Chapter 141
After arriving in Japan, Ryuah had been carefully observing the sisters’ behavior.
“It’s a maid cafe, unnie. It’s totally amazing, right?”
“Maid… yeah, I guess.”
The maid cafe they arrived at first. As Ji-eun’s gaze lingered on the maid for a long time, Ji-yeon asked.
“Is the maid cosplay good? The maid outfit?”
“It looks uncomfortable, all frilly and stuff, but the clothes are pretty.”
“Really?”
Ji-yeon chuckled meaningfully, as if to remember that comment.
What did that ‘Really?’ mean? It didn’t seem just like a response to Ji-eun’s words. A picture formed in Ryuah’s mind.
Ji-yeon enjoying putting the maid outfit on her frail, submissive sister, and taking delight in seeing Ji-eun, burdened, serve her while dressed as a maid. Working together in maid outfits at the maid cafe…
Suddenly, several scenes flashed before her eyes, and just when Ryuah’s mind started to blank out, someone poked her gently.
“Uh, hmmm?”
“Are you okay? Why are you spacing out like that? Are you sick?”
Ji-eun looked at Ryuah with a worried face. Only then could Ryuah properly contemplate the current situation.
Inside the cafe, maids had just delivered ordered snacks while chanting ‘delicious blessings.’
Having a costumed server shout such blessings after bringing food was an experience not common in daily life.
While everyone was enjoying this unique experience, Ryuah alone wore a serious expression.
“Unnie, are you okay? Should we wrap up the sightseeing for today and head back to the accommodation to rest?”
Ji-yeon asked, giving off the same worried vibe as her sister.
A triangle in Ryuah’s chest spun fiercely, stabbing painfully at her heart.
‘What am I thinking about, leaving such a good girl?’
The strange thoughts that lodged into Ryuah’s mind from the moment she boarded the plane were affecting her even now.
Ji-yeon’s meaningful smile could just have been pure brightness, but maybe Ryuah was just forcing herself to interpret it otherwise.
It was a situation filled with a ruckus in her head. If a one-eyed Mi-rok Buddha monk were to see Ryuah, he would have surely demolished the disturbance in her mind.
“I’m fine, just got a bit lost in thought…”
Ryuah mumbled awkwardly, smiling stiffly. Yet still, both sisters stared at Ryuah without touching the desserts that had been served.
In the midst of this, Ji-eun reached out and touched Ryuah’s forehead.
“You don’t have a fever…”
“Huh? Oh… no fever. Why would I have a fever when it’s not even a cold?”
“But your face is so red. Your ears too.”
Well, that’s because you suddenly touched my forehead!
The cause was clear, but she couldn’t voice it. Wouldn’t it be ridiculous to say her face turned red just because someone touched her forehead?
Feeling embarrassed, Ryuah quickly covered her flushed face with her hands and started darting her eyes around. That’s when something caught her attention.
“Huh…?”
It was Ji-yeon’s face. As Ji-eun’s gaze turned to Ryuah, Ji-yeon’s expression vanished when Ryuah covered her face.
From a smiling face to a neutral one. In that quick change of expression, Ryuah sensed subtle annoyance directed at her.
‘Is it jealousy?’
Ji-yeon’s gaze then shifted over to Ji-eun. More precisely, to Ji-eun’s hand that had touched Ryuah’s forehead. Ji-yeon’s eyes momentarily darted to that spot before drifting away.
Ryuah lowered the hand covering her face. Her previously flushed face was already calming down a lot.
“Oh, you look better now?”
“Uh… yeah.”
“Thank goodness. What should we play next?”
Ji-yeon’s face was bright, as if nothing had happened. The brightness of her smile made Ryuah momentarily wonder if she had misread the situation.

Travel is fun. Traveling with people who share your mind is even more so.
I was feeling that in real-time right now.
After arriving in Japan, we stopped by a maid cafe and visited a goods shop dubbed the haven for fans.
On the way, we even dined at a place known for its delicious tonkatsu and sushi. Thinking about it now, all this is a full-course meal made up of things that fans love.
It made sense why Ryuah was fond of the fans; her code matched theirs.
And there was one more good piece of news.
“Are we heading to the accommodation now? Uh… I want to rest quickly.”
“Yeah, the ryokan we booked is just 30 minutes from here.”
“It has a hot spring, right? It does, right?”
“Y-yeah, that’s right…”
It felt like Ji-yeon and Ryuah grew closer as they traveled together. They were never on bad terms, but today felt warmer than usual.
The fact that the two who were around me got along well was great news for me. It meant they could continue to spend time together.
After walking leisurely for a while, they finally reached their destination.
The exterior was distinctly Japanese, a traditional building you could tell at a glance, but the inside was surprisingly modern. It had a hotel lobby vibe.
-^$#$#^#@…?
– Kim Ryuah…!@$#
– Kimu Ryuah-san…
Ryuah stepped into the ryokan she had booked at the entrance.
While not fluent, she could communicate in Japanese at a decent level.
Honestly, she had worried about this part as well, but it was going well. If necessary, they could communicate in English, but going to a country with someone who can speak the local language is more convenient in many ways.
“All done, we can go in now.”
After finishing the check-in, Ryuah stepped inside. Following the guide, they headed to their room.
“Wah…”
A small gasp escaped Ji-yeon’s lips. She seemed quite surprised. I didn’t voice my feelings, but I shared a similar sentiment.
The tatami room was neatly decorated. A table and wooden chairs were present, and there were sliding doors you could push open at various spots. The view of the city was visible from a window allowing sunlight in.
Even before doing anything inside this room, just entering it felt healing.
Is that why people come to travel so much?
–snooze–
The guide finished explaining and left with a smile, and we excitedly began to explore the room.
“Clothes are here.”
“It must be yukata; looks like they have different sizes.”
As the door slid open, a stack of neatly folded robes of the same kind appeared. Ryuah provided extra details, saying it was a traditional Japanese garment.
I also recalled having seen something similar once online, albeit not in real life. Seeing it in person sparked unique reflections.
“To get into the mood… should we change into these?”
“Into these?”
“They should’ve been washed, so they’re probably clean. I wonder if Ji-eun’s a small like me.”
Drawn by Ryuah’s hand, I found myself holding a yukata.
Is it just something you throw over your clothes? If that’s the case, can’t I just wear it over what I’m already wearing?
With that thought in mind, I began to put on the yukata.
However, contrary to my expectation of it being a simple robe, I struggled with the act of dressing itself. It seemed I wasn’t the only one; Ryuah was also having her share of trouble nearby.
While rummaging through the clothes…
“I’ll help you, unnie.”
Ji-yeon approached and delicately adjusted the outfit. The wrongly tied knot came undone, and the fabric softly swished as it fell into place.
Could it be that she thinks I’m incapable of dressing myself? How is Ji-yeon so skillful with the yukata? Did she learn this at school or something?
Ji-yeon was right in front of me adjusting my clothes. I slightly turned my head to the side to avoid bumping our faces.
Being so close, the scent of Ji-yeon’s shampoo wafted over.
“By the way, unnie, are you going to wear it like this?”
“Wear it like what?”
“I thought wearing something light underneath would be more comfortable.”
That does make sense. After all, I’d be going around inside the ryokan. The building’s warm anyway.
I thought Ji-yeon had a point and pulled out a thin t-shirt and shorts from my travel bag.
As I moved to the opposite room to change, Ji-yeon followed in with the yukata.
“Go put on a yukata too, Ji-yeon. They have plenty of sizes.”
“I’m going to help you first. Just change into the clothes underneath.”
This is just embarrassing for me as an older sister. I wonder if Ji-yeon sees me as some little kid that needs to be dressed.
In the past, perhaps I wouldn’t have been aware, but now I took that in stride. Being dressed by Ji-yeon wasn’t unpleasant. After all, I had gone through similar experiences at Eun-ha’s clothing store multiple times, so I shouldn’t start feeling awkward about it now.
“I just learned roughly from watching you before. Unnie can figure it out, so you change too.”
There wasn’t a grand reason. Recently, I decided to embrace my identity as part of the I Ji-eun family.
And that meant I couldn’t continue as before.
I am ‘I Ji-eun’ and the ‘I Ji-yeon’ older sister. Is it ideal for an older sister to always receive care instead of taking care of her younger sibling? That didn’t align with my vision of what an older sister should be.
Ideally, an elder should display a dependable side that those below can lean on.
Having defined that for myself, I planned to slowly change moving forward. This was the starting point.
“Huh? No, I’ll help you change. It’s not a bother, so hurry up.”
“I’ll change myself, Ji-yeon. Let’s do it that way, okay?”
Ji-yeon seemed shocked that I had taken such a firm stance.
But she didn’t give up, insisting on dressing me until, realizing I wasn’t going to change my mind, she finally turned around and left the room.
“Unnie has changed…”
She mumbled something like that.
Yeah, unnie has changed. Unnie should change too. How much longer can I live like this? A true unnie shouldn’t behave like this.
I nodded with a satisfied face.
Then I fought with the yukata alone for nearly 10 minutes.
