I can upgrade the shelter

Chapter 243 Busy (Second Update)

Chen Xin did not stay long at Bao Zhen's place. After negotiating with two staff members to exchange a chicken for 120 liters of diesel, Chen Xin and the staff members left.

Bao Zhen escorted Chen Xin and the others out of the shelter and then picked up a shovel to continue digging the tunnel. Although the tunnel was already opened, Bao Zhen needed to reinforce and modify it if he wanted to use this passage to come and go.

Meanwhile, Chen Xin returned to the rescue station with the staff.

"Chen Xin, you're back? I was just looking for you!" As soon as Chen Xin returned, the team leader immediately approached him and said, "The convoy heading back to the city for help is ready. We need your car to lead the way, but your driver said he couldn't take the responsibility without you here. Can you quickly let him know so the convoy can set off?"

Upon hearing the leader's words, Chen Xin wanted to smack his own forehead as he realized he forgot to inform Han Ping about this matter before leaving.

So Chen Xin hurried back to his car, found Han Ping, and quickly instructed him to lead the convoy back to the city for help.

Han Ping did not object. In fact, he had already prepared to set off when the leader approached him earlier; he was just hesitant to agree to the task without Chen Xin's permission.

Now that Chen Xin was back, confirming they indeed needed to head back to the city for help, Han Ping naturally wasted no time and drove the convoy off.

While it was convenient to agree to head back to the city for help, with the car gone, Chen Xin was left wondering where he would sleep that night.

Since both Qin Lan and Mo Qingyan were sleeping in the car, with the car gone, their beds essentially left too, meaning they'd have to find another place to sleep that night.

However, that wasn't too much of a problem; they could still sleep in other rescue vehicles, although the conditions weren't as good as Chen Xin's car. It was just a temporary inconvenience for a night, and everything would be fine once Han Ping returned with the car.

The main issue was that Qin Lan and Mo Qingyan were two women, who needed extra care.

Therefore, Chen Xin wasn't overly worried about it. He mentioned it to the leader, asking him to arrange accommodations for the night, and then walked into the rescue tent to see if there was anything he could help with.

Inside the emergency station, there were still many patients undergoing treatment in front of the doctors. Several SWAT officers, wearing exoskeletons, were maintaining order in the tent, their bodies flashing the distinct red and blue lights typical of police.

Compared to when Chen Xin previously observed people causing trouble, things seemed to have improved quite a bit. The patients who came for treatment were mostly stable emotionally, and their eyes were full of expectation when looking at the doctors.

Even those who needed surgery or amputations could generally accept it calmly under the doctor's persuasion.

This change surprised Chen Xin a little, but upon reflection, he could understand. After all, only a few individuals would cause trouble; most people still desire to survive and wouldn't kick up a fuss needlessly.

Chen Xin was completely unfamiliar with medicine, so naturally, he couldn't assist the doctors. He walked through the triage area and went to the back wards.

The wards were a bit emptier compared to before; at least Chen Xin saw a few empty beds upon entering, which was a marked improvement over the previously overcrowded situation.

"Head nurse, is there anything I can help with?" Chen Xin approached the head nurse in the wards, seeing her conducting an examination on a patient, and waited until she finished to inquire if there was anything he could assist with.

The head nurse, somewhat dazed from being busy, paused at Chen Xin's appearance but quickly thought and said to him, "Could you help with moving the oxygen cylinders from the vehicles? We've got all girls here; they can't manage those, and the drivers have driven off. I was just worrying about not having anyone to help!"

Catching the head nurse's words, Chen Xin asked her, "Where are the oxygen cylinders?"

The head nurse hurriedly called over a junior nurse to lead Chen Xin to move the oxygen cylinders.

Leaving the wards with the junior nurse, and arriving near a vehicle parked around the area, she opened the car door, pointed at the blue oxygen cylinders inside, and said to Chen Xin, "The cylinders are in the vehicle; please move two down and deliver them to the ward over there."

Chen Xin nodded, signaling the junior nurse to stand aside, then climbed into the vehicle and carefully moved a person-high oxygen cylinder from inside the compartment to the vehicle door, finally embedding it carefully in the snow with the nurse's help.

The oxygen cylinder was quite heavy, and filled with liquid oxygen, it can't be horizontally placed. All it could do was stand upright in the nearby snow.

After moving another oxygen cylinder down, Chen Xin asked the junior nurse, "Weren't you issued exoskeletons when you arrived? Why aren't they in use?"

"We don't know how to use those; only a few drivers were trained before coming here. We were afraid of accidents, so we didn't dare use them," the junior nurse explained to Chen Xin and thanked him, saying, "Thanks for your help; if it weren't for you, handling these oxygen cylinders would've been tough for us."

An oxygen cylinder is indeed heavy. Typically, moving it involves tilting it on the ground and rolling it, making it easier to push along. But lifting it, a filled oxygen cylinder would be challenging for fewer than two adults to manage.

Luckily for Chen Xin, with the aid of an exoskeleton, these seventy-kilogram cylinders were still manageable to carry.

Holding an oxygen cylinder in his arms, Chen Xin suggested to the junior nurse, "Let's do it in two trips; moving both at once isn't ideal. Is it to the tent up front?"

"Yes, just deliver it there; thank you so much," said the junior nurse, watching Chen Xin easily lift the cylinder, and feeling a wave of envy. After thinking a moment, she asked Chen Xin, "Can you teach me how to use the exoskeleton?"

"Of course! It's not complicated; you'll learn quickly. If you all could use them yourselves, it would make many tasks much easier," Chen Xin readily agreed to the nurse's request.

After moving the oxygen cylinders into the wards and placing them properly, Chen Xin did not leave but rather stayed to assist the junior nurse with chores.

There was plenty to do in the wards: assigning beds to new patients, moving beds for post-operative patients, transporting and integrating medical equipment...

With just a few junior nurses on the ward, it was indeed insufficient to handle everything. Even with Chen Xin's help, everyone was busy with no moments to spare.

For these junior nurses, who had arrived from the city after a several-hour car journey in the morning, and immediately jumped into the thick of work in the afternoon, it was indeed a grueling day.

By the time dinner came around and most of the patients were settled, they finally found a moment for a brief rest.

At this time, the earlier junior nurse sought out Chen Xin, hoping to use this downtime to learn how to operate the exoskeleton.
