I Became the Mother of His Child

Chapter 165: Cheng Guang Makes a Phone Call

"Yes, Auntie, I live in the middle of the alley at Mrs. Niu's house. You can come by anytime you're free," Xu Xiuxiu politely said as she bent down and picked up the stunned little Chen Guang.

"Then you better hurry home! I'll come chat with you another day when I'm free," Zhao Lifang smiled and nodded in agreement.

"Alright, you're always welcome," Xu Xiuxiu managed a forced smile and carefully cradled Song Chengguang as she turned and quickly rushed toward her home.

Zhao Lifang watched Xu Xiuxiu protectively leading her son away, glanced at the quiet wooden door of the pig-killing Liu family, and then sighed lightly. She always felt that today's events were not so simple; that young wife didn't seem to be an ordinary figure, perhaps the Liu family had offended someone! Oh well, every household has its own fate, she thought as Zhao Lifang sighed softly and turned to go back inside her house.

Xu Xiuxiu hurried home, clutching Song Chengguang all the way. The little guy's lips were pursed, and his eyes were shiny, clearly wanting to continue crying, but for some reason, he forcefully held back and didn't make a sound.

"Chengguang isn't scared! There's nothing wrong now," Xu Xiuxiu cooed, occasionally kissing the little one as a soothing gesture.

"Mommy, Chengguang will protect Mommy," Song Chengguang, with his arms around Xu Xiuxiu's neck and being held face to face, bumped his little head sadly against Xu Xiuxiu's shoulder, his murmured words quite persistent.

"Chengguang is already very impressive, being good is protecting Mommy," Xu Xiuxiu wasn't sure if it was Song Yuanhuan who had instilled the idea of protecting his mom into the little guy, seeing him upset yet stubborn but still not forgetting his 'duty', worried him being scared, as she had been quite fierce before, comparable to a shrew. She was concerned if it might have caused him any psychological trauma.

Finally, Xu Xiuxiu asked quickly as they reached home, "Chengguang, sit for a while, okay? Mommy will heat some water for your bath." Xu Xiuxiu reached out to ruffle the little guy's slightly longer hair.

She remembered the time she had sent the little one to daycare, and how he had been picky with food, she later didn't dare send him back after Xu Jingjing left. Originally, she had planned to continue sending Chengguang to daycare, but she was pregnant again, and it seemed there wasn't much she could do, so she even called the daycare to express her decision not to send Song Chengguang anymore. After all, the little guy was still young, and keeping him with her for some more days wouldn't hurt.

"Okay! Chengguang wants to take a bath," Song Chengguang nodded very obediently.

Seeing that the little guy seemed to have stabilized a lot emotionally, Xu Xiuxiu finally breathed a sigh of relief and walked into the kitchen, while Song Chengguang sitting on the chair cautiously climbed down after Xu Xiuxiu entered the kitchen and then dashed out the door like a rocket.

"Grandma, Grandma," Song Chengguang ran out of the house and directly went to knock on the neighboring Mrs. Niu's door. Mrs. Niu, who was elderly and was sitting under the grape tree in the courtyard to cool off due to the hot weather, immediately came to open the door upon hearing the knock.

"Oh! Little Chen Guang! It's you! Where's your Mom?" Mrs. Niu was extremely surprised to see Song Chengguang; his knocking nearly scared her jaw off, such a small child he was!

"Grandma, Chen Guang wants to call Daddy." Song Chengguang twisted his little hands while looking at Mrs. Niu, his tender cheeks stained with tear marks, his eyes pure and perplexed. He wanted to call his dad but didn't know how.

"Make a phone call?" Mrs. Niu continued to look astonished at the little fellow, stumbling for a while before asking, "Does Chen Guang know the phone number?" It was just an instinctive question from her.

"Phone number?" Song Chengguang puzzled over it with furrowed brows for a while, "023987654. Daddy told me to remember it." After blurting out a string of numbers, a smile spread across his little face.

"Chen Guang still remembers the phone number! That's amazing! Alright, Grandma will take you to the little store in front to make the call." Mrs. Niu fondly looked at Song Chengguang, not thinking too deeply due to her age, and seeing how cute and irresistibly childish the little guy was, she naturally couldn't refuse.

"Thank you, Grandma." Song Chengguang immediately showed his little white teeth in thanks when Mrs. Niu said she would take him to make the call.

"You're welcome, you're welcome." Mrs. Niu saw the little guy gratefully thanking her and waved her hand generously. The little store at the corner of the alley was quite close to their place, and it took less than two minutes for the young and the old to get there, "Old Man Bai, bring out the phone, I need to make a call." Mrs. Niu and the people at the store were very familiar, and they all knew that she lived alone in a nearby yard and occasionally came to the store to call her children and in-laws.

"Calling your son and daughter-in-law again? Didn't you just call yesterday? Why are you calling so frequently today!" the store owner, nicknamed Old Man Bai by Mrs. Niu, asked with a chuckle, then moved the phone from inside the store to the outside, "Here you go! Make the call yourself!"

"It's not for my son and daughter-in-law this time! This child wants to make the call!" Mrs. Niu replied to Old Man Bai's question, proudly and surprisingly showing Song Chengguang and then smilingly looking down at him, "Chen Guang, what's the phone number? Grandma will dial it for you!"

"023987654." The little guy looked up and repeated the phone number to Mrs. Niu!

As Mrs. Niu listened to the little guy reciting the number, her hand dialed the phone, and once the number was entered, she then bent down, lifted Song Chengguang, and put the phone to his ear.

"Beep beep beep..." the phone was still in the process of connecting.

"Daddy?" Song Chengguang called out with furrowed brows, only to realize there was no response from his dad on the phone. Didn't dad say he would talk to him with this thing?

"Grandma, why can't I hear Daddy's voice?" Song Chengguang stared confusedly at Mrs. Niu, holding the phone. As he asked, the other end of the phone was already picked up, and Song Yuanhuan heard his son's voice, causing him to drop the pen he was holding.

"Cheng Guang?" His voice filled with disbelief, he called out his son's name through the phone.

"Daddy!" Hearing Song Yuanhuan's voice, Song Chengguang cried out joyfully, but then the next moment he suddenly began to wail, "Wuwu… Daddy, Mommy got splashed by someone, wawa… Cheng Guang got wet too, Cheng Guang didn't protect Mommy… Wah, you hurry bring the uncles to beat up the mean auntie." Song Chengguang's eyes had lit up at first, but then he plunged into emotional distress, spilling his grievances to Song Yuanhuan over the phone.
