Chapter 220: Come Clean
"But my little brother is so cute! Why would you say he isn't?" Song Chengguang couldn't quite grasp what his little aunt had just said. Why would she speak ironically? Clearly, his little brother was really cute!
"Because..." Xu Jingjing tried to explain but then realized she didn't know how to make it clear to Song Chengguang, who was looking innocently at her. Xu Jingjing was left speechless with his question, and just at that moment, Xu Xiuxiu and Song Yuanhuan came back, each holding the Little Baby. Xu Jingjing immediately looked relieved and turned to Xu Xiuxiu, "Third sister, where have you been? You had your brother-in-law worried sick. Didn't you say you were going to the bathroom to feed the child?" Xu Jingjing frowned and expressed concern.
Just before, her brother-in-law had come back after preparing the formula and, not seeing her, asked about her whereabouts, and then went off hurriedly to search for her. But then he rushed back in an urgently frightened manner to ask if she was in the bathroom.
"The restroom smelled bad, so I took the Little Baby to the sleeping quarters instead, and just happened to run into Cheng Guang's godfather." Xu Xiuxiu explained, breathing a sigh of relief as she sat down with the Little Baby. Song Yuanhuan, on the other hand, sat down beside her with a very gloomy face.
"Godfather?" Song Chengguang said with his eyes wide open as he squeezed a large steamed bun, an expression of surprise on his face. "Is it Godfather Ye Hua? I want to go see him!" Song Chengguang excitedly planned to slide off the train seat, his enthusiasm couldn't have been more evident.
"Don't go." Song Yuanhuan, already holding some resentment inside, felt that there was something not quite right about this other man, and when he saw his eldest son get excited about seeing his godfather, he felt deeply hurt. Thus, he growled firmly at Song Chengguang.
This ingrate of a son, indeed, sons are born to collect debts, Song Yuanhuan felt he had once again obtained ample confirmation of this belief. If it had been his daughter, none of this would have happened. Humph, "godfather", his daughter would only have one father, and that would be him, Song Yuanhuan. As for the son, if he recognized someone else, so be it; he could persuade himself to endure. But if it were his daughter, he would blow the other man away with a gun.
"Why?" Song Chengguang, startled by Song Yuanhuan's stern tone, instinctively asked back, and then his eyes welled up with tears. He had not seen his godfather for so long, and he missed him!
"Why are you yelling at him?" Xu Xiuxiu was aware that Song Chengguang and Ye Hua shared a good relationship and had grown accustomed to it; hence, to her, Song Chengguang's reaction wasn't unexpected at all. But Song Yuanhuan's rigid yelling at Song Chengguang made Xu Xiuxiu somewhat helpless. This man really was a stern tyrant! He didn't even fear Song Chengguang forming an opinion against him, honestly!
Thinking this, Xu Xiuxiu nudged Song Yuanhuan's arm with her elbow, reminding him to soften his expression a bit. "Chengguang, can you not go for now? The train is too chaotic, and it's not safe for you to run around since you're still young. Once we get to Z City, mom will have time, and then we can go see your godfather, okay?" she coaxed Song Chengguang gently and tried to reason with him.
After a while, Song Chengguang pondered Xu Xiuxiu's words, then reluctantly nodded with a pout. "Okay," he agreed and then ferociously took another bite of the large meat bun he held in his hands.
Seeing that she had calmed down Song Chengguang, Xu Xiuxiu sighed with relief, but then she saw Song Yuanhuan sitting beside her with a dark face. She wanted to ask a few questions, but after thinking it over, she pressed her concerns down.
The train slowly moved forward, and after the boy and girl twins were fed and full, the adults also started munching on meat buns. Xu Xiuxiu had the buns Mrs. Song had prepared that morning and put in a thermal box, which sadly didn't keep them warm for long, and they were now thoroughly cold. Xu Xiuxiu took a few sips of her drink and lost her appetite, so she put it away and then looked pitifully at the big meat bun in Song Yuanhuan's hand.
Song Yuanhuan seemed oblivious, as if he didn't notice Xu Xiuxiu's gaze, quickly finishing his big meat bun in a few bites. Then, he urged Xu Jingjing and Song Chengguang to eat faster, clearly showing no intention of sharing the taste of the big meat bun with Xu Xiuxiu.
How excessive, not even a glance he's willing to spare for me! Xu Xiuxiu thought indignantly, then turned her head to look out of the window.
With the experience of feeding the twins milk at noon, Song Yuanhuan started preparing the formula around two in the afternoon, timing it just right, so when the twins woke up, the milk had cooled to a suitable temperature. The twins were pretty well-behaved after eating, so the afternoon went by quickly, and soon the train whistled into Z city's train station.
The flow of people getting on and off at Z city's train station wasn't small, but Xu Xiuxiu and the others waited and stayed a bit behind the crowd. However, both Xu Xiuxiu and Xu Jingjing found it somewhat challenging carrying a child each, appearing quite cautious so as not to hurt them. Song Chengguang, being young, could only tug at the hem of Xu Xiuxiu's sleeve and follow her out. Song Yuanhuan took charge of carrying the big and small bags, trailing behind them for protection.
Their rented house in the city wasn't far from Z city's train station, and after Song Yuanhuan hailed a rickshaw, they swiftly arrived at their new home.
Because of the long day spent on the train, they had a simple meal of noodles for dinner and headed to bed early after washing up.
Xu Xiuxiu still couldn't manage to properly take a bath, but she coquettishly asked Song Yuanhuan to fetch her a basin of hot water to wipe down her body.
"Agree to something for me?" Song Yuanhuan, refreshed after washing up, crossed his arms and stared at Xu Xiuxiu, with an air of settling scores in autumn.
"What?" Xu Xiuxiu asked, puzzled, looking at Song Yuanhuan.
"What's the deal with Ye Hua?" Song Yuanhuan inquired with a chill in his voice, "Come on, give me a proper confession." He unceremoniously stepped closer to Xu Xiuxiu, wrapped his arms around her slender waist, picked her up into his arms, and comfortably sat down in a chair.
"Confess what? It's just that Ye Hua has been quite nice to Cheng Guang, and Cheng Guang likes him too. Plus, on Cheng Guang's birthday, he gave him a pretty valuable gift and said he wanted to be Cheng Guang's godfather. He's a regular at Sichuan Pavilion, and I've had a few dealings with him; he's a decent person. Seeing Cheng Guang seemed happy, I didn't stop him from taking Cheng Guang as his godson," Xu Xiuxiu said, her hands casually resting on Song Yuanhuan's neck. She knew Song Yuanhuan might have reservations about her decision to accept a godfather for Cheng Guang. She could understand that it would upset him—after all, his son suddenly got an extra father, and he knew nothing about it.
However, he wasn't there at the time, and by the time he returned, she had been overwhelmed with events and completely forgot about it. Since Song Yuanhuan had never met Ye Hua, she didn't go out of her way to mention him. She didn't think it was a big deal!
