Chapter 541: Corpse Carrying Skill
The people outside are taking action, and Tian Lin, who has entered the Corpse Well, is not idle either.
The dense Corpse Qi fills the entire space below the Corpse Well, obstructing his Divine Sense from probing.
However, this hardly troubles Tian Lin. He mobilizes his True Qi to activate the Array Plate in his hand.
In just an instant, the previously dead-silent Corpse Qi rushes toward the Array Plate in Tian Lin's hand.
The Array Plate has the effect of attracting Corpse Qi but does not have the capacity to store it. Fortunately, Tian Lin can absorb Corpse Qi; he takes advantage of the Array Plate's attraction to fully absorb the dense Corpse Qi into his body.
Large amounts of Corpse Qi transform into Spiritual Energy, which is absorbed by Tian Lin's Dantian.
He then vigorously exercises his divine skills to convert this Spiritual Energy into True Qi—though unfortunately, the speed at which he converts Spiritual Energy to True Qi is not fast enough, somewhat delaying the absorption of Corpse Qi.
Even so, the Corpse Qi below the Corpse Well, accumulated over countless years, is quickly absorbed by him.
With the obstruction of Corpse Qi gone below the Corpse Well, Tian Lin's Divine Sense is no longer affected.
As he takes it all in, four black coffins come into view.
Tian Lin steps forward, simply surrounding the four black coffins with several Array Flags.
These Array Flags number one hundred and eight and are actually used for 'territory encirclement'.
But now, 'encircling territory' is clearly not feasible, so they can be used to guard against sudden corpse reanimation.
Even though ten or so flags can't establish a complete array, they are sufficient to handle ordinary Droughts.
Having set the flags, Tian Lin opens the first black coffin.
Originally, he was prepared to suffer an onslaught of Corpse Qi, but the Corpse Qi emerging from the opened black coffin leaves Tian Lin stunned.
It wasn't that there was little Corpse Qi, but rather the Corpse Qi was notably less than expected.
Tian Lin doesn't even need to employ the Corpse Gathering Array to guide the Corpse Qi into his body.
Soon, a dried corpse appears inside the black coffin, with a visage of an iron-green face and long fangs.
But Tian Lin immediately sees that the dried corpse hasn't been dead for very long.
"A disciple of Xiangxi Sect?"
Looking at the robes on the dried corpse, Tian Lin is momentarily stunned; his mind immediately follows with a thought.
As a disciple of Wenda Sect, although he had studied Funeral Science, after achieving the status of a True Disciple, he rarely ventured into the lore of the Funeral Dao.
Tian Lin had previously cultivated the divine skill 'Sealing Earth Skill'. However, while Sealing Earth Skill can bury and suppress dried corpses, trying to suppress a Drought with his current cultivation is impossible.
Instead, the 'Corpse Carrying Skill' is something of a high-risk reward technique, being a skill practiced by corpse chasers.
Tian Lin has some understanding of Corpse Carrying Skill, having learned a bit from Elder Ran in the land of mass burial.
Driven by thought, Tian Lin pulls the Xiangxi Sect disciple from the black coffin upward.
As his hands touch the Xiangxi Sect disciple, a large amount of Corpse Qi follows this disciple's body into Tian Lin's own.
As Tian Lin hoists the Xiangxi Sect disciple over his back, the Xiangxi Sect disciple suddenly opens his eyes.
Clearly, this Xiangxi Sect disciple has been reanimated.
However, this Xiangxi Sect disciple is merely a walking corpse, not possessing significant destructive power.
Furthermore, Tian Lin has already prepared the array formation, fearing no rebellion.
"Corpse Carrying Skill may not be an extraordinary divine skill, but as a mandatory skill for all Xiangxi Sect disciples, there must be some merit. Though entering is easy, to achieve true proficiency is extremely difficult.
Its difficulty does not lie in the requirements for insight and talent but rather in the tolerance for Corpse Qi. Even though I am not a disciple of Xiangxi Sect, my tolerance for Corpse Qi is actually stronger than that of their disciples."
At this moment, the dried corpse on Tian Lin's back struggles vehemently, but his arms are directly snapped by Tian Lin, and his legs are locked at Tian Lin's waist.
Vast quantities of Corpse Qi pour from the dried corpse into Tian Lin's body, but these corpses merely become Spiritual Energy surging into Tian Lin's system.
Even more so, as the number of corpses in the body increases, the weakened strength of the Xiangxi Sect disciple on his back leads him to gradually enhance his comprehension of the Corpse Carrying Skill.
The reason Corpse Carrying Skill is a compulsory skill for Xiangxi Sect disciples, while not promoted for cultivation among Wenda Sect disciples, lies in its trade-off of life essence for the enhancement and insight into the skill.
The Xiangxi Sect disciples themselves require Corpse Qi for cultivation, which is understandable.
But for Wenda Sect disciples, the more Corpse Qi invading their bodies, the more it hinders their cultivation.
Thus, although the Corpse Carrying Skill has its merits, many are wary of its drawbacks and refrain from cultivating it.
Tian Lin had never considered becoming a corpse chaser. Moreover, the Corpse Carrying Skill is not compatible with the Five Elements Cultivation Technique, offering no benefit to his cultivation.
Hence, he never entertained the idea of cultivating this skill until now—
About fifteen minutes later, the corpse on Tian Lin's back ceased to struggle.
And from his back, not a single trace of Corpse Qi could be extracted.
Convinced that the corpse on his back was thoroughly 'exhausted', Tian Lin let go of its hands and feet, letting it fall to the ground.
The once iron-green-faced walking corpse now lay soft as muddy sludge, even more so than a normal corpse.
Nevertheless, Tian Lin knew very well that in such a Land of Corpse Nourishment, especially in such a supernatural place.
If this muddy corpse wasn't dealt with, it wouldn't be long before it evolved into a walking corpse again.
If Xiangxi Sect had such a Land of Corpse Nourishment, they might leave the muddy corpse there, but Tian Lin held no such idea.
He waved his hand, directing True Qi at the corpse, smashing it into mud.
Still unsatisfied, fearing a resurgence, he cast a fireball, turning the mud into ashes.
Having done so, Tian Lin finally moved toward the second black coffin.
As he reached to touch the second black coffin, a watchman's beat sounded from above the Corpse Well.
"Indeed, according to Zhou Ting's plan, even with the Corpse Gathering Array, it is impossible to absorb all the Corpse Qi quickly."
According to the plan, Tian Lin should now leave.
But Tian Lin observed earlier that the main source of danger during the night came from those soldiers.
But today, the old Village Chief must have taken Zhou Ting and the others to the pond, so those soldiers must be battling the new Drought.
So for now, the night seems less dangerous than before.
More importantly, he had already dismantled the door panels, sealing the mouth of the well.
Logically, with the door panels on the well mouth, it is as if the underground Land of Corpse Nourishment has a door. The soldier spirits can only enter with the consent of the door gods.
Thinking so, Tian Lin wasn't entirely sure his assumption was correct.
But to root out all the dried corpses, both day and night time must be used.
Necessary risks are not only for others but also for one's own survival.
Tian Lin hesitated no longer, decisively uncovering the second black coffin.
Inside the black coffin, a dried corpse clad in the robes of Wenda Sect emerges.
"So the so-called official identity can be used to 'revive' the village's evil spirits. And those without official title are laid below the Corpse Well for Corpse Nourishment after death?"
The corpse years inside the coffin aren't short, appearing just newly reanimated.
The attire at the waist also has a Wenda Sect Outer Disciple token. And indeed, without even needing to see the identity token, Tian Lin recognized her identity.
