Chapter 38
Banquet
When they got to the Lian Villa, they could hear gales of laughter coming from inside.
The grass in the large courtyard was well trimmed. Its neat and elegant look suited Shen Yin’s taste.
The butler, who had been waiting at the door, hurriedly opened the door when he saw Lian Jing return. “Old Master is waiting for you.”
He looked at Shen Yin and said kindly, “This must be Miss Shen. Our President Lian has told us that you’re an important guest. If you need anything, feel free to look for me.”
“You’re too kind.” Shen Yin glanced at Lian Jing in surprise. This person looked arrogant, but he could actually be so meticulous?
The old man was sitting on the sofa and laughing as he listened to Shang Sheng. When he saw Shen Yin and Lian Jing enter together, he quickly called them over. “Little Yin is here too. Good girl, come sit with Grandpa.”
Shang Sheng looked at Lian Jing in surprise. “Who is she?”
“She saved Grandpa.” Lian;e told Shang Sheng about what had happened at the airport. Shang Sheng immediately stood up and bowed gratefully. “Thank you for saving Grandpa.”
“It was my duty.” Shen Yin nodded and asked with concern, “Grandpa, do you still feel any discomfort after being discharged from the hospital?”
“No, everything is fine.” The old man looked mischievous and boyish as he took a bottle of wine from the box on the coffee table. “Let’s have a few drinks today.”
“Grandpa, don’t drink so much,” Shen Yin said with a frown of disapproval.
The old man ignored her and waved his hand. “I know my body. It’s fine to drink a little. Don’t you want to drink with me?”
“No.” Shen Yin shook her head, tears welling in her eyes.
Ever since her grandfather’s death, she had not experienced the kind of intimacy between a grandparent and their grandchild.
The old man looked at Lian Jing in panic. “Why is this child crying for no reason?”
Lian Jing hurriedly pulled out some tissue and handed them to her. He held her shoulder and asked, “Are you feeling unwell?”
“No.” She fought back tears, her face flushed. “I’m just so happy.”
“Good girl.” Old Master patted Shen Yin’s hand. “Grandpa can tell that you’re a sensible and filial child. Don’t worry, you can treat me as your own grandfather in the future. I’ll also tell others that you, Shen Yin, are my granddaughter.”
Lian Jing looked at the old man disapprovingly. The old man saw his gaze and immediately added, “If Lian Jing is lucky enough, I’ll be even happier if you become my granddaughter-in-law.”
Shang Sheng’s mouth was so wide open that someone could stuff an egg into it. What did he say? Grandpa wanted to marry his own grandson to his benefactor in order to repay her?
Lian’e and her husband, Fu Xiao, looked at each other and saw the disapproval in each other’s eyes.
The nanny wiped her wet hands on her apron. “Master, President Lian, Miss Lian, Young Master, the food is ready. Please move to the dining room for dinner.”
The old man kept holding Shen Yin’s hand and made her sit beside him, afraid that she would feel neglected.
Lian Jing was happy when he saw that. His grandfather did not care that she had a son. That was a surprise.
Lian’e was upset. That had been her position in the past, but now, it was occupied by this foreign woman.
The old man personally filled the wine glass in front of Shen Yin. Afraid that she would over-think it, he patiently explained, “This wine won’t get you drunk. It’s very suitable for girls. Little Jing specially found it for you. Try it.”
Shen Yin looked at Lian Jing, who was sitting opposite her, and picked up her glass to take a sip. The fruity fragrance instantly spread through her mouth. The taste of alcohol was extremely faint. It tasted like fruit juice with a hint of alcohol. Even someone with poor alcohol tolerance would not get drunk.
Satisfied, she set down her glass. Her eyes were half-closed in comfort, like a cat that had just been given a treat.
“Do you like it?” the Old Master asked nervously.
“I like it.” Shen Yin also poured a glass for Old Master. Then she looked at Lian Jing and smiled sincerely. “Thank you.”
Lian Jing was in a daze for a moment. His gaze never left her face. When he suddenly saw her smiling at him like that, his heart pounded like a drum.
Warmth flowed through his chest, and the heart that had been frozen for so long was completely thawed by her smile.
He continued to stare back at her, not missing the slightest change of expression on her face. He watched her smile and blush until she lowered her head so that he could no longer see her expression. Then he looked away and smiled faintly. “I like it too.”
