Chapter 205: Chapter 205: New Phoenix
As Wakanda's princess, Shuri was no stranger to danger. Her black-tech weapons, including her signature hand cannons, had often proven their worth. But as she sprinted through the dense forest, pursued by the new Black Panther, Erik Stevens, she knew this was a fight she couldn't win. Eric had yet to fully adapt to his powers, and without his suit, he struggled to close the gap. Still, Shuri understood that it was only a matter of time before the royal guard, loyal to their new king, caught up to her.
With no hesitation, Shuri ran as fast as her legs could carry her. The hunt lasted for over half an hour, her quick thinking and familiarity with Wakanda's terrain the only things keeping her ahead. But her luck was running out. The guard was closing in, and she knew their loyalty to Erik meant her capture would end in certain death.
Salvation came in the form of a thunderous roar.
Bruce Banner, living in seclusion as a fugitive, had been keeping tabs on Wakanda through Shuri. When he heard of the coup, he acted without hesitation, rushing to her aid. Hulk smashed through the pursuing soldiers like a whirlwind of unstoppable force. While some hesitated to harm Shuri, others weren't so merciful. But even they stood no chance against the Hulk's ferocity. Taking advantage of the chaos, Hulk scooped Shuri into his arms and leapt into the dense jungle, vanishing into the night.
Jean Grey awoke on a plush bed, her head pounding as fragmented memories surfaced. She remembered a strange arena, a mysterious man, and the sharp pain of being struck. Her eyes snapped open as she sat upright, immediately checking her clothes. Everything was in place, and she sighed in relief, though her face flushed at the thought.
"Awake already?" a deep voice called.
Jean jumped, instinctively launching a psychic probe at the source of the voice. It rebounded with startling force, leaving her clutching her head in pain. "Who are you?" she demanded, her voice laced with fear. "And why is your mind so… strong?"
The man, tall and blonde, stood nearby with an amused expression. "Thor Odinson, Prince of Asgard. You can call me Your Highness—or just Thor."
"Asgard?" Jean repeated, frowning. "I've never heard of it. There aren't many monarchies left, and you're definitely not one of them."
Thor scratched his head. "That's because it's not a country on Earth."
Her confusion deepened. "Not on Earth? Then… where am I?"
Thor waved a hand. "Here, see for yourself." He relaxed his mind, letting her catch glimpses of his memories: the Nine Realms, his battles alongside the Avengers, and his life in Asgard.
Jean gasped, struggling to process what she saw. "So… this is another universe? A completely different Earth?"
Thor nodded. "Exactly. No mutants here, just superhumans. But trust me, they face the same fear and distrust you're used to."
Jean looked thoughtful. "Fear of the unknown never changes, does it?"
Thor grinned. "Not really. But unlike your professor, I'm not exactly a pacifist. I'd say my style is more… Magneto."
Jean raised an eyebrow. "Magneto?"
Thor smirked. "Let's just say I get things done."
The silence between them grew awkward before Thor cleared his throat. "Do you know Cyclops?"
Jean tilted her head. "Cyclops? You mean Scott Summers?"
Thor nodded. "A guy with an eye beam. Red laser."
Jean chuckled. "Yeah, Scott's new at the academy. Bit of a troublemaker. Burned down one of the professor's favorite trees last week."
Thor grinned. "Figures. Just curious."
As Jean relaxed slightly, Thor leaned back, his expression thoughtful. She's still early in her journey. No Phoenix Force yet… but that won't last forever.
