Chapter 285: I Want to Blow Up the Bank
THUD— Another punch. This time, Green Vest was knocked out cold, his body convulsing. After three heavy punches, even if he did wake up, he'd likely be little more than a vegetable.
Wiping the fresh blood from his hands, Xia Liang looked at Pu Chang.
"You! Don't do anything reckless! We live in a society governed by law!"
Xia Liang remained indifferent, continuing to wipe his fingers clean.
"My father is a director at Great Star Company! Our family has tons of money! How about one Yuan? If you just walk out of here, I'll give you one Yuan! No, five Yuan!"
Pu Chang, who was used to getting his way through sheer arrogance, never imagined he would one day run into a brick wall—especially not in Dragon Country, a place he'd never even deigned to properly look at.
Xia Liang looked to the side.
"Can I kill him?"
Xiao Qianxi shook her head.
"Don't ask me. This is your business."
Practically pissing his pants, Pu Chang was scared out of his wits. He thought Xia Liang's revenge would, at most, involve crippling him, but to his horror, the man was talking about taking his life.
"Aren't you a public servant? I mean, if you don't agree with this, you can just leave now. Pretend you never saw a thing."
Xiao Qianxi didn't answer. Instead, she looked up at the luxurious chandelier, as if trying to find a hidden pattern in its design.
He's ruthless! 'You try to cripple me, so I'll take your life.' He seeks revenge in an even more brutal fashion. This personality is a perfect fit for the Luan Long Group. It seems I've really found a diamond in the rough.
"Don't! Don't kill me! I'll give you ten Yuan! A hundred Yuan!"
Seeing Xia Liang approaching, Pu Chang dropped to his knees and begged for mercy, shedding all his former arrogance.
Everyone acts according to their own principles. Xia Liang, for example, followed a simple rule: if someone provoked him, he had to put them in their place in the most gratifying way possible. And if someone tried to harm him? It was even simpler: just take their life.
I just wanted to be a peaceful Didi driver, but getting mixed up with you definitely leads to bloodshed.
Xia Liang patted the kneeling Pu Chang on the shoulder.
"Don't be nervous. I'm not going to kill you right now."
"R-Really? You promise?" Pu Chang was so emotional that snot bubbles practically popped from his nose.
"Of course," Xia Liang said with a grin. "I'll cripple you first, *then* I'll kill you. That's more in line with my style."
"Uh..."
Pu Chang bit his tongue out of sheer terror, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. Rendered speechless, he could no longer beg for mercy.
Realizing the madman before him was serious, Pu Chang bolted, running for the exit as fast as he could. *Escape! If he could just get out of here, he might have a slim chance of survival!*
THUD—
He fell flat on the ground.
Overwhelmed by intense dizziness and pain, Pu Chang's consciousness began to fade. Xiao Qianxi slowly withdrew her long, slender leg and resumed her study of the chandelier above, as if she had done nothing at all.
"Hurry up," she said. "If you take much longer, the repair shop will close. How am I supposed to pay you then?"
Xia Liang cracked a smile, realizing for the first time that this aloof Big Wave had her cute side.
...
Settling into his familiar driver's seat, Xia Liang felt refreshed and invigorated. Behind him, the villa was engulfed in flames, with all thirty-nine people still inside.
"You're ruthless," she remarked.
"If you don't pull out a weed by its roots, it'll just grow back in the spring. I always hated how in movies the good guys talk and talk, giving the bad guys a chance to make a comeback. How stupid is that? They should just finish them off and be done with it." Xia Liang chuckled.
"Aren't you afraid of revenge from Great Star Company? It's not an ordinary company. Its waters run deep and murky."
"Besides the fact that I covered my tracks, even if they do come for revenge, I'll kill them as they come. One by one, or two by two. It's nothing to worry about."
"Then aren't you worried I'll report you?"
"From the moment I learned Pu Chang wanted to cripple me, I decided to eliminate the problem at its root. If you want to blame someone, blame me for foolishly dragging you into this. If I get reported, so what? I'll just run. The world is a big place; I'm sure I can find somewhere to hide."
A smile touched Xiao Qianxi's lips. "You're just banking on the fact that I'm determined to recruit you into Luan Long, aren't you? Once you join, you have nothing to fear. It's no big deal to kill someone who attempts to harm a member of Luan Long."
Xia Liang shook his head.
"Too bad, I have no plans to join for the time being. Tonight was just me acting on impulse."
For a fleeting moment, Xia Liang considered silencing Xiao Qianxi for good. But his rational mind told him that as a member of the mysterious Luan Long Group, she undoubtedly had hidden tracking and communication devices on her. Acting rashly could have serious consequences. Besides, the fact that she had tripped Pu Chang moments ago already said it all.
The two found a spot by the road to stop and eat. By the time they finished, the repair shop was already closed.
Xiao Qianxi transferred the money directly to Xia Liang.
No reason to refuse money that comes knocking. Xia Liang accepted it.
After they parted ways, Xia Liang returned home.
The gentle sunlight of the next morning gradually woke Xia Liang.
He turned on his phone and saw the top headline: *South Bang Country's popular star Pu Chang and his thirty-eight assistants all died in an accident last night. The preliminary investigation suggests a gas leak.*
A gas leak? Looks like Xiao Qianxi took care of it. Even if he was burned to a crisp, they'd still be able to tell Pu Chang's limbs had been crippled. Logically, this should have been reported as a murder.
After a yawn, Xia Liang prepared for the new day, not giving the events of the last two days a second thought. After dropping off an elderly couple on Nankai Road, he sat down at a breakfast stall to drink some soy milk.
"Buddy, could you spare a cigarette?" a somewhat uneasy voice asked from nearby.
Xia Liang turned to see a man in his thirties wearing a suit. The man wore glasses and was dragging a large leather suitcase. Though it was already autumn, he was sweating profusely. Xia Liang wondered if the man was simply in poor health.
"No problem. Got a light?"
"Sorry, no lighter."
