I Became the Mother of His Child

Chapter 234: Visit the Suburbs

"Hmm?" Song Yuanhuan raised an eyebrow as he looked at Xu Xiuxiu.

"I want to personally check out that plot of land in the suburbs to see if it's worth developing. No matter how many ideas and plans I have, I first need to be sure that this wasteland is worth all my investment." Xu Xiuxiu said, her gaze soft as she looked at the Little Baby cradled in Song Yuanhuan's arms. "I plan on letting my daughter and son have moms who are both beautiful and wealthy, and their father successful, so I must be extra careful in my ventures; I can't afford to be sloppy with investments," Xu Xiuxiu said and then smiled foolishly, as if everything was already accomplished.

Beautiful and wealthy girls, successful guys? It's an easy phrase to understand, but coming from Xu Xiuxiu's mouth, Song Yuanhuan couldn't help feeling that it sounded perfectly normal. He looked at Xu Xiuxiu's pleased smirk and gradually joined in the laughter.

"Why don't I take the kids and accompany you? We can treat it as a trip to the suburbs." Song Yuanhuan was uneasy about Xu Xiuxiu going alone, hence the suggestion.

Just thinking about taking the kids for a suburban outing painted a particularly beautiful picture.

"Sure!" Xu Xiuxiu thought about the barren land in the suburbs, knowing there was a small lake there. If it didn't work out, they could just treat it as a lakeside outing, enjoying the beautiful, blooming days of spring with the kids—just thinking about it felt blissful.

Xu Xiuxiu agreed without hesitation. The family decided to set out immediately. However, Song Chengguang was at daycare, and Xu Xiuxiu worried that they wouldn't get back in time to pick him up if she and her husband took the boy and girl twins to the suburbs. So, before heading to the suburbs, they detoured to Song Chengguang's daycare, picked him up, and then the family of five set off toward the suburbs in a reserved tuk-tuk.

Although the weather was still a bit chilly, the sun was brilliantly bright today, and its warmth made everyone feel snug and comfortable.

Song Chengguang had been cocooned in Xu Xiuxiu's care for some days now, and getting out for a trip excited the little guy to no end. Upon just arriving at the barren land in the Z city suburbs, Song Chengguang was like a wild horse freed from its reins, rampaging and frolicking about. If the twins had been bigger, they would probably have been hopping and jumping right behind him, the mere thought of which was enough to give Xu Xiuxiu a pounding headache.

"Song Chengguang, be careful when you run," Xu Xiuxiu said nervously as she watched Song Chengguang joyfully hopping around.

"Got it." Song Chengguang obediently responded, yet he continued towards the lake and stared at the thumb-sized fish swimming around: "Little fish."

"You go and watch him, don't let him fall in." Watching Song Chengguang at the edge of the lake, curiously staring at the lake surface and then stealthily reaching his little hand into the cold water, Xu Xiuxiu felt her forehead twitching violently, fearing that this mischievous child might lose his balance and fall into the lake. She had no choice but to ask Song Yuanhuan to keep an eye on Song Chengguang, as getting his clothes wet in this cold weather could be very bad.

Indeed, just as Yuanhuan started to approach Song Chengguang, the latter was about to fall into the lake, his body visibly unstable. Yuanhuan, with quick reflexes, grabbed Song Chengguang's clothes and lifted him, brushing against the surface of the lake before securing him in his embrace.

Song Chengguang instinctively clung to Yuanhuan's clothes, then watched Xu Xiuxiu with a palpable sense of shock and confusion while being held. Clearly, Song Chengguang's mind was somewhat muddled, unaware of how he was about to fall into the lake and somehow suddenly ended up in the arms of his father. His little expression was both startled and confused.

Having watched the whole process of Yuanhuan rescuing Song Chengguang while pushing the twins in the stroller, Xu Xiuxiu had to admit that every father was indeed a guardian angel for his children. She chuckled, shaking her head. She wasn't worried about Song Chengguang's safety since Yuanhuan was watching over him, so she continued pushing the stroller, her gaze pensively sweeping over the vast barren land ahead.

At that moment, as she looked at the huge barren tract in the suburbs, she couldn't help but admit to herself that her ambition was perhaps too grand. She wanted to take on the land all by herself, which seemed utterly impossible.

As she thought, Xu Xiuxiu felt dejected and started convincing herself to give up. Given her current situation, it seemed more suitable for her to slowly earn money and step by step establish herself as a wealthy individual. For a huge project like the holiday villa, it would be best to let it go. However, the very thought of giving up brought a sense of disappointment and loss.

Xu Xiuxiu shook her head, clearing the complex thoughts, and continued pushing the stroller along the lakeside. Unexpectedly, she saw Ye Hua leading a team, apparently surveying the location and water quality. He was meticulously discussing something with someone holding a notebook, pointing here and there at the barren land.

Could it be that Ye Hua also had an interest in this land?

Xu Xiuxiu stopped pushing the stroller, observing the focused and earnest Ye Hua for a while. Meanwhile, an idea of collaboration arose in her mind. It might not be a bad idea to collaborate with Ye Hua to develop the holiday villa together, thereby sharing the risk and investment.

"Xu Xiuxiu." Unlike Xu Xiuxiu, who had noticed Ye Hua from the start, Ye Hua only saw her when he was walking towards the lakeside with his team. "What are you doing here?" Ye Hua couldn't help but express his surprise, abruptly stopping his conversation.

Although he had to admit, he was both surprised and astonished to suddenly see Xu Xiuxiu; deep down, he was also happy and thrilled. But in that moment, he subconsciously displayed a hint of wariness, a trait innate to businessmen.

"My husband took a break to bring our children and me here for a stroll," replied Xu Xiuxiu with a smile.

"I see," Ye Hua nodded in understanding. "I've brought people here to take a look; I'm thinking of buying this land." Ye Hua didn't know why, but after a moment of hesitation, he didn't refrain from openly sharing his intentions with Xu Xiuxiu. He didn't seem to think the information was any business secret. Subconsciously, he wasn't very guarded against Xu Xiuxiu, although at the first glimpse of her, a semblance of suspicion had flashed through his heart, which he immediately dismissed afterward.

If Xu Xiuxiu had been unmarried, perhaps he would have been more cautious. However, Xu Xiuxiu was a married woman, living a high life. Her husband was a military man, not low in rank or competence, raising two sons and a daughter. He couldn't imagine any ulterior motive Xu Xiuxiu might have for approaching him, so after an initial wariness, he dismissed his complicated thoughts.
