I Became the Mother of His Child

Chapter 231: Marry a Virtuous Wife

Zheng Guohui saw that neither of them seemed to take his words seriously and immediately became anxious to reinforce his presence.

"Alright already, we all know you want to pick a good woman to be your comrade in arms! I have to advise you to keep your eyes peeled and not pick someone who's not what they seem, causing trouble at home. You'll be miserable then," Fu Guanglei replied to Zheng Guohui irritably, then gave him a meaningful pat on the shoulder.

"Yeah, when marrying, one should marry a virtuous wife," Xu He Ping agreed nodding.

Yan Molin saw Xu He Ping speak like someone with experience and immediately stifled a laugh, sneakily rolling her eyes at him.

"Don't worry, don't worry, I promise to choose carefully," Zheng Guohui said, suddenly sounding very serious and downed his drink after hearing what Fu Guanglei and Xu He Ping said.

Song Yuanhuan and Fu Guanglei exchanged glances once more and then shook their heads helplessly, clearly accustomed to Zheng Guohui's somewhat erratic personality.

As for Xu He Ping, he just smiled but didn't continue the conversation.

The rest were nearly all familiar faces who knew exactly what Zhao Jian Country's situation was like, so it wasn't too much of a disturbance, and they didn't seem to take it too much to heart. But Song Chengguang was genuinely sad; the little guy nearly burst into heartbreaking sobs.

"Wow! Cheng Guang's Tom and Jerry are gone," right then and there, Song Chengguang suddenly struggled to climb out of Song Yuanhuan's arms and dived headfirst into Xu Xiuxiu's embrace, crying sadly.

"Cheng Guang, don't cry, okay? In a few days, Aunt Cui Shuo will help you buy a new set of little underwear, alright?" Xu Xiuxiu knew that Song Chengguang truly loved Tom and Jerry, because Aunt Cui Shuo was very thoughtful, sending a bunch of exquisite animated character clothes and gifts, along with several comic storybooks. Song Chengguang loved Tom and Jerry to bits, so every time he wore his Tom and Jerry underwear, he would wash it himself. Xu Xiuxiu was deeply moved by his solemn and careful demeanor.

After all, Song Chengguang was just an under-four-year-old toddler, and there was something incredibly touching about him seriously washing his underwear. Seeing him genuinely upset now, even though Xu Xiuxiu felt a bit embarrassed to bother Aunt Cui Shuo, she nonetheless promised Song Chengguang. The little guy's underwear had been sneakily taken away without the adults stopping it, so naturally, she felt obliged to fulfill his wish and soothe his emotions.

"Really?" Song Chengguang looked up at Xu Xiuxiu with tear-filled eyes for confirmation.

"Really," Xu Xiuxiu affirmed seriously.

"Then okay, pinky promise!" Song Chengguang sniffled, wiped the tears with his hand, and then extended his little finger to make a pinky promise.

Xu Xiuxiu smiled and made a pinky promise with Song Chengguang.

"Happy now?" Xu Xiuxiu asked, seeing Song Chengguang's tears turn to smiles and then playfully ruffled the little guy's nose.

"Mmhmm," Song Chengguang nodded and then, twisting his body, he dashed toward Aunt Lai who was carefully descending the stairs with Little Moon in her arms. "Grandma," Song Chengguang looked up with a pleading little face.

"Cheng Guang is already a big brother and still throwing tantrums and crying. Aren't you afraid your little brother and sister will laugh at you?" Aunt Lai teased Song Chengguang while holding Little Moon.

"Granny, little brother and sister are very good; they won't laugh at Cheng Guang..." Song Chengguang sulked with a pout, then suddenly remembered the point of the dispute with Shi Tao and turned his head to sadly stare at Song Yuanhuan, his eyes full of blame.

Hmph! Not only did he not get the rattle back, but he also lost a pair of Tom and Jerry underwear. Song Chengguang felt more and more like he had been taken advantage of.

Ah! Song Yuanhuan caught his son's accusing gaze and touched his nose, somewhat helplessly.

"It's okay; tomorrow, Mommy will take you to buy a prettier rattle for your sister," Xu Xiuxiu immediately chimed in to alleviate Song Yuanhuan's embarrassment.

"Okay." Song Chengguang then nodded, satisfied.

In just this short span, the family's recent upset caused by Guo Cuiping and Shi Tao had been significantly dissolved by Song Chengguang's playful attitude. Xu Xiuxiu looked at Aunt Lai holding Little Moon, and her thoughts suddenly turned to the baby girl in the nursery, "Auntie, is Little Baby awake yet?"

"She's awake, laying there so well-behaved in her little swing. You should come and hold her, let the boy and girl twins play together." Aunt Lai said with a smile. She had wanted to hold both, but being older, she didn't dare to risk it. Seeing Little Baby lying in the swing so quietly, she had confidently picked up Little Moon and left the nursery.

"Alright, I'll go now." Xu Xiuxiu turned to go upstairs to pick up Little Baby.

"I'll go." Father-of-the-daughter Song Yuanhuan immediately responded, then dashed upstairs quickly. In no time, he was cradling Little Baby downstairs properly, and everyone gathered around the twins, joking and playing.

...

After the housewarming celebration and the twins' full month banquet, Song Yuanhuan resumed his busy training routine. Xu Xiuxiu threw herself wholeheartedly into her busy life. As a mother, Xu Xiuxiu's life was practically exploding with busyness. But, as someone who knew about the development trajectory and course of the next 20 to 30 years, if she didn't achieve something in this burgeoning era, she felt it would be unfair to her three children, born in the 80s, to not have a head start. She believed they must carry the labels of "beautiful and wealthy" or "handsome and rich" regardless of the mixed perceptions of those terms.

Therefore, the first thing Xu Xiuxiu did after the twins' full month banquet was to calculate the total turnover and net profit of Sichuan Pavilion's flagship and branch stores.

The twins were well-behaved. Xu Xiuxiu went to the store to buy a side-by-side baby stroller that was even more expensive than the one for Cheng Guang. But for convenience's sake, she bit the bullet and made the purchase, then every day she would put the twins in the stroller and push them out for walks.

Of course, to focus on her career, Xu Xiuxiu once again made the tough decision to send Song Chengguang off to daycare. Compared to his younger, less adaptable self, Song Chengguang seemed to have become much more well-behaved. He had even made a few friends in daycare, thriving to the point that could be described as "like a fish in water." This put Xu Xiuxiu's mind at ease.

After calculating all her available funds, Xu Xiuxiu estimated how much she could accomplish with this money. The vegetarian restaurant she planned to open even before she was pregnant with the twins would not be just any vegetarian restaurant.

A high-end hot spring holiday villa! A vegetarian hot spring health club with everything one could wish for, an excellent retreat for leisure and health. The location of this holiday villa was a large undeveloped piece of land next to the suburbs of City Z.

The location for the holiday villa was set, but Xu Xiuxiu had to once again face a huge problem that lay before her.
