Chapter 451 Shen Yan
Thousand Lanterns City, west side of the small courtyard's sky well.
Sitting at a round stone table, Chen Mu had a clump of River of Oblivion water and a lump of dark flame floating in front of him.
More than ten different colored dipping saucers were arranged at the edge of the table, while a piece of deer-antlered black goat meat the size of a human head was placed in the center.
His right hand's index finger emitted a miserable green Qi Blade that shot out like a fine thread. A corner of the black goat meat disappeared, in the blink of an eye turning into countless slices as thin as cicada wings.
The meat slices soared into the air and passed swiftly through the River of Oblivion water, instantly softening the resilient, armor-like Exotic Beast Meat slices. Then after tumbling in the black flames, a rich scent of meat spread out immediately.
Lightly dabbing some bright red sauce, the grilled meat's aroma mixed with spiciness assaulted his taste buds, making Chen Mu squint his eyes uncontrollably.
"Delicious!"
Tasting the more than ten kinds of sauces one by one and occasionally sipping the plum juice-flavored Replenishing Origin Soup to cut through the greasiness, the large piece of deer-antlered black goat meat was quickly finished.
Tilting his head back to gulp down the Replenishing Origin Soup from the stone cup, Chen Mu let out a sigh and his face bore a satisfied smile, "This is what living is all about!"
He yearned for a life of eating and drinking daily and gaining experience, but ever since he had arrived in the Netherworld, he had been on edge, never having a single day of comfort. Now, with Thousand Lanterns City as his safe haven, that constantly uneasy heart of his was finally at peace.
"Just eating meat gets a bit monotonous." Chen Mu stood up from the stone table and walked toward the west side of the courtyard, near a patch of ridged fields.
The field was five meters long and three meters wide, a vegetable garden he had only recently started. Four or five white lanterns hung on stone columns, surrounding the field, and kept the area well-lit.
"The Soul-Attracting Lamp brings light; Netherworld Jade Dew provides moisture; Beyond Heaven soil acts as a warm bed; plus seeds from the Yang Realm, these conditions are pretty much unmatched anywhere," Chen Mu said with a cheerful squat at the edge of the field, looking carefully.
Before long, he spotted a tender yellow-green sprout quietly poking through the soil next to two green bean-sized lumps of earth.
"Tsk... it actually worked?" Chen Mu burst into a smile almost immediately.
…
Inside the Secret Chamber.
De Chun curiously examined the five stone pillars covered with patterns against the wall.
"Brother Chen, I've noticed that I can no longer hear what's happening inside the Secret Chamber; these pillars..."
"Want to know?" Chen Mu's lips curved slightly.
This was a minor Light Law Prohibition, particularly good at camouflage and concealment. With it sealing the Secret Chamber, it would be strange if you could hear anything.
"I'll tell you, but do you dare to hear it?" Chen Mu teased with a grin.
De Chun immediately shook his head, "Forget it, better if I don't know!"
"Just think of it as one of my Divine Skills." Taking a True Flesh Body as a True Form of a Heavenly Demon's Divine Skill wasn't really an issue, was it?
"It can seal away the aura. With it here, the Underground Secret Chamber has no risk of being discovered," Chen Mu said with confidence.
Given his current level of the Truthful Listening Technique, even he couldn't see through the disguise of the Forbidden Law. Back in the Lower Courtyard by the Gan River, it was only by fluke that Mo Wuzhou found it.
"Deep within the Secret Chamber beneath the ground, with the Law's camouflage, unless someone literally stumbles into it, there's absolutely no risk of being found!"
Before De Chun could express his admiration, a light 'pfft' sound suddenly made the chamber's floor bulge into a small mound of earth.
Without warning, the mound exploded, and a shadow darted out, with a tall, thin figure in a black robe appearing before them.
De Chun rigidly turned his neck, looking bewilderedly at Chen Mu.
Wasn't it just said to be absolutely undiscoverable?
Chen Mu had an equally baffled expression on his face.
I have no idea either.
How on earth did a person just suddenly pop out of the ground here?
…
"Indeed, something is off here!" Shen Yan glanced at Chen Mu and De Chun standing there with their mouths agape, and walked over to examine one of the pillars himself.
"Were you a Qi Cultivator in your lifetime?" He looked at Chen Mu with a hint of astonishment, "For a Qi Cultivator to reincarnate in the Netherworld is extremely rare."
Shen Yan turned his head and surveyed the Secret Chamber, nodding with satisfaction, "Do you know who I am?"
Chen Mu and De Chun shook their heads in unison.
"I am Shen Yan."
"The Military Supervisor? Aren't you..." De Chun's face showed astonishment.
"Attacked and killed by a Water Ape?" Shen Yan curled his lip, "Just Lan Zhang's ghost trick."
"Want to know?" He looked at them playfully, "I dare to tell, but do you dare to listen?"
Chen Mu's expression stiffened.
Why does that line sound so familiar?
"Why bother telling you so much anyway," Shen Yan shook his head, disinterested.
"I like this Secret Chamber; I'm taking it."
"Starting tomorrow, you'll build a Secret Chamber like this for me."
"I need you to construct seven of these chambers around the camp, each slightly larger than this one but secrecy is of utmost importance."
"Got it clear?" Shen Yan looked indifferently at Chen Mu.
Chen Mu pointed at himself, bewildered, "Me?"
"Isn't this secret chamber something you dug out yourself? Of course, I'm talking about you!" Shen Yan's brows furrowed, and he stared at Chen Mu with an unmistakable displeasure on his face.
"I'm advising you to listen obediently, or else don't blame me... Eh? Eh? Eh?"
He hadn't finished his sentence when suddenly, he uncontrollably soared into the air, executed a mid-air split, and smack, fell to the ground. His face throbbed from the impact.
Chen Mu squinted at the other man: "Or else, what were you planning to do?"
Who do you think you're ordering around?
Coming here and trying to boss everyone around.
Want me to dig a secret chamber?
You might as well do a split yourself first!
...
"I ask, you answer, got it?" Chen Mu squinted as he looked at Shen Yan.
Shen Yan's eyes twitched violently, and he glared at Chen Mu while grinding his teeth: "You little rat! I'd advise you to behave or... Agh!"
He hadn't finished speaking when suddenly his upper body fell heavily towards his right leg, the pain so intense his face turned beet red.
Then he abruptly stood up, about to let out a furious curse, when his upper body swished down towards his left leg.
Hiss...
A series of gasps for air echoed within the secret chamber.
Chen Mu looked at Shen Yan, who was twitching in the face and gasping sharply. He couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement.
"Even if you turned into a ghost, doing the splits would still hurt, wouldn't it."
Shi Dechun, who was beside him, gave Chen Mu a resentful glance. So, you knew splits are painful, huh.
Chen Mu, smiling cheerfully, looked at Shen Yan with his face red and neck thick: "I ask, you answer, got it?"
"Understood... Ah!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Shen Yan's upper body once again pressed down towards his right leg.
Admitting defeat so quickly?
I didn't even have time to react!
Feeling embarrassed internally, Chen Mu outwardly maintained his composure and quietly activated the Yama Emperor's Command, making Shen Yan with his bitter face stand up.
"How did you find this place?" Chen Mu asked.
"My divine skills specialize in listening to sounds. I can hear even the slightest rustle in the camp," Shen Yan simply admitted.
"I heard that among the Flame Moving Division's Yi Three Banners, there was an auxiliary soldier surnamed Jia, who could condense River of Oblivion Water yet escaped Lan Zhang's capture. Some suspected he might be concealing his divine skills, so I intended to find that person."
"After listening to the Yi Three Banner's camp whispers for several days, his sudden silence after tunneling underground caught me by surprise." He explained, turning to look at Shi Dechun.
"I felt something was off here, it might be useful to avoid my search, so I followed and ended up here."
Hidden so well that even Shi Dechun's entry underground silenced the sound, leading Shen Yan to discover this place?
Isn't this just terribly unlucky?
Chen Mu couldn't help but grimace.
"Was the auxiliary soldier's disappearance really not due to a Water Macaque's attack?" Shi Dechun, who had been listening all along, suddenly asked.
"That was just a diversion. It was actually Lan Zhang's doing, he's the one who destroyed the entire Netherworld Squad.
"He was afraid I would use the auxiliary soldier's power to invoke the River of Oblivion's force to make contact with the Netherworld, so he carried out the arrests on those auxiliary soldiers."
Chen Mu's brows creased involuntarily.
He hadn't expected the so-called Water Macaque's ambush from before was actually a result of internal strife within the Hai Character Camp.

The man before him was a disaster!
Hand this guy over?
Chen Mu couldn't help but size up Shen Yan.
Feeling Chen Mu's gaze, Shen Yan's eyelids began to twitch uncontrollably: "Don't even think about handing me over to Lan Zhang."
"Lan Zhang has already sided with the Nether Demon Heaven. Even if you hand me over to Lan Zhang, it won't end well for you."
"On the contrary, in order to keep his secrets safe, he might even kill you to silence you!"
What does that mean?
Has the military supervisor of the Hai Character Camp colluded with the Red-eyed Water Macaque?
Then what the hell are we still fighting for?
Chen Mu's expression turned solemn.
If he couldn't hand him over, and since this guy had also seen the Yama Emperor's Command...
Indeed, it's better to get rid of him once and for all!
Chen Mu narrowed his eyes.
Noticing Chen Mu's gaze, Shen Yan couldn't help but feel a chill in his heart.
