Chapter 155: The Nightmare
"What happened?"
"What is going on?"
"Why did I fall asleep?"
"Look alive, soldiers. You were controlled by this coward butler."
Siderius put his two knives away and slowly approached Jeffrey. He whistled.
Lycan immediately retreated. There were still pieces of flesh on its claws.
Jeffrey laid motionless on the ground. His face was bloody and inhuman. Most of the skin was peeled off by the wolverine.
"From what I remember... You have been following Jude for quite a long time. That incident when Jude ate his son. That must be what you're doing, am I correct?"
Jeffrey grinned. The movement of his face made him groan in pain. His eyes hovered around Siderius.
"So what. That arrogant bastard always thought he was the center of the world. He couldn't have what he has without me. It was all me. I helped him become who he was.
And what did I receive in return? Being a butler in an estate with no actual power."
Siderius tilted his head slightly, observing Jeffrey. He was trying to read Jeffrey's expression but his face was too damaged to even spot anything.
"You are much weaker than I thought. I know Schizomancer is very weak. Your power lies in the dream world after all. But why are you this weak? Didn't you have Mystic Eyes the last time we met? It was a very powerful Mystic Eyes also."
"I have no intention of telling you, white witch!" Jeffrey stared at Siderius.
"Argh! This goddamn title. Jude really made it stick with me. I don't like it.
You don't need to tell me. I will look into it myself."
"What do you mean..."
Siderius did a blinding palm strike at the head of the Schizomancer. He immediately fell unconscious. Then the hunter took out his Flesh Restoration Tonic and poured a little bit on Jeffrey's face. It would ensure he had a thin layer of skin to stop the bleeding and infection.
This Schizomancer might have very useful information. Siderius could use the Alchemy Palace once again to read his memory. He too also had a pair of Mystic Eyes. Maybe Siderius could find more about it in Jeffrey's memory.
The commander of the soldiers approached him.
"What happened, Lord Siderius?" He said.
"A tragic tale is all. This butler is a witch."
"Jeffrey?! No way!"
The soldiers looked at each other in disbelief.
"I've known him for many years. Never once did I suspect he was a high lord." The commander said.
Siderius nodded. He grabbed a handful of white salt and sprinkled it all over Jeffrey. Then he drew a seal on his chest.
"May I ask what are you doing, my lord?" The commander said.
"I'm locking away his magic. He is the culprit behind the recent murders in Scalize. He is very important and needs to be held as a captive. This 'magic circle' will make sure he won't cause any trouble."
Magic circle and seal were very similar so it was easy to fool the others by telling them the alchemical seal was something else. Alchemy didn't exist in this world as well so Siderius wasn't worried someone would find out.
They would only think that this was some kind of strange magic.
Once the sign sequence was finished. The seal lit up. All the Dark Aether inside Jeffrey's body was sealed away. A thin layer of crystallized salt clinged onto Jeffrey's Mana Core, preventing him from calling magic from his mana pool.
Siderius stood up and dusted his hands. "It's done. Carry him away. Make sure to always have at least ten guards watching him. Never sleep in his presence. Switch guards frequently. Assign one guard to receive reports from the group every fifteen minutes. If no report comes, tell him to sound the bell alarm immediately."
"Roger, my lord." The commander nodded his head.
Siderius raised his eyebrows. He couldn't help but notice the behavior of the soldiers toward him had changed significantly. Not only the commander, all the soldiers looked at him with respect and admiration.
A mysterious white witch came and solved the murders inside Scalize. Then he caught the culprit in a very short amount of time. The way Siderius carried himself also exuded extreme nobility and honor. He's efficient and could accomplish things well and quickly.
Everyone always admired a capable man with dignity.
The guards carried Jeffrey away. Siderius then arranged the soldiers one more time, making sure no one else would disturb him and the pair of husband and wife.
Siderius returned to the previous room. Jude and Caterina were still laying there peacefully, probably battling some type of nightmare inside their dream.
He kneeled down on the floor and drew a new seal on his forehead. This was an actual seal that would help him enter their dreams, not the decoy from before.
Siderius conducted the sign sequence and slowly drifted off to sleep.
In the dream world.
Caterina was cornered by a bunch of faceless shadow figures inside the Rottin Woods. She blew them all away with one simple gust of wind. The witch then got out of the Rottin Woods and found her way inside Scalize.
This was a different Scalize with fresh new rock walls and a busy street of people. It was around the first few years when Jude became the new Baron. The glorious day of Scalize.
Caterina looked around. She noticed that most of the people here didn't have any faces. Some had a resemblance of a face but it was very distorted.
When Caterina looked at them, all the faceless people stared at her at the same time. Caterina acted like she didn't notice it and averted her eyes away. The faceless people then also ignored her and continued with their routines like nothing happened.
"The people felt like some sort of defense mechanism..." Caterina mumbled. She stepped inside Scalize, heading toward the Baron's estate.
Inside the courtyard of the estate, Jude broke through the wooden wall of the house and rolled a few times on the ground.
In front of him, a giant creature of smoke was rushing at him. It had the size of the elephant and walked on all four like a gorilla. Its limbs were made of needles and knives while its face carried the appearance of Jareth Fisher.
"Stop this nonsense, Jareth! Go to the afterlife!" Jude roared.
Answering him was another strike from the phantom, it slashed toward Jude's direction with its knife hands.
