Chapter 24
Ugh…
I came to my senses, feeling as though my head would explode from the pain.
My messy hair and the blanket wrapped around my body…
Was this suffocating feeling due to that?
I struggled to toss off the blanket constraining me and finally leaned against the bed, trying to sit up.
…What happened yesterday?
So, after I came back from a night walk…
I somehow felt down and had a drink.
I think I did a broadcast, but I couldn’t remember the content at all.
There’s a simple way to find out at times like these.
I picked up my phone to check the community—
—12 missed calls!
[Ji-yeon]
It seemed something must’ve happened yesterday.
I checked the missed calls from the morning.
After seeing the creepy messages saying to contact them when I wake up, I couldn’t muster the courage to make a call and just logged into the community.
First, I should figure out what happened.
[The viewer who watched the broadcast from start to finish gave it a thumbs down] +11
<"I turned on the broadcast because I missed you, mp4."> +23
<"Reasons why a swordsman should be a tier 1 agent, eu (serious, long)"> +7
<"Compilation of yesterday’s Mollru’s iconic scenes"> +10
After the joint broadcast with Sua and a few others, my story seemed to take up half the discussion in the EOW gallery.
The manager, Mr. Rain, told me they call it the “galju” in layman’s terms.
Looking at the posted articles, it seems many things happened even if I can’t remember…
What the heck is a Mollru?
I glanced through a post titled “Compilation of clips mentioning me.”
-“The best defense is a good offense, right? So I’ll go ahead and give it a shot this time.”
-“The trailer was spot on. I’ve grown bigger, yet the surrounding cars don’t dare approach.”
-“Where are your eyes? How can you drive like that? Me? I drive well, you know.”
…Let’s stop looking at these.
Skimming through the clips helped me piece together what happened yesterday.
Memory fragments started to come back.
It’s been a while since I hit the breaking point after one bottle of soju. How weak is this body?
As I recalled the events from last night and wallowed in my misery, another post caught my eye.
[Mollru, but didn’t you open a YouTube channel?]
With around 3-4 thousand live viewers, and having guest-starred on Sua’s YouTube, if just a decently edited video was uploaded, views would surely come flooding in. So why isn’t it being done?
Noh Yeo: Right? The wreckers are spreading everything around, I keep reporting them one by one, but it doesn’t seem to help much.
Oh Oh: Doesn’t seem like they want to do YouTube? Just broadcasting keeps them busy.
Noh Oh: Not someone who goes live all the time, lol.
Oh Oh: I sent an email, hoping to edit for Mollru, but there’s been no response. Seems like they haven’t even read it.
YouTube.
Ah, I remember YouTube.
For streamers, having a YouTube channel is practically essential.
Who wouldn’t want free money?
If I were to do YouTube, it would mostly feature gaming content, catering to people who can’t watch live broadcasts or want to see only the funny parts from the stream.
YouTube would give them what they want.
It’s like an extension of the live broadcast but can provide a somewhat lighter touch despite the heavy vibes.
Although my broadcast time is relatively short, still.
YouTube is also known as a pension—it’s a structure where not doing it feels like a waste.
Just by reading the posts, it was clear I was in the wrong for not doing YouTube.
With viewers tuning in live and having already drawn enough attention via Sua’s YouTube…
Oh, there was some mention of Sua’s YouTube as well.
From our first meeting to the training broadcasts, I had agreed on putting it on YouTube. But I’d buried that in my memory until now.
And what about that email?
Someone said they applied as an editor?
How did they get my email?
Email, email…
Ah.
Switch has certain details streamers must input.
Mainly personal contact info and email for communication.
Emails are often posted below the broadcast screen, in streamers’ personal feeds.
It’s more suitable for official contact, like advertising.
When I started broadcasting, I left my personal email just as most streamers do.
And now I opened it for the first time.
Pandora’s box, might be the right term.
Interference as if telling me I shouldn’t run broadcasts like that.
This is relatively mild.
Some went as far as leaving emails saying they wanted to meet me at least once.
What they call a catfish?
It’s a feeling beyond that.
I can’t understand why someone would want to meet a girl they only know by hands and voice.
But beyond that, there were also malicious sexual harassment and direct insults directed at me.
“Your hands are so white, it turns me on. Today, I got a few victories just with your voice. You’re a filthy b. Is that how you live? Mosquito. Straw…”
Those kinds were diverse.
Unlike the chats my manager deleted immediately, emails remained intact in my inbox.
They bothered me a little.
The more I cared, the more I would end up doing what they wanted.
I tried to ignore them and scanned through other emails.
Just as the community said, there were several emails about YouTube.
Simple questions asking why I wasn’t doing YouTube,
Reports about wreckers uploading my broadcast videos without permission,
And the editor applications.
One editor application had a video attached that seemed to have been edited by the sender.
–This will definitely catch everyone, right?
In the video, my voice sounding rather unfamiliar echoing.
It presented my voice and spectacular gameplay without feeling burdensome.
A similar editing style seen in popular YouTube channels.
It seemed to say, “How did the streamer Mollru possess such charm?”
The editing was neat and showed effort.
With skills like this, they must be quite competent.
Along with the video they sent, there was also a message listing their experience.
They mentioned editing for channels over years and how flourishing those channels became.
Some channels I recognized surprised me a bit.
Did someone like this apply to be my YouTube editor?
Checking the sender left me startled again.
Sender: Rain
The manager?
They kindly provided their Switch ID, even attaching a screenshot showing their subscription date as proof of being my fan.
The date of my first broadcast.
Below that, their impressions of when they watched my first broadcast were detailed as if in an essay.
A bit burdensome, I must say.
Yet, interestingly enough, this person handling my broadcasts also wanted to take up editing.
A person with multiple talents.
But there were others applying beside the manager, and they were not lacking in skills either.
It might seem inconvenient to ignite a big issue now, but since I found out quite a few people wanted to be my editor, I couldn’t just pick anyone at random and report back.
As I sought a proper place to announce this, I soon realized I had no way to communicate with the viewers.
No matter how much they called me galju, I couldn’t post the recruitment notice for Mollru’s editor in the EOW gallery.
With no choice, I could only turn on the broadcast and announce it.
Mollru: Morning Broadcast
This time, it was genuinely morning.
The sun had just risen at 8 AM.
I wondered if people would still tune in at this hour, but,
[True Morning Broadcast ㄷㄷ]
[What’s the teacher’s lifestyle like?]
[How can it be this erratic ㅇㅇ]
“Good morning, everyone.”
I started the broadcast with the most common greeting.
<“Mollru is taking no sh*t” donated 1,000 won!>
-“Did you get home okay yesterday? ^^”
Their nickname screams troublesome viewer.
I responded in an utterly clueless tone.
“Yesterday? What happened yesterday?”
[Eh?]
[This girl is playing dumb, lol]
[Must be embarrassed]
[“I turned on the broadcast because I missed you”]
[The memories we shared yesterday…]
As I continually feigned ignorance, the viewers mentioning yesterday’s events began to tire.
Seeing this as the right moment, I displayed the recruitment notice for the editor that I’d prepared.
It boiled down to a memo with the key points, but still.
“I’m trying to recruit a YouTube editor; two people have already applied via email. Is there anyone here who would like to apply as well?”
[Me]
[Yes, I applied~]
[Can’t resist being Mollru’s editor, lol]
[Me me!]
[These guys won’t even do it while causing trouble]
[What’s in it for becoming an editor?]
“An editor, yes. Well, basically, we’ll split the YouTube revenue, right?”
[Sharing something with Mollru ㅗㅜㅑ]
Viewers tend to blow things out of proportion.
“Revenue is a sensitive matter, so let’s meet directly to discuss it. If anyone wants to apply, please email me.”
I’ll take applications until tomorrow-.
After leaving that, I ended the broadcast.
The chat filled with fishing hooks was quite striking.
I had broadcasted yesterday, and just opened the stream again for the announcement.
Now that it was done, I could’ve just turned it off.
I sank back into the comfy bed.
