I Became a Demon Queen

Chapter 4 - I Became a Magical Girl (2)

I Became a Magical Girl (2)

“Wow. This is quite a different scenery.”
I crossed the dimensional gate in transformed state. Despite feeling awkward, my mood was at its peak. My heart was pounding so much I could barely contain it.
“Welcome… new magical girl.”
Rana was waiting there. After reading the mood, she naturally spoke informally. After all, here I wasn’t a demon king, but an ordinary magical girl.
“Hello?”
So I waved and smiled in greeting. Though her expression froze awkwardly, I simply ignored it.
“So, when can I go to Earth? I mean, when can we go?”
“We could go right now. But before that, let me introduce your mascot. Usually, these mascots spot magical girl potential in the field, then scouts go to make contracts – that’s the normal process…”
Rana explained while glancing back at me following her. I wasn’t really paying attention, busy taking in my surroundings.
They called it the fairy nation, but it wasn’t a mystical space like where Yggdrasil was. Just an ordinary building in an ordinary world.
“Hmm, it seems the employees don’t know about me.”
“…As per the contract, we kept silent. Even low-level employees didn’t know you were coming.”
The fairies passing by all looked at me with questioning eyes. I nodded in understanding as Rana explained this.
Come to think of it, the confidentiality was something I put in the contract myself.
“Now, here’s Toy, one of our Lana Land’s mascots and a board member, a veteran who will be in charge of you…”
Rana flung open her office door. Then she froze stiff. Curious, I peeked my head over her waist.
“P-President! A-actually…”
“Please leave it to me, President! I can definitely do it!”
Inside, past the frozen Rana, were a pale-faced Yuria and some stubby doll.
“The board member was just taken away with acute neurosis. Therefore, I will fill that position as his successor! President, as you know, I, Ren, have experience caring for 28 magical girls, and my performance…”
The doll, which seemed to be based on a dog, was enthusiastically waving its short arms on the desk while giving its self-PR.
Looking at Yuria’s mentally broken, exhausted appearance and Rana’s statue-like state, I roughly understood the situation.
“So you’re that rookie Yuria talked about!”
Meanwhile, that doll hopped down and walked toward me. Then it stood in front of me, crossed its arms, and scanned me up and down.
“Age appears early to mid-teens, black, black, black with lots of exposure. Seeing the armament engraving on the lower abdomen… seems like someone with many wounds. Yet wearing a fancy uniform and hat. And harboring strong desires inside!”
“So this doll that openly evaluates others’ underwear is my partner?”
I stomped with my heel on the one openly evaluating me and trying to peek under my skirt. Only then did Rana finally start to speak.
“I was planning to assign you to a veteran. He already knew everything and could have handled things smoothly…”
“Must have been quite stressed to be carried away like that.”
I couldn’t help but snicker. It was an unexpected situation after all. Rana was trying hard to maintain composure, but unlike her expressionless face, the hand pushing up her glasses was trembling.
“Can’t be helped. Stay here for just one day. We can quickly inform Ren about your identity and proceed with training…”
“No, this seems more interesting. Going with someone who knows nothing.”
“But…!”
“I’m just a magical girl anyway.”
I rejected her proposal to retrain me. Then I lifted my foot and picked up the stomped doll, raising it to my eye level.

“This rookie, getting cocky with special recruitment, how dare…”
“Let’s get along, Ren.”
“Hiik…”
Our eyes met as I grinned at the struggling creature. I preferred as few people as possible knowing my secret, and as I told Rana, this seemed more fun anyway.
“Uh, President. Actually, I still have unfinished work…”
“Then Ren. You are now in charge of newcomer Takiras here. Take her to Earth.”
No turning back. Rana ordered the personnel change on the spot.
I carelessly tossed Ren aside. My heart was pounding again. Finally going to Earth.

Magical girls. Mysterious beings who fight against villains.
But reality is neither simple nor as beautiful as they are.
Good and evil – what exactly is good and what is evil?
If good and evil are divided, where does good end and evil begin? And whether these supernatural beings are truly ‘right.’
Whether we should acknowledge them as heroes just by looking at results.
Or if we should see them as a group of superhumans bringing chaos to the world. This was the uncomfortable ‘reality’ where all of these mixed together.
“Everyone hands up!”
“Kuhehe…”
“Damn it Lacos! Don’t eat yet! They’re hostages!”
This was in the middle of Seoul. The streets were in chaos even in broad daylight.
Armed criminals had taken people hostage and occupied a building. The peculiar point was that among the masked criminals, there was also a strangely shaped monster mixed in.
These were beings commonly called mutants in this world, with origins ranging from laboratories to aliens to natural occurrence.
“Hurry up and unlock it! Now!”
“I-it takes a bit more time!”
One of them was threatening what appeared to be a researcher with a gun inside the building. This was after several people had already been shot dead.
The researcher, turned pale white, hurriedly started unlocking the vault’s passwords one by one.
“…Huh?”
But at that moment. With a flash of light, someone appeared in the middle of the criminals who were in a standoff with the police holding hostages.
“Waaahh quickly deal with them! It’s villains!”
“How annoying to get thrown into action right away? You didn’t come here on purpose, right?”
“…”
Just as I suspected. Clicking my tongue, I threw Ren who was clinging to my shoulder and immediately moved my magic power.
Tall buildings, clear sky, pavement blocks, Earth’s trees and Earth’s air – all of it was good.
Police holding guns, media’s cannon-like cameras… these were good too.
But those bastards committing terror in the middle of Seoul were harmful to my nostalgia.
Especially that weird-looking green monster.
“Magical gi… aaargh!”
“What is… guaahh!”
My shadow rippled quickly and flowed along the ground. The shadow that burst forth literally blew away, pierced through, and slammed down the bastards.

Precisely just the perpetrators while leaving the hostages alone. One of them shot at me from above, but I deflected everything with a curtain made of shadows.
“Uuurgh!”
“…Disgusting.”
The green monster I had been watching charged in with thundering steps and swung its sharpened claws.
I flicked my hand. With the sound of breaking glass, dozens of needle-like tentacles burst from my shadow rippling on the ground and pierced through its body.
Though it had quite a tough body, it couldn’t block my magic power which had cutting power equal to a Sword Master’s blade energy.
“Is it over?”
“No, still some inside.”
“Ah seriously, how annoying.”
I expanded my senses. I know where they all are, so I’ll quickly go deal with them and leave this place. Shadow wrapped around my body, and with that I soared upward.
“Aaaaaah!”
The bastard started firing his gun as soon as he saw me flying in through the window.
Thanks to that I used less force breaking the window, but even so, taking bullets head-on with bare skin was inevitably a bit stinging.
“Kuhuk..”
“Now five left.”
As I swung my arm after entering the building, the shadow tentacles slashed the bastard’s neck. As the headless corpse collapsed spraying blood like a fountain, I looked at the balding man crouching and trembling while looking at me.
“C-Code Red…”
“What nonsense are you talking about?”
“Ngh, Code Red is the standard humans set when classifying magical girls. Red is… given to those who commit slaughter without hesitation.”
“They sure do unnecessary things.”
I snorted and walked past the corridor.
Maybe because I’m not fully adjusted yet it’s a bit rickety, but still, where the bastards are… now I can see them all.
“So.”
“Kuhuk.”
“Why are.”
“D-don’t come, monster girl… kik.”
“You doing this?”
“Aaah!”
The trio trapped in the dead end who charged at me, these bastards too were all pierced, slashed, and cut to death by my shadow. Standing in the splashing pool of blood, I started getting curious.
Why were these guys committing terror in the middle of the city in broad daylight?
“You’re a magical girl. Your duty is to just shut up and eliminate villains… hueeek!”
“It might be fun to tear off your limbs one by one and sew them back on.”
“These guys were after the mana stone in this research facility aaagh!”
When I grabbed and stretched both arms of Ren who was speaking impudently, he finally spilled everything. Of course, I didn’t understand what I heard, but hearing the name mana stone, I could only deduce it was something similar to magic stones.
“That’s far enough, unnamed rookie magical girl.”
However, I postponed detailed thoughts for later. As I approached to catch the last one quietly waiting on the top floor, some middle-aged man was holding a gun to the head of a bound child.
“If you take one more step, this child dies.”
“…”
“I know your ability is shadows. Stop right there.”
“Hmm.”
He’s skilled compared to his stupid subordinates who couldn’t even handle a hostage situation properly. Even if I kill him, it would be hard to stop him from pulling the trigger.
