous eyes.
Mrs. Lovtree just whispered to me only synacing her lip.
‘Keep my word in mind.’
With those words, she reached us.
Then she looked surprised, as if she had discovered the princess by chance.
“Oh my, Your Highness?”
“Oh no, My disguise fell through.”
The princess smiled awkwardly.
It was a lovely smile, but it didn’t seem to be visible to Mrs. Lovtree.
She said, after pulling me away from the princess.
“Maybe I am getting out of line as a noble but what’s going on here.
Your Highness can’t leave the royal palace like this.”
“What you saw here just keep it a secret for me.”
Mrs. Lovtree smiled.
Mrs. Lovtree gave a flimsy smile.
“Of course Your Highness.”
Contrary to her answer, the scenario in her head seemed to be complicated.
It was clearly visible that she was thinking about how to exaggerate this matter.
Perhaps sharing my thoughts, the princess added.
“I’m just on my way from meeting the Marquis of Austell, and it’s nice to meet you all like this.”
Mrs. Lovtree’s face suddenly hardened at the princess’s reply.
She barely pulled in the corners of her mouth and asked.
“What’s going on with both of you?”
“That’s why I have something important to talk about.”
The princess smiled after finishing her words. Mrs. Lovtree followed suit as well.
It was a sound of laughter as if an iron bar was being struck on a frozen lake.
After an awkward laugh, Mrs. Lovtree spoke without hiding her irritation.
“Your Highness has acted in a way that will be problematic for the two of you. I can’t believe you are acting in this manner in front of so many people that are keeping an eye on you. Do you enjoy the controversy?
“That can’t be possible. Marquise Austell just requested an audience, so I accepted it.”
The princess’s eyes suddenly blazed like a pink pearl, as if she were declaring a fight.
Nevertheless, her face was full of laughter.
