Chapter 159: Dorms and Rules
The academy dormitories were divided into two main sections, one for the top 50 students of each year, and another for the rest.
Each section was further split into boys' and girls' quarters, ensuring privacy and structure.
Kai walked alone through the polished corridors of the elite dormitory block, the one reserved for the top 50.
It was quieter here, more refined, with marble floors, polished brass lanterns, and a subtle magic woven into the walls for temperature control and soundproofing.
The dorm itself was vertically structured.
The topmost floor was exclusive to the Top 10 students, those ranked highest among their peers.
Beneath that, the next two floors were for students ranked 11 to 30 and 31 to 50 respectively.
Each floor grew slightly less lavish as one descended, though all were still better equipped than the standard dorms.
Kai ascended the stairwell to the top floor, his footsteps echoing softly against the stone steps.
This floor, unlike the others, granted its residents private rooms, custom-fitted with study chambers, mini training halls, and even small beast companion zones.
It was luxury built for excellence.
In addition to the personal space, the dormitory had its own dedicated training facilities, an indoor arena, meditation chambers, and elemental-controlled sparring rooms, all for the use of the top students.
At the base of the building was a private canteen, that always remained open, serving meals.
As Kai moved through the corridor, his steps fell quiet against the stone-tiled floor.
He reached his assigned room at the far end, door marked with a silver plaque etched with his name, and pushed it open with a gentle creak.
Inside, the space was modest yet refined.
A single bed sat against the left wall, draped in dark green and gold-accented sheets.
There was a broad desk tucked beneath a window that overlooked the training grounds below, and a spacious wardrobe stood to the side. A faint scent of polished wood and old parchment lingered in the air.
Kai's gaze fell on the bed.
There, resting neatly in the center of the sheets, was a small black box, cleanly sealed and bearing the academy's crest.
Curious, he stepped forward, sat at the edge of the bed, and opened the lid.
Inside lay a silver storage ring, a metallic card that shimmered a little.
Its shape and build looked similar to his adventurer's card, but this one was a bit sleeker.
Beside them was a handbook and a neatly folded note.
Kai picked up the note first and unfolded it.
"Welcome to Azurean Academy. The card included is your Academy ID and also functions as your personal account. The Academy uses its own internal currency system, and your monthly allowance has already been credited to it. To view your balance or use the card, simply channel your essence into it."
"The handbook contains everything you need to know—academy rules, campus layout, facilities, and elective subjects you'll be choosing from. Please make it a priority to read through it carefully. The first few days will shape your foundation here."
Kai lowered the note with a thoughtful hum, letting it rest on his lap.
Kai picked up the card, sleek and black, with golden-trimmed lines that shimmered faintly under the room's light.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, then followed the instructions from the note.
With a simple breath, he channeled a thread of his essence into the card.
A soft hum echoed in the air.
The card responded immediately, pulsing with a faint glow as golden lines lit up across its surface, like veins.
Then, clear text shimmered into view, floating just above the surface:
Name: Kai
C: 3000
Kai raised a brow, mildly surprised.
He turned the card over once, then put it carefully into his storage bracelet.
Then Kai picked up the handbook, its leather-bound cover bearing the academy's emblem etched in silver.
With a tired sigh, he dropped back onto the bed, resting his head against the pillow as he flipped it open.
The pages rustled softly.
It started with a welcome note, the usual overly polite crap bs that made him roll his eyes.
Then came the real stuff, the rules.
He skimmed through, letting the bolded lines sink in:
1. No Unauthorized Duels.
"Damn," Kai muttered, "there goes half the drama."
"Any challenge had to be approved and overseen by a faculty member. Random brawls in the hallway? Strictly off-limits. Repeat offenders could lose merit points or worse—get suspended from practical lessons.
2. No Entry into Restricted Zones.
There were places in the academy that students just weren't allowed to go, whether due to safety, classified research, or another reasons.
Trespassers would be dealt with harshly. The kind of harsh where people "took a break for a semester and never came back."
3. Respect Your Seniors and Professors.
"Sounds basic." Kai yawned.
But the note added that disrespecting an Ace or a faculty member wasn't just frowned upon, it could lead to public disciplinary hearings.
"Great."
4. Use of Training Grounds Requires Reservation.
Even the top students had to book their slots, though Aces had priority access. Of course.
5. No Summoning Beasts Inside Dormitories.
"Guess someone had a bad experience." He smirked.
Though, the beasts that were of smaller size are acceptable.
6. Breaking Curfew Without Clearance = Penalty.
Everyone had to be in their dorms by 10 PM unless attending special lessons or events.
The patrols weren't just human, either, some were enchanted golems or flying familiars.
7. Don't Abuse Academy Resources.
Things like potions, spell scrolls, and high-tier training equipment weren't free-use.
The academy monitored everything. You overused? You pay the price.
8. Do Not Engage in Forbidden Magic or Beast Practices.
This one had its own section. No necromancy, no beast mutilation experiments, no blood rituals, and definitely no trying to open forbidden gates or summon entities from abyss.
"Yeah… sounds like someone already tried that in the past."
Kai flipped a few more pages until he landed on a section titled "Curriculum & Subject Selection."
He blinked.
The entire spread was lined with cleanly divided charts and tables, trimmed with golden borders and tiny handwritten notes at the bottom.
'Someone took a lot of pride putting this together.'
He sat up straighter.
All students, regardless of their class, rank, or race, were required to take five core subjects.
Mandatory Subjects:
-Fundamentals of Mana & Essence Core
-Basic Combat
-History
-Strategic Thinking & Survival Adaptability
-Beastology Basics
Then came the elective system.
To be eligible for progression each semester, students had to pick at least four additional elective subjects.
They could take more, sure.
There was no upper limit.
But if you picked extra and failed them?
You'd be forced to retake them until you passed.
Some students apparently ended up stuck in their third semester for years because of that.
Kai tilted his head, tapping the page thoughtfully.
Still, it meant people like him could diversify. Learn beyond their class.
"Choose wisely," the note at the bottom read.
Then came the list.
Hundreds of subject names, some bolded, some marked with asterisks, some written in gold ink denoting high difficulty or elite access.
But Kai's eyes only paused at a few-
-Dual Weapon Mastery (Basic-Intermediate)
-Intermediate Anatomy
-Intermediate Beast Mastery
-Trap Engineering & Counter
-Toxin Craft
-Psychological Warfare & Interrogation Tactics
-Terrain Manipulation
-Applied Stealth & Urban Infiltration
– Sword Forms of the Eastern Archons
–Exotic Beast Handling
– Rune Crafting
– Noble Conduct & Etiquette
– Skyborne Combat (Requires wind-type affinity or aerial beast)
'Damn cool,' he thought but, it was out of his league. For now.
Kai dragged his thumb over the corner of the page.
There was so much here.
Kai closed the book with a soft thud.
Then he exhaled a long breath he hadn't realized he was holding.
"There's still much time left, will choose them later."
He laid back onto the bed, arms splayed for a moment, staring at the ceiling with tired, half-lidded eyes.
The glow from the wall lanterns dimmed into a comfortable warmth, the silence wrapping around him like a gentle blanket.
Reaching to his side, he slid the handbook back into the box, then placed the whole thing carefully on the small table beside the bed.
His fingers moved lazily to his chest, loosening the academy blazer and slipping it off with little ceremony.
His boots followed next, he half-kicked them away, one after another, and they thumped against the floor with satisfying dull thuds.
Then finally, he rolled over, burying his face into the soft, cool pillows.
The scent was unfamiliar.
Clean, crisp linen, probably washed with something herbal, but strangely comforting.
And for the first time in what felt like weeks… he let go.
No need to stay alert.
No sleeping with a dagger under the pillow. No checking the window twice. Just stillness.
Then. Sleep claimed him fast.
