[<Ding!>]

[<Congratulations, you obtained: x1 Random Bundle>]

[<Do you want to open it now?>]

[<Yes>] / [<No>]

Kai exhaled, rubbing his temple as he eyed the screen.

"Random bundle, huh... Alright. Let's see what this thing's packing."

'Yes.'

The screen shimmered. The hologram shifted, opening up with a soft hum like some arcane vault unlocking itself.

[<Opening Random Bundle...>]

Three radiant cards materialized before him, each glowing with a different color: one golden, one deep violet, and one soft azure. One by one, they pulsed and unfolded.

[Item 1: Beastborne Catalyst Pill]

Description: A rare alchemical pill created from condensed evolutionary essence.

When fed to a contracted beast, it artificially stimulates a mutation-grade enhancement, unlocking latent potential and pseudo-evolution without undergoing a full evolutionary cycle.Grants significant stat boost, one random new trait/skill.

Kai's eyes narrowed slightly as he read through the description.

"Beastborne Catalyst Pill..."

He crossed his arms, processing.

'That's fucking awesome, means one of my beasts wouldn't have to wait too long like Luna.'

He tucked the thought away. The violet card pulsed and revealed the next reward.

[Item 2: Blank Scroll]

Description: A specialized scroll forged with refined mana-reactive parchment. Capable of absorbing and recording a single spell, skill, or formation, once recorded, you can use that spell or skill once, or in some cases, even learn that permanently. You can learn upto 2 ranks above you.

Kai let out a small breath.

"Okay, Okay..."

His gaze stayed focused, thoughtful, lips twitched upward.

'This one's flexible. I like that.'

Finally, the azure light flared gently, and the last item appeared.

[Item 3: Veilstep Pendant]

Description: A sleek black-steel pendant inlaid with a glowing aether crystal. Grants the user one short-range teleportation to any previously visited location. Does not function during interdimensional lockdowns.Cooldown: 24 HoursAdditional Info: Teleportation is instant, but does not bypass space-anchoring fields or anti-teleportation formations.

Kai arched a brow, eyes scanning the fine print.

"Veilstep Pendant…"

He exhaled again, slower this time.

'That's a get-out-of-hell token if I've ever seen one.'

His fingers instinctively reached toward the ghostly shape of the pendant before it faded and materialized inside his storage bracelet.

'If I ever get surrounded… or if someone tries to trap me in a dead zone, this is my last ticket out. As long as I've been to the location before, it'll work. That's priceless.'

"That's... one hell of a pull."

He sat in silence for a moment.

He slowly stood up, rotating his shoulders.

Then he put the pendant around his neck, the chain cold against his skin.

He muttered, "I'll think about the blank scroll and that pill later."

With a quiet breath, he turned away and exited the room.

And returned to his own room.

The silence of the academy halls at night was comforting.

Once inside, he stripped off the dusty clothes from the day, stepped into the bath, and let the warm water rinse away the exhaustion.

Steam curled around him as he leaned back, arms resting on the rim, eyes closed but mind restless.

Too many questions. Too many paths branching in every direction.

Eventually, after drying off, he emerged wearing nothing but his pants.

His well-toned torso gleamed faintly under the moonlight filtering through the window. He walked to his bed, dropped onto it with a solid thud, and exhaled.

Sleep took him fast.

The Next Morning

Kai woke early.

After washing his face and fixing his hair back into its usual low-maintenance style, he dressed in the academy uniform.

Without a word, he left the room and headed toward the canteen at the ground floor.

It was still early enough that the crowd hadn't peaked, but the murmur of voices and the scent of warm food had already filled the space.

Kai entered, grabbed a standard breakfast tray, eggs, bread, grilled meat strips, and tea and started scanning the tables for an empty spot.

Then he spotted them.

At a table near the far side of the hall sat Riven and Corrin, chatting animatedly.

Corrin laid back as always, leaned on one elbow while tearing into a meat-stuffed roll.

Riven was mid-laugh, waving a fork around like a sword.

Kai wasn't surprised to see those two together.

Their personalities were bound to click eventually, both loud, confident, and always ready to compare scars or boasts.

But it was the third person at their table that caught his eye.

White hair. Purple eyes. Elegant posture. That sharp elven calmness that always made others second-guess their words.

Sevyr.

The elf mage. And not the kind of guy you'd usually find mingling like this.

Kai slowed for half a second.

'Huh... Didn't expect that. Thought he was the brooding-quiet type, not the "let's chill with the jocks" kind.'

Before he could pass, Riven caught sight of him and waved with a wide grin. "OH! Brother! Come here!" he said patting the seat next to him.

Kai blinked, then gave a nod and walked over and took the open seat, setting his tray down without a word.

"Didn't expect to see you two up this early," Kai said, glancing between Riven and Corrin, voice casual.

Corrin smirked. "Well, the food disappears fast if you're late. And besides, this loudmouth, practically dragged me here, early."

"Correction, you promised to come spar at dawn. I just made sure you didn't skip again," Riven shot back, grinning as he took a bite.

'They are that good, pretty quickly.'

Kai raised a brow then looked at Riven and smirked.

'Well, I shouldn't be surprised by this guy's behavior. He acted like, he was by long lost buddy, though we just met once.'

Then Riven amused tone, dragged him out of his thoughts.

"And hey, it's good we came early. We found this guy here lurking in a corner."

Sevyr raised his cup lightly in greeting. "Hardly lurking. I was meditating. Unlike some people who start their mornings with noise and chaos."

Kai raised an eyebrow, intrigued but not judgmental. He took a bite of his food and asked lightly, "Didn't take you for the social type, Sevyr."

The elf shrugged smoothly. "Even I need to eat. Besides, watching these two guys squabble over what's better, swordplay or martial arts, is more entertaining than eating alone."

"You wound me," Riven said, dramatically holding his chest. "I merely pointed out that Corrin's footwork looks like a goat on ice when he's tired."

"Oh please," Corrin scoffed. "You flinched at one feint and now you're trying to save face."

Sevyr sipped his tea, completely unbothered.

Kai let out a low breath, half a chuckle, half exhale. He leaned back a little.

'Well… this is new.'

He wasn't much used to this. It wasn't tense, wasn't formal. Just… friendly banter.

Though, yeh, he had friends.

But they were only girls.

So, this was... different.

"Surprised you joined them so easily," Kai said to Sevyr, watching the elf with narrowed eyes.

Sevyr returned the look with that trademark smirk. "What can I say? I'm adaptable. You're all interesting in your own ways."

Kai didn't respond right away. He just went back to eating, chewing thoughtfully.

Riven grinned, eyes sparkling. "Then you'll love training with us. We're thinking of forming a loose team for academy drills, y'know? Tag duels, team sparring, small missions."

Kai paused mid-chew.

Then he leaned forward. "We'd be missing a fourth. This elf seems like joining. And honestly, you're a given. With your skillset and how you think… yeah, you'd round it out well."

Sevyr sipped his tea again, silent but clearly listening, didn't denying the idea.

Kai swallowed his bite and set the fork down.

"…Not interested," he said evenly.

Riven blinked. "Huh? Wait, why not?"

"I work alone," Kai said, picking up his cup. "Always have. Not really built for 'team synergy' or whatever nonsense the professors push."

Corrin narrowed his eyes. "You do realize this is a team-based academy, right?"

"I'm aware," Kai replied coolly. "But not everything needs to be done in groups. Especially when people get sloppy."

That subtle jab didn't go unnoticed.

Riven's brows twitched. "You think we're sloppy?"

Kai didn't answer. He just kept eating.

Corrin grinned like a fox who'd just found a weak spot. "Don't forget you got your ass kicked by me."

Kai scoffed mid-bite. "Hah. You were just lucky. I couldn't use my beasts."

Corrin leaned forward, elbows on the table, smug as hell. "Same here. I wasn't able to unleash my full strength either."

Kai raised an eyebrow. "Sure. Let's call it that."

That lit the spark.

The next few minutes were filled with light jabs.
