I Became a Police Officer in a Superhero Genre

Alright. Let’s calmly assess the situation.

I tried to recruit New Hope to prevent Park Su from becoming an official government hero and expose him as Justice to overturn the situation.

Although I felt uneasy because the person who suggested overturning things like this was Team Leader Yagi, Sai’s subordinate, I had no choice but to accept, so I didn’t tell that woman at all how I was planning to handle things.

But fuck, somehow they knew, and suddenly 3 mutants appeared and lunged at New Hope, and an ice space was created to arrange a one-on-one meeting between me and Justice bastard.

Did Sai already know what plan I would make if I stepped into this situation? In the novel, there were descriptions of how terrifyingly good her mind was.

I knew her mind was very good because she had solved many cases thanks to that outstanding intellect. But no matter how I look at it, this doesn’t seem like just being smart, but more like reading my mind?

When I tried to bring New Hope to subdue Justice, mutated beings appeared to block New Hope.

No matter how much stronger she’s become, it will surely take time for her to subdue those monsters while protecting the citizens gathered in broad daylight.

I’m alive. I didn’t die from the first strike. But my head is spinning so much I can’t get my bearings. My body curls up as if convulsing from the impact of falling to the ground with ice shards.

Ah damn, I thought I could endure it, but it hurts quite badly.

He’s close. This is my chance. I pretended to mutter something while spitting out sounds from my mouth and hunched over. While preventing him from seeing what my arm was doing, I quietly moved my hand.

He sneered and bent down. His face said he wanted to hear what I was saying. I gripped the gun I had tucked inside. I deliberately made coughing sounds to hide the small noise of the gun moving.

I aimed the muzzle at Justice from under my clothes. In this position, there’s a high chance my arm will be ruined whether from burns or whatever – but if I don’t do this, I’ll really die.

He comes closer. Towards him who was repeating what I said softly, I pulled the trigger.

He gritted his teeth in rage. He gnashed his teeth as if shocked that he was wounded, and steam rose from his body so hot it could be felt. He seemed to have lost his mind, foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog.

His fist raised. Seeing that, I immediately-

Mina, New Hope, kicked away the huge chunk of ice flying towards her.

While doing so, New Hope’s eyes busily checked the positions of the surrounding citizens, and at the same time she gritted her teeth as she shook off the shattered ice chunks to prevent them from hitting the citizens.

The one shooting ice was a figure in a black coat wearing an upside-down Hahoetal mask. A wall blocking her way and preventing her from going to Detective Lee Mun-su.

That being, who was only known to be around 170cm tall and use ice superpowers, was very strong, persistent, and also calm.

New Hope was clearly stronger, but that woman deliberately attacked the citizens New Hope had to protect to create openings, and her ability utilization was superior to anyone New Hope had met so far.

While dealing with the remaining Hahoetal being and trying to buy some time, those mutants recovered instantly and attacked the citizens.

New Hope gritted her teeth at that meticulous and irritating combination, but as the fight continued, she felt her doubts deepening.

They were certainly powerful beings, but their behavior seemed as if their goal wasn’t to terrorize and kill citizens, but rather to hold New Hope back itself.

Was there a reason for those supervillains to attack this place in the first place? There’s a reason for every crime and action. New Hope mulled over the words she had heard from Detective Lee Mun-su.

She thought about the purpose of the interview that was going on in this park, but she couldn’t understand why they would launch such an attack.

If she tried to come up with a plausible reason forcibly, it would be to attack the politicians and high-ranking police officials gathered here, but if that were the case, they just roughly put those people in the ice and aren’t doing anything.

New Hope cursed while glaring at the huge ice wall that had been erected. Beyond that, Detective Lee Mun-su was trapped inside that ice wall together with the supervillain Justice.

Detective Lee Mun-su tried to provoke Justice during the interview to reveal his identity in order to prevent Justice from becoming an official government hero while hiding his identity.

That plan was successful up to a point. In fact, Justice couldn’t stand Detective Lee Mun-su’s provocation and showed a reaction. Afterwards, New Hope was supposed to subdue Justice and neutralize him according to the plan, but-

If things stay like this, Detective Lee Mun-su will be in danger. As New Hope bit her lip anxiously, the Hahoetal being asked her a question.

“[- Truly amazing. You. You haven’t let a single citizen get hurt so far. You’re not even slowing down – it’s impressive. New Hope. So I want to ask you.]”

“[Why don’t you try to become an official hero? With your sense of justice and strength, people would surely acknowledge you, wouldn’t they?]”

A nasty voice with noise. New Hope answered the question with an irritated voice while grabbing flying ice chunks and throwing them at the monster with huge fists:

“What nonsense are you talking about? I’m just doing what I can do, why do I need acknowledgment?”

“[- I see.]”

The Hahoetal being made a sound that was hard to tell if it was a sigh or admiration.

Thud! While kicking and shattering the ice rising from below and simultaneously smashing the teeth of the mutant with huge teeth into the ground,

Bang bang bang! New Hope heard three gunshots coming from beyond the ice wall. As New Hope’s face turned pale sensing something ominous, the Hahoetal being spoke.

“[Time’s up. Then – I hope you don’t lose that will until the very end. Even after that detective you believe in dies.]”

As the Hahoetal being said that and waved its hand, the mutants that had been getting up and rampaging no matter how many times they were knocked down became quiet as if they had been given a sedative.

“Aaaargh!!”

A man’s scream followed. New Hope felt her head go blank at that scream, and she understood what their goal had been.

They were after Detective Lee Mun-su. They weren’t targeting politicians, high-ranking officials, or citizens, but were just buying time for Detective Lee Mun-su to be killed by Justice.

New Hope felt flames rising inside her for a moment. If she had known the goal of those damn beings, she wouldn’t have let them drag out time like this.

Ignoring whatever happened to anyone, not caring who died. I-

New Hope, no, Mina ran towards the other side of the ice wall without even noticing the Hahoetal being escaping with the mutants.

As the Hahoetal being moved away, the ice wall began to collapse. Mina ran towards the other side with all her might.

“No… anything but that.”

Mina ran with all her might, feeling tears welling up in her eyes. In an instant, she was able to cross over the half-collapsed ice wall. What Mina saw first after crossing the ice wall was-

The sight of Justice lying face down on the ground with his eyes rolled back showing the whites, and Detective Lee Mun-su casually calling New Hope while wiping the blood flowing from his mouth.

“…Huh?”

It’s not the worst situation I imagined. But, this wasn’t an expected scene either. Mina blinked her eyes like a newborn puppy.
