I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 135: Anatomy Teacher, King Guilong Temple (5k)_2

Big Sister Ye gives him gifts every couple of days, and he's never managed to give anything back. A few days ago, when he went to Yu State, he specially asked some young people from the Yu State Scorching Sun Department for ideas. They recommended this—apparently, people who don't usually wear makeup are sure to like it.

Sure enough, Big Sister Ye loved it, saying this product was all the rage overseas lately, basically impossible to buy here. People only bring it back from Harbor City, and it's great for skin care.

They chatted for a while, then he left two bottles of alcohol for Old Zhang, and gave out a few appropriate little gifts to other colleagues, just handing them out as he bumped into people.

He really enjoyed being the slacker—never once punched in, but always had perfect attendance.

He wandered about, and when it was time to get off work, Wen Yan slipped out quickly, and afternoon arrived.

He made it to the hospital just after two o'clock.

He went to see Zhang Laoxi. After taking the Yin and Soul Nourishing Pill, Zhang Laoxi was definitely looking more energetic. Plus, with Wen Yan giving him the Scorching Sun's blessing, now, aside from looking a bit skinnier, he seemed alright.

When Zhang Laoxi heard Wen Yan was here to help with the body donation, he insisted on tagging along to check it out.

Close to two thirty, there were already quite a few people inside and outside the hospital room.

Zhang Laoxi, dressed in a hospital gown, followed Wen Yan into the room. The patient inside didn't look older than forty, but considering he'd been lying here for a year, he looked older than his actual age—probably just thirty-something, really.

After Wen Yan entered and introduced himself, he learned that this patient used to be able to breathe on his own.

But yesterday, all of a sudden, he couldn't breathe unaided anymore, so they put him on a ventilator. Now he was just barely hanging on thanks to the machines.

The family struggled all night before finally deciding not to drag things out any longer.

Wen Yan looked around but didn't notice anything unusual. Zhang Laoxi checked too and confirmed the guy's soul was long gone.

Gauss had just started his shift; when he sensed Wen Yan as he passed by, he came over too. He also confirmed the guy couldn't feel any pain anymore—he was dead.

After verifying there weren't any issues with the body, they moved ahead with the next steps.

They signed the papers, removed the tubes, bowed, said their goodbyes, and then the body was taken away. As the deceased had wished, his body would go to the medical school to be used for teaching.

And his body was well-suited, not overweight with little fat, and as for how it'd be used specifically, that would depend on the actual situation.

Everything went smoothly, with only the relatives crying quietly nearby.

Wen Yan quietly played the part of the silent staff member, watching the whole process.

He didn't even know where the body would be sent; naturally, the family had no way of knowing either.

After finishing work for the day and returning home, Wen Yan ordered takeout and took the finger-bone magic wand Gauss had given him to tidy up the house a bit.

After dinner, he practiced boxing in the backyard. Then, in the middle of the night, Old Zhao's family's front door opened again.

Wen Yan saw a skinny, strangely twisted, almost completely transparent ghost, stitched back together like it had been broken and reassembled, walk out from inside.

A transparent chain still hung around his neck, the back half already broken off.

He had just stepped outside and was already teetering on the edge of complete dissipation.

Wen Yan only needed a glance to fall silent.

"I knew it! Whenever the curator gives me a task to do, there's always some kind of unexpected twist!"

The ghost was falling apart, but even with the mess of his face, Wen Yan recognized him at once—it was the body donor he'd just seen off that afternoon.

In fact, Wen Yan could even tell—the only reason this ghost was in such fragments but hadn't faded completely away was because of the transparent chain around his neck, already fused with his soul body.

He quickly walked forward, restraining his own Yang Energy; as he got closer, he slowed even more, terrified that just a stray breeze might make this person scatter.

He slowly stretched out a finger and gently tapped it to the other's head, channeling a bit of Yang Energy to bless him.

The ghost, who was nearly dispersed by even that little bit of Yang Energy Wen Yan brought with him, immediately became more solid again.

The ghost stood there blankly for a long time. Only after several minutes did a trace of light return to his vacant eyes.

He stared dazedly at Wen Yan, opened his mouth, but made no sound.

"He's asking who you are?"

Old Zhao came over to translate for the ghost, too weak to make a sound himself.

"I'm the staff member who handled your body donation today."

On hearing this, the ghost smiled.

"Will I really be used as a body teacher?"

"Unless something unexpected happens, yeah. I just can't say for sure what kind."

"Doesn't matter. Anything's fine, as long as it's useful."

"Do you remember how you died?"

"No, I don't."

"Then do you remember how your soul body ended up so broken?"

"I was doing a job for my master, and my soul body got crushed."

"Who?"

The ghost stood there in a daze for a full minute and finally said,

"King Guilong Temple."

Wen Yan frowned slightly. King Guilong Temple? Gui as in ghost? Rich? Which gui?

He wanted to ask for more details, but the ghost couldn't remember anything else. All Wen Yan could do was change the subject.

"And the broken chain around your neck—what's with that?"

"That's the rein my master gave me. I have to go back..."

Wen Yan took out the Scorching Sun Department's phone and snapped a photo. Although the ghost was almost transparent, you could make out the shape.

The ghost took a couple of steps and started to fade away. Right before he was completely gone, as if he suddenly remembered something, he turned back and mouthed something, then smiled, and finally vanished for good.
