Chapter 39: An Erasing Force
Valerie hovered in the sky, staring at the great kraken in the water. A bubble of water formed in front of its enormous eye, and the dragoness grinned. "What will you do now? Do you have something special planned for me?"
Her words must have registered in the overgrown squid. He launched his magic in the next second.
The bubble transformed into a jet of water, rippling through the sky, and flying towards the dragoness at a speed much quicker than what most creatures were capable of.
She smiled and pushed her palm forwards. A bright red flame slithered over the water jet, erasing its entire existence. "I could have erased you too, but if I did that, my dearest kitten wouldn't get to taste more kraken."
Valerie launched herself forwards with a singular flap of her wings. She cut the air in between them in less than a second. She watched the creature react by closing its eyelid. "Aren't you just a treat?"
The dragoness slammed her fist against the kraken's closed eye, and its body rippled. It flew through the water at a speed even faster than its water jet traveled. The large beast attempted to slow down its descent by spinning its tendrils like a whirlpool.
It managed to slow itself down enough to not die immediately on impact. Its body slammed against a deeply sunken ship. The vessel that was covered in green mold and rotten planks folded from the body of the large monster. It splintered into millions of little pieces.
Fish swam away from the carnage as quick as they could. Others were not so lucky. The blast had thoroughly shaken the ocean floor. Bits of sand flew into the water, blown up by the tentacles of the kraken.
Valerie's eyes ignited into flames, sparked by her battle instinct. "You actually managed to survive that? I must give you props. Though, this one will be your last."
Fire smoldered in her fist and became a large flaming spear. The length of the thing was even taller than any buildings in their surroundings, and the fire burned hot. White heat spread into her surroundings, the crab people likely thankful that she was so high in the air.
The dragoness smiled. "Your death will be fast and painless."
She flapped her wings again, pushing through the surface of the water and diving thousands of feet in an instant. She surrounded nearby flora and fauna with their own fire shields in order to prevent collateral damage.
The wounded kraken blinked its eye open again, but it was too late. He'd met his match.
Valerie's inferno spear pierced through his body, striking at the monster's core. The white hot flames incinerated the thing with a loud pop. And a ripple spread against the surface of the water, creating an enormous tsunami.
The dragoness clapped her hands once, and just like that the water rising into the sky was completely erased by the Flames of Oblivion. That little bit of ocean simply ceased to exist.
She stared down at the kraken, lifting it by a tendril, and folding it into her own erased plain of existence.
Valerie grinned. "You will be a great treat for my kitten. As for the one who led you here…"
The dragoness had a pretty good idea about who was responsible. Her singular red eye in the sky had told her that much, and nothing could escape the sight of a ravenous primordial dragon.
Valerie threw a bright red spear into the sky like a bolt of lightning. It arched perfectly, striking its target with precision. In the distance, a singular Granchin was erased and no one else.
The dragoness floated out of the water, her dress still perfectly dry. She flapped her wings, arriving back at her kitten and a wide-mouthed vampire.
"You are a fucking monster!" The vampiress yelled, her face growing pale. "What the hell was I thinking!?"
Bery had a completely different reaction. The kitten strolled up to Valerie and placed a kiss on the dragon's cheek. "Welcome back, darling."
Valerie felt her heart pounding hard in her chest. To fight a battle and have a cute kitten rush to her afterwards was like a dream come true. She lifted the little princess into her arms and planted a kiss on Bery's forehead.
"Hey! Don't just ignore me!"
Valerie turned her attention towards the fretting vampire with a frown. "Now you understand the gravity of what you tried to do."
The vampire frowned. "This is more than simple gravity! Hey, what is going to happen now? Look, all of those crabs are staring at you!"
Valerie looked around and saw that a bunch of Granchins had come to stare at her in awe. Their antenna wiggled like crazy, and they gazed at her in disbelief and reverence. The dragoness shook her head, extending her wings.
"It is time to get my kitten back home. I think she is feeling a little homesick."
"You can't just leave me here like this!" The vampiress yelled from the ground, shaking her fist.
The kitten in Valerie's arms looked down in pity towards Elanore. "Can't we just bring her with us for now as a guest?"
Valerie should have known it was coming. She should have known, yet she could only sigh at the reality. She transformed in the air, flipping Bery onto the scarf hanging from her neck.
The dragoness used one of her claws to carefully pluck the vampiress from the ground by the collar of her blue robes.
"Hey! What are you doing to me!?"
Valerie broadcast her voice into the vampires mind. "Were you not the one who said I shouldn't leave you there? I am taking you to my glorious castle. You should feel only gratitude, you thieving vampiress."
Luckily for the dragoness, the vampire in her claw did not struggle. She simply sighed and let herself droop down, being carried like baggage.
"Don't you feel kind of bad for her?" Bery asked.
"Even if I felt bad for her, this was the best way to pick her up in that situation. I did not want to taste another person that isn't you again."
"Speaking of taste, what happened to that kraken when you defeated it?"
"Naturally, I stored it, so that I can listen to your cute purrs later."
Valerie knew that her words struck a chord within her kitten. Bery went silent and shuffled on the dragon's back. Such a cute little kitten you are. I can't wait to see your expression later.
If the dragoness was honest with herself, this trip had struck many envious feelings within her heart. She would not let any chef best her in reaching the kitten's stomach. She remembered perfectly the flavor of that piz'za and mac'aroni. She'd magically engraved those details into her mind.
Valerie would make a piz'za that would make Bery melt into a puddle, and then she would swoop in to drink that puddle like a sweet fruit juice. She already had ideas to improve the flavor of those foods in her mind. All she needed was the will to make it happen. And was there anything in this world that Valerie couldn't will herself to do?
There is one thing. No matter what, she would never do something to intentionally harm her kitten. If it was the entire world or her kitten, Valerie would erase the world. She would go up against all beings, even if they damned her.
The other two living primordial dragons would not be easy to topple, but she would somehow persevere.
Her worst opponent would be the black dragon by far. Gods could regenerate themselves if they were killed. They would never die. No matter how many times you could kill them, they'd come back. But that did not mean they were inherently strong. They were concepts. If Valerie could find a way to erase their concept, then it was doable. However, the black dragon was completely different.
If Valerie could consider herself as an eraser, the black dragon was an absorber. It was her worst opponent by far. It would be like an unstoppable force, meeting an immovable object. The only thing that is certain is the world would end if the two ever came to clash.
Luckily, that dragon was even more averse to conflict than Valerie was. He sat in his own space, completely absorbed with whatever had beseeched his mind at the time. One day it would be strange books, and the next time Valerie blinked, it would be spirits.
As for the white dragon…
Valerie did not enjoy the company of that white dragoness. They were on friendly enough terms, but she disliked how the dragoness tried to tell her what to do. No, let her serve as a timekeeper somewhere far away from me.
The dragoness turned her attention towards the purring kitten on her back instead. It made Valerie's heart jump with joy to see the kitten had fallen asleep so clumsily on top of her. You silly kitten…
