I am Overhaul in Jujutsu Kaisen World

Chapter 69: Things are about to get Ugly...

After a brief moment of silence, Utahime lifted her gaze to Ryosuke. "Can I talk to you for a minute, Ryosuke?" she asked, her voice lower to avoid disturbing Sayuri.

Ryosuke looked at his sister. Gently placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder, he said, "I'll be right back, Sayuri. I promise it won't take long."

But just as he began to stand, she grabbed his arm, her fingers clinging tightly, her teary eyes wide with panic. "No! Please don't go!"

Ryosuke hesitated, caught between his sister's plea and his sense of duty. Eventually, he cast a resigned glance at Utahime and offered a small, apologetic shrug.

Utahime observed the scene with a soft smile curling at her lips. "It's okay," she murmured. "The principal wanted me to tell you this personally: take all the time you need. No one expects anything from you until your family is ready."

Ryosuke nodded slightly in gratitude as she added, "And there will be a school liaison available if you need anything. Don't feel rushed."

Turning her attention to Sayuri, Utahime inclined her head politely. "I'll take my leave now. Goodbye, Sayuri."

Sayuri loosened her grip on Ryosuke's arm just enough to mumble in a trembling voice, "Goodbye, ma'am."

Utahime's smile widened before she walked away quietly.

Once she was gone, Ryosuke refocused entirely on Sayuri. "Hey," he said gently, "do you remember that afternoon we tried to make a kite? You insisted it had to look like a cat."

Sayuri sniffled, the faintest hint of amusement glimmering in her eyes.

"You wasted all the paper…" Ryosuke chuckled softly. "But when it flew, even just for a few seconds, you were the happiest girl in the world."

Sayuri nodded timidly. "That was a good day," she murmured. "Before things got… complicated."

Ryosuke placed his hand over hers. "We'll have more days like that, Sayuri. I promise. Even better ones."

Her eyes glistened as she looked at him. "Do you really think we can get back to that? To… normal?"

"Hey," he replied with a confident grin, "who managed to build a cat-shaped kite when everyone said it was impossible?"

Sayuri let out a small laugh.

Suddenly, Ryosuke tapped her shoulder. "Oh, guess what. On the way here, I saw this vendor near the station selling kite kits. Crazy ones! Like dragons and exotic birds."

Her eyes widened. "Are you serious?!"

"Absolutely. But…" He folded his arms, adopting a mock-serious tone. "We have to earn it first."

Sayuri squinted at him, suspicious. "What do you mean by 'earn'?"

"Well," Ryosuke said, smirking, "you'll have to give me a genuine smile… for at least ten seconds straight."

She frowned, squirming a little. "Ten seconds? That's… long."

"You've already done five without realizing," he countered, a playful glint in his eyes.

She laughed again, this time louder, her voice filling the room with a warmth they hadn't felt in days.

As the moment lingered, Ryosuke suddenly scanned the room. "By the way, where's Yuri?"

Sayuri blinked in surprise, her brow furrowing. "Yuri? He was here just a moment ago!"

She sat up on the bed, her eyes darting around the room. Her voice softened, almost sing-song. "Yoo-hoo, Yuri? Where are you?"

A faint meow broke the silence, drawing their attention to the shadows in a corner of the room. Slowly, a small white head emerged from between two pieces of furniture. Yuri's big, glistening eyes seemed to plead for forgiveness as he cautiously padded his way toward Sayuri.

"Yuri!" she exclaimed, her voice a mix of relief and tenderness as she gently scooped the tiny kitten into her arms. She hugged him close, her fingers lightly brushing over his soft fur.

"Why were you hiding, little guy?" she asked with a soft smile. Squinting her eyes playfully, she put on her best detective face and added, "Wait... Don't tell me you're afraid of big brother?"

Ryosuke crossed his arms, a sly smirk playing on his lips. "Me? Scare a kitten that small? Come on, hand him over, let me see."

Sayuri hesitated for a moment, her gaze flitting to Yuri with a hint of worry. But Ryosuke held out his arms, his demeanor calm and reassuring. "Come on, Sayuri. I promise I won't scare him."

Reluctantly, she placed Yuri into his waiting hands. The kitten trembled slightly as Ryosuke cradled him. Sayuri watched, her curiosity piqued. "Why's he shaking, do you think?"

Ryosuke shrugged, a faintly enigmatic smile tugging at his mouth. "It's nothing. Don't worry about it."

He brought the kitten closer to his face, gently blowing near Yuri's ear before whispering in a voice so low only the kitten could hear:

"You did good. You kept them safe."

As if by magic, Yuri began to purr loudly, curling into Ryosuke's hand with complete trust.

Sayuri's eyes widened in astonishment. "Wait… What? He's never purred like that before! What did you say to him?"

Ryosuke grinned broadly, his tone mischievous. "That's between me and Yuri. You know how it is—guys have their secrets."

Sayuri shot him a mock glare, though her lips were already curving into a smile. She held out her hands. "Alright, Mr. Kitten Whisperer. Hand him back."

Laughing, Ryosuke carefully returned Yuri to her arms. The kitten, still purring, nuzzled against Sayuri's chin, earning a bright giggle from her.

"Well," Ryosuke said as he straightened up, crossing his arms with a mock-serious expression, "looks like Yuri finally came to his senses. Guess it's never too late to shape up. Right, Sayuri?"

Sayuri arched a brow, her smile teasing. "If you're talking about me, I'll have you know I'm perfectly normal, big brother. You, on the other hand, are still as insufferable as ever."

Ryosuke stretched lazily, feigning indifference. "Anyway, I'm heading downstairs. Mom's probably lonely."

Sayuri nodded softly, settling back against her pillow with Yuri purring in her arms.

A mischievous glint appeared in Ryosuke's eyes. Before Sayuri could react, he leaned in and pinched her cheeks lightly.

"You, on the other hand, should get some rest, Hamster," he teased, darting back just in time to dodge the pillow she hurled at him with an indignant cry.

"Hey! I'm not a hamster, you idiot!"

Ryosuke's laughter echoed as he slipped out of the room, skillfully avoiding a second projectile.

"Missed me!" he called out playfully from the hallway.

But as soon as the door closed, his laughter vanished, snuffed out like a candle in the wind. His cheerful expression faded, replaced by something cold and severe. His lively eyes turned hard, and his jaw tightened.

For a moment, he stood motionless in the dim hallway, staring into the void. Slowly, his hand curled into a fist.

No one messes with my family.
