Chapter 681: King of 500 Years
Divine Power Tianyang suddenly sensed some discordant tones in the music.
The continuous melody drifting in the stratosphere seemed to be disrupted by some external force, becoming discordant.
It wasn't a sudden, abrupt high note, but rather another short melody mixed into the main melody, altering the tune.
He walked to the window and gazed at the sky. At this moment, the entity burning fiercely high above opened its eyes. Four golden pupils scanned the Earth's high orbit, and any sound, ray, and airflow were visible before his eyes, with colorful spectrums echoing through the universe.
Meanwhile, Lin Yan and the White King were leading everyone away from the center of the battle in a fictional world.
She saw clouds gathering, lightning striking down, and dragons flying overhead, knowing the battle must be intense. However, this chaos didn't last long. The village was split in two by a whip formed from condensed atmosphere, and a deep trench appeared on the ground, causing many to be turned into bloodthirsty mud. Villagers cried out, running towards the castle, while the lord's guards were dispatched, striving to settle the villagers.
The miniaturized White King grabbed Lin Yan's arm, saying, "Quick, let's go."
Lin Yan shook her head, saying, "Fujiwara hasn't returned yet!"
"She might not be able to come back," the White King replied.
Just then, Wei Tianyang descended from the sky, holding Fujiwara Makoto, startling Lin Yan into shivering. She focused her gaze to see Wei Tianyang emanating a faint purple magical glow, while Fujiwara Makoto in his arms had pale lips and a bloodless complexion, with half of her body covered in blood and a large bloody hole pierced through her right collarbone, the skin and flesh turned inside out, looking excruciatingly painful.
Lin Yan hurriedly went up to assist Fujiwara Makoto, carefully examining the illusion-created Wei Tianyang before her. He looked around his early 20s, and although expressionless, his brows carried a hint of arrogance, or a sense of discontentment.
This was quite different from the Wei Tianyang she had known in Heisai State, where she had seen someone with a facade full of hypocrisy and a condescending smirk, treating everyone like ants.
Maybe he wasn't like this from the beginning; this world changed him, and then, he changed the world.
"The injuries are severe... but she won't die. Quickly, find a safe place... Cha Na... killed everyone, and nothing in this world can stop it..." Fujiwara Makoto said with a ghastly face and then collapsed in Lin Yan's arms. At the same time, the illusion-created Wei Tianyang disintegrated into purple light dust.
"Is there any way to deal with it?!" Lin Yan asked the White King.
"This world is created; we can control the passage of time in this world and trap it within," the White King replied.
Lin Yan understood what the White King meant; there was no need for verbal communication between them.
Altering the flow of time in this world meant letting Cha Na experience decades or centuries here, which for them might only pass in a few seconds.
"Is it useful? Is he eternal? Won't he die of old age?" Lin Yan asked.
"We can only try," the White King replied.
With that, the White King opened a portal, transferring everyone to the Illusion Dream Core.
At this point, Lin Yan approached the cliff edge and looked toward the sea of clouds, only to see a pitch-black space beneath, with countless starlights flickering.
"What's below?" Lin Yan asked.
"The end of dreams, it's my subconscious where the abandoned worlds remain. Every flickering star is a world, and if I eventually forget them, the stars will extinguish," the White King replied.
As he spoke, with a wave of his hand, the dark space began to shimmer with brilliance, and Lin Yan saw the landscape of that magical world again. It was like a checkerboard land, with a hemispherical sky. The sun and moon moved slowly across the sky, taking turns to illuminate this world with a round sky and flat ground.
"How is this possible... I didn't design this world like this!" Lin Yan exclaimed in surprise.
"The dream world evolves on its own; we can't control 100% of the developments within the dream," the White King replied.
It squinted its seven red eyes, and at this moment, the sun, moon, and stars in the sky began to alternate rapidly, shortening a day's time and speeding up progressively until several months passed in this world within a second.
"What is the time in that world now?" Lin Yan was worried that by 2137, it might trigger a Time Stranding.
The White King shook its head, saying, "Only 200 years have passed; there's plenty of time in this world."
Relieved, Lin Yan continued to observe.
The acceleration of time was relative; for Lin Yan and the White King, about half a year passed each second in this world, but for those living within this world, their perceived time was unchanged, experiencing life, aging, illness, and death over generations as old castles decayed and new ones were built. In an instant, a centralized kingdom emerged, expanding in power, starting from a small, isolated castle in the northern most snowy area of the continent, becoming a super empire covering the whole continent.
Subsequently, no matter how much time passed, this scenario remained unchanged.
"500 years have already passed, and this world has stopped developing. The current timeline is now the year 1378," the White King stated.
In Lin Yan's mind appeared a brief simulation of this world's development.
This world took more than 600 years from the appearance of Homo sapiens to the castle era.
Then, it took 220 years from the castle era to the Magician era.
During the following 500-plus years, a mysterious white-haired wanderer appeared...
He annihilated the magicians, conquered castle after castle, and established his kingdom...
From then on, the world entered the "Sword Era," which continues to this day.
Lin Yan shook her head, saying, "It... it has lived in this world for so many years... It might be immortal."
The White King replied, "We can trap it indefinitely."
"What's the price? What is the cost?" Lin Yan asked.
She knew well that they could repeatedly reset time, leaving Cha Na forever in this fictional world, living as a solitary king.
However, this would also shut down the possibility of simulating a New World; the White King can only have one dream at a time.
This is hardly helpful for changing the real world's situation, and trying to lure Divine Power Tianyang and his other knights into it is filled with too many variables and great difficulties. Perhaps at the first encounter, they might be crushed. Cha Na being trapped here is just a coincidence.
"If we restart this world... will it disappear with it?" Lin Yan suddenly asked.
The White King shook its head, indicating uncertainty.
Lin Yan said, "Restart."
