I Became the Mother of His Child

Chapter 350: Fond of These Two Items

"Um, Cheng Guang would be very angry," he nodded, adding credibility to his words.

"Oh! Then let him be angry!" Song Yuanhuan nodded to show he understood, speaking lightly but not promising that he would stop bullying Xu Xiuxiu. Just kidding, stop bullying? No chance to bargain when it came to 'bullying' his wife as a man and as a father.

"..." Song Chengguang's face instantly filled with black lines upon seeing Song Yuanhuan's clueless demeanor; he was truly baffled by Song Yuanhuan's unconventional approach.

Xu Xiuxiu shook her head in resignation as she watched the father and son duo acting foolish, using her as a springboard for their banter, tossing casual words back and forth.

On the weekend, Song Yuanhuan spent time at home with his wife and child, and then rushed back to the military academy early the next morning after preparing breakfast. When Xu Xiuxiu woke up, it was already eight or nine in the morning, and Song Chengguang and the boy and girl twins were already awake. Having likely been instructed by Song Yuanhuan not to disturb Xu Xiuxiu, they had their breakfast fed by Song Yuanhuan and were quietly playing in the living room after eating their fill.

"Where's daddy?" Xu Xiuxiu asked Song Chengguang when she saw the three kids in the living room.

"Daddy went to school," replied Song Chengguang with a twisted expression on his chubby cheeks, as if thinking it darkly comical for his dad to still be in school at such an age, and the notion that he'd have to endure school for just as long was a frightening thought!

"Oh!" Xu Xiuxiu found her son's words oddly amusing, but still bleary from just waking up, she didn't dwell on it and freshened up in the bathroom, which helped her wake up considerably.

Song Yuanhuan ended up staying at the military school for five days, so Xu Xiuxiu, having nothing else to do, planned to take the kids out to pass the time. She also intended to buy some Imperial City specialties for Father Song and Mrs. Song back home and to send some warm clothes to Song Yuan Yao and Song Yuanming, the school-going siblings, and of course, she hadn't forgotten to shop for Xu Qingqing and the new baby.

Previously for Xu Qingqing's child's one-month celebration, Xu Xiuxiu had bought many gifts, but since she hadn't gone back, she felt slightly regretful and wanted to make up for it with the presents.

Compared to City Z, the malls in Imperial City were noticeably livelier, and though the variety of luxury brands wasn't as extensive as in future years, there were still plenty of well-known global labels. Xu Xiuxiu didn't specifically browse luxury brands, but still paid close attention to her image while at the mall, which might have been why she avoided encountering the storied snobbish salespeople.

"Mommy, Cheng Guang wants to buy new shoes, the old ones are too small," Song Chengguang pouted as he pointed at his shoes, telling Xu Xiuxiu. The little guy was growing every day, and his clothes were quickly becoming outdated; Xu Xiuxiu wasn't one to buy clothes a size larger to last an extra year or two, so she frequently replaced Song Chengguang and the twins' clothing each season.

Once Song Chengguang knew Xu Xiuxiu was taking them shopping, he had his own opinions about what he wanted. He kept reminding her about the shoes he wanted to buy, fearful that she would forget amidst buying clothes for everyone else: Grandpa and Grandma, little uncle and aunt, Grandpa on her side, second aunt, the very little brother, dad, brother, sister, and himself—everyone's clothes were accounted for except for his, and he was worried he would be forgotten if he didn't speak up!

"So shall we go buy Cheng Guang's clothes and shoes now?" Xu Xiuxiu asked. Her hands were nearly breaking from carrying both large and small bags, many of which were even hanging on the twins' stroller. Truthfully, she really didn't want to continue shopping, but not wanting to deal with the mall again, she steeled herself to keep shopping. Once they finished getting Song Chengguang's clothes, they could head home.

"Okay! Mom, Chengguang will carry it for you." As soon as Song Chengguang heard Xu Xiuxiu say they were going to buy him shoes now, he was over the moon and even offered a hand to help carry her stuff, the little guy using all his strength to lift a bag bigger than himself.

"Chengguang, do you think this piece of clothing looks good?" Xu Xiuxiu asked Song Chengguang, holding up a jacket that was of good quality and very warm.

"It's not nice." Song Chengguang glanced at it and expressed his disdain right away.

"How about this one?" Xu Xiuxiu actually thought that even though children's clothing nowadays didn't come in as many styles as in the future, a tiny piece still looked very cute and adorable! But she didn't understand what Song Chengguang's tastes were; he didn't like anything she picked for him, his choosiness baffling her.

"What exactly do you like?" Xu Xiuxiu glared with frustration.

"Mom, Chengguang wants to pick himself." Song Chengguang looked up and replied to Xu Xiuxiu, then the little guy started to choose clothes seriously and even vainly held the clothes up to the mirror to check himself out.

Xu Xiuxiu pushed the stroller, occasionally speaking to the boy and girl twins in their baby language, and then watched Song Chengguang excitedly picking out his clothes, feeling a sense of wonder that this child really changed every day, with a different mood every day. Why couldn't Song Chengguang stick to one thing? His personality changed so quickly that as his mother she was just getting used to his latest phase, when he would suddenly become exceptionally choosy.

"Mom, does this look good?" After a long selection, Song Chengguang picked out a few green jackets, the bright green that made Xu Xiuxiu's head ache just looking at it. Come on, son! I know you like your dad, but can we not choose clothes that match your dad's uniform? Especially this bright green which was completely different from a military uniform. If you wear this, won't you look like a green caterpillar?

"It looks good." But looking at her son's chosen clothes, Xu Xiuxiu had more to say but still chose to hold it in.

"Then okay, Mom, Chengguang wants this one and this one." Song Chengguang happily wobbled the two green jackets.

"Fine." Xu Xiuxiu nodded, then went to pay for the two green clothes picked by Song Chengguang. However, before paying, she still couldn't help but ask again, "Chengguang, are you sure you want these two?"

"Yes, just these two, Chengguang likes these two." Song Chengguang's eyes crinkled into slits with a smile, holding on to the two green jackets, refusing to let go.

"All right! Let's buy it." Xu Xiuxiu gritted her teeth and paid.

But even if he chose green for his clothes, Xu Xiuxiu could bear it, but son! For shoes, you also pick green; do you intend to be green from head to toe? Watching Song Chengguang's particularly unique aesthetic, Xu Xiuxiu felt like she was about to snap.
