Chapter 152: Trials [29] [End]
Corrin split into three afterimages.
Ivy slashed through one. Then another. The real Corrin appeared above, twisting in midair.
"Sorry, kitty."
His blade came down.
Clang!
Aria blocked with a wind-forged barrier—but the force knocked her to her knees.
She gritted her teeth, eyes flashing, and threw her arm out.
A gust burst forth, launching Corrin back a few feet.
He landed cleanly, boots skidding over cracked earth, and dashed in again without pause.
Aria met him with twin wind blades—fast, graceful, like dancing currents.
Ivy dashed forward too, snow whirling, the hare's body glowing with aura.
Aria spun, throwing a razor-wind arc.
Corrin dodged low, sliding beneath it, and came up with a horizontal slash—
Slash!
A single arc. Frosty yelped.
The snow hare tumbled, limp.
Its glow faded into glittering mist.
Aria's eyes widened. Her scream followed a burst of wind that shook the clearing.
She fired another. Then another.
Corrin blurred between them, faster than her tracking.
He was suddenly close, again.
Crack!
The hilt of his blade struck her ribs. Aria gasped, stumbling to one knee.
Her breath hitched, pain flashing across her face.
"Enough," Corrin muttered. He raised his blade—
Then brought it down.
And.
Aria turned into white motes.
Just as the wind faded, a low rumble rolled through the clearing.
Seyvr moved.
The towering wall of stone split open.
Earth crumbled around him as he stepped through the gap, clothes slightly torn, eyes calm and unreadable.
His hands glowed, spinning with circular glyphs that radiated crimson red flames.
Across from him, Arven had already taken a stance, one foot forward, polearm held low.
"Finally, decided to come out of your pit, little ratty," he taunted.
But the latter didn't respond.
He just locked his eyes to Arven's.
Then.
Seyvr moved at first.
A sigil pulsed, and flames surged up around him. He raised his palm—
[Sunveil Sigil]
A golden shield erupted just in time to block Arven's sudden lunge.
The polearm struck with force and precision, sparks flaring on impact.
Arven twisted, kicked off the barrier, and landed to the side, coming in again with a sweeping strike.
But Seyvr's fingers had already drawn the next circle.
[Solar Vortex!]
The ground erupted in a fiery spiral.
BOOM!
Arven vanished inside it. A roar of flame swallowed the area—and from the center, a figure burst out, cloak singed, teeth bared in a snarl.
Arven dashed in again, faster than before.
But.
Too late.
[Sunpierce Ray!]
A golden beam surged upward from a glyph beneath Arven's boots.
Crack!
It hit him dead in the chest. His eyes went wide as he was flung back, flipping once in the air before crashing into a tree.
Thud!
His weapon slipped from his hand.
Clang!
His body slumped.
Whoosh!
Then turned into motes as a sword pierced through the space where he had been lying.
Seyvr blinked, then exhaled slowly.
His gaze flicked toward Corrin, who stood watching, but it didn't linger.
Because something else stirred.
Smoke.
Movement.
Then—
Nothing.
Seyvr's brow furrowed.
But before he could ponder.
Whoosh!
Kai moved.
Seyvr's, eyes narrowed as he turned right.
But he wasn't fast enough.
[Thunderclap!]
A curved strike raked across his back. Seyvr stumbled, spun—
[Phantom Slash!]
A dagger met his ribs, but he blocked with creating gauntlets of stones.
Sparks danced as Seyvr was pushed back.
Kai emerged from the smoke like a shadow, both daggers in hand, eyes sharp despite the wounds on his body.
His breathing was ragged, blood soaked his shirt, but his stance remained stable.
Seyvr's hands moved.
But—
Kai didn't let him finish.
He dashed in, zigzagging, blurring through residual smoke.
A dagger flew, Seyvr knocked it away with his fireball.
Kai appeared on his right.
Seyvr's palm lit with flame.
Kai ducked under, twisted—
Slash!
He caught Seyvr's leg. A spark of lightning surged.
"Argh!"
Seyvr grunted, retreating.
A glyph formed midair—
[Radiant Wall]
Kai struck it with a flying kick and bounced off, rolling and leaping back into smoke.
[Ghost Steps!]
Then he vanished again.
Seyvr's eyes narrowed. He traced three glyphs in rapid succession—
[Flame Lure!]
[Pulse Burn!]
[Sunseal Detonation!]
The ground flashed gold. Explosions burst in a radius around him, burning away the mist.
Trees sizzled. Smoke turned to ash.
From above—
[Thunderclap!]
Kai dropped down, daggers cloaked in electric energy, aiming straight for Seyvr's shoulders.
Seyvr raised a palm—
And.
Lightning met flame.
BOOM!
Both were thrown back.
Thud!
Kai hit the ground and rolled. Seyvr slid across scorched dirt, glyphs sputtering around him.
They both stood slowly.
"Haa... haaa... "
Breathing heavy.
Wounded.
Kai wiped blood from his mouth.
Seyvr's gaze hardened.
Another glyph began forming behind him.
But before he could finish it—
Corrin stepped forward.
Seyvr turned, violet eyes narrowing.
Kai tensed, daggers still humming with electric charge.
The air between them burned with tension.
"Had enough of watching?" Kai asked, voice sharp.
Corrin didn't answer immediately. He just twirled his blade once, then rested it lightly on his shoulder. "You two looked like you were having fun. Figured I'd let you tire each other out."
He shifted his gaze to Seyvr. "But you didn't go down. Annoying."
"And you're still talking," Seyvr said coldly.
Whoosh!
Corrin vanished.
Kai reacted first, dodging left—
Corrin's blade met Seyvr's arm, slicing into flesh. Blood sprayed.
Seyvr grimaced but retaliated, slamming a glyph into Corrin's chest.
[Solar Detonation!]
BOOM!
Corrin was thrown back, straight into Kai, who ducked low, flipped his dagger into a reverse grip, and slashed.
Clang!
Corrin twisted mid-fall and blocked with his bracer, then kicked off Kai's chest, flipping backward onto his feet.
All three of them now stood in a loose triangle.
Breathing ragged.
But not backing down.
Seyvr spat blood.
Corrin grinned.
Kai narrowed his eyes.
The tension in the stands was all time high, crowd's shook the entire stadium.
Just as the announcer promised them, it was a heck of a match.
And now, was at its climax.
Then all of them calmed down at once and held their breath as.
All three of them moved at once.
Corrin blurred left, cutting across the field in a low dash.
Seyvr traced a glyph combo—
Kai leapt upward,
[Falcon's Sight!]
Eyes locking onto every movement below.
Then he perched on a branch and.
[Ghost steps!]
He vanished.
Corrin saw it, eyes flicking up.
But Seyvr unleashed his glyph—
[Sunburst Collapse!]
An orb of light exploded outward from his chest, forcing both Kai and Corrin to disengage as the air turned molten.
Kai reappeared above Corrin.
His twin daggers primed. But, Corrin sidestepped, elbowed him midair, spun, and—
Slash!
Kai hit the ground hard, skidding into a crater.
Corrin turned.
Too late.
[Solar Rift!]
A vertical beam of light pierced the air, slamming into Corrin's chest.
He flew back, smashing through a tree.
Seyvr strode forward, summoning another glyph.
But Kai was already up.
[Ghost Steps!]
He vanished, then re-appeared behind Seyvr with a double strike.
Seyvr spun and parried with an Earth wall mid-air.
Kai twisted mid-fall, landed on one palm, and pushed off—
[Thunderclap!]
A crackling burst blasted Seyvr backward.
He landed rough.
Just in time to see Corrin rising from the smoke.
His chest was scorched. One eye shut from blood.
But his smile remained.
"Aaaarghh!"
Corrin roared, aura flaring black.
He shot forward.
Kai and Seyvr both turned as Corrin leapt between them.
A rising arc toward Kai.
A sweeping choke toward Seyvr.
Clang! Thwack!
"Argh," They blocked, barely.
Kai twisted, planting a kick on Corrin's hip.
Seyvr blasted a glyph point-blank.
Corrin flipped, dodging midair, then.
[Final Drive!]
He spun into a drilling strike, blade glowing crimson.
It hit both—
CRACK!!
Seyvr's earth wall shattered.
Kai's daggers were knocked clean from his hands.
The explosion kicked up a shockwave that leveled trees for twenty meters.
Silence fell upon the clearing.
Smoke raised in the air.
Then—
Corrin stumbled forward, panting. His blade dripped with blood. His eyes scanned the wreckage.
Kai had already vanished, turning into motes of white enegry.
Seyvr slumped, took few steps forward, but then—
Puff!
Turned into motes.
Corrin exhaled.
Then—
Thud!
Fell to his knees.
"...That," he rasped, "was fucking awesome."
The crowed outside roared, cheering on the last man standing, some unhappy and envious, that their friends, children couldn't make it.
Though at the end of they, they were mostly satisfied.
But amidst that noise, no one noticed one thing.
The announcer never declared, that the trial was over.
"Haa… Haa…"
Corrin panted, one hand clutching his side, the other holding his blade. His knees trembled, and just as he was about to stand up.
The hair around his neck stood to no end.
His instincts screamed and he dove backward—
Whoosh!
A series of translucent wind blades tore through the space he'd just been.
His eyes widened.
And just as he was about to react.
Creeak!
From the soles of his boots to the tips of his hair, his body froze—
Encased in a rising bloom of glimmering crystal.
Gasps rippled through the stands.
The roaring crowd fell to stunned silence.
Eyes blinked, confused.
Mouths hung open.
Then, from atop a tree near the edge of the battlefield—
Two sharp, emerald eyes gleamed.
A lone figure sat lazily on a high branch, legs swinging with casual rhythm.
Long green hair fluttered in the breeze.
A small, misty white spirit wolf lay curled in her lap.
SNAP!
She snapped her fingers.
CRACK! CRACK!
The crystal imprisoning Corrin began to split—fracturing from within.
Then—
Puff!
Corrin turned into motes of white and vanished.
The girl tilted her head, smiling faintly.
"Well… that wasn't so hard," she said softly, her voice light and amused.
The spirit wolf nuzzled her hand. She giggled and ruffled its head.
"This marks the end of the trials."
The announcer's voice crackled back into existence.
"AND THERE YOU HAVE IT, FOLKS!"
A beat of silence.
Then—
"WE HAVE OUR ACE OF THE YEAR!!!"
