Chapter 100– Heliana Arc (11) Monster
The air twisted around him, heat and shadow folding into each other, until even the battlefield itself seemed to recoil. Kaen's body burned like a torch of voidflame, veins glowing a sickly violet, jagged wings of fractured shadow fanning wide.
His scream shook the world.
The cursed terrain shattered beneath his feet as he lunged not with technique, not with finesse, but with the sheer inevitability of a falling star.
Sythen's tendrils snapped forward to impale him.
Kaen's hand ripped through them like wet paper. Black ichor splattered the air.
"What—!?" Sythen's eyes widened.
Kaen was already there. His fist smashed into her face with such force the impact rang like a gong. The Cursed Lord staggered, her cheekbone fracturing, voidlight searing her flesh.
She snarled, recovering midair, shadows writhing to coil around him.
But Kaen didn't even flinch. His wings flared, shredding her binds in an eruption of shade-fire.
Rael, pinned to the ground, coughed blood as he watched.
(Damnit… Kaen… you idiot… you're burning everything. You'll consume yourself from it… tsk.)
Kaen roared, a guttural, monstrous sound, and his next strike tore a canyon through the battlefield. Stone, shadow, and cursed fire erupted outward, hurling Sythen hundreds of meters away.
"As expected…" Sythen hissed, forcing her jaw back into place with a sickening crack. Her lip dripped void-ichor, her regal composure gone, replaced by fury.
"…You are that Shinrei I sensed… That voidborn. Stronger… similar to the Hollow Nine… What are you, brat!?"
Kaen didn't answer. His eyes glowed like empty furnaces, no words, only rage.
His hand snapped forward, and the world darkened. The cursed lord's shadow defenses collapsed as Kaen appeared above her, slamming her into the ground with a fist that detonated like a meteor strike.
The shockwave incinerated the cursed vines for miles. Lira's Bloom Barrier barely held, the petals shattering under the pressure as she shielded herself and Rael.
Sythen screamed as her form cracked under the assault, her arrogance shattered along with her mask of calm.
"You… filthy… little WRETCH!!"
But Kaen was relentless. He pummeled her again and again, fists like cannons, each strike shaking the cursed domain itself. There was no hesitation. No humanity. Only the Voidborn's hunger for destruction.
Rael dragged himself up, his hand clutching Seraphis, his voice breaking.
"Kaen!! That's enough! You'll lose yourself—do you hear me!? DAMN IT!!"
But Kaen did not hear.
His roar thundered across the battlefield. His cursed wings spread wider, blotting out even Sythen's eclipse shadow. And with one final, devastating blow, he hurled the Curse Lord through her own domain wall, tearing reality itself as the battlefield split under the Voidborn's wrath.
Silence followed. The kind that comes after a storm, heavy and unnatural.
Only Kaen's ragged breathing echoed in the ruin. His body trembled, void-flame still leaking from the seal across his chest.
Lira whispered, tears streaking her bloodied cheeks.
"…Kaen…"
But the one standing there was no longer Kaen.
Only the monster the world had tried to bury.
As Sythen's broken form dragged itself from the crater, her body steaming with void ichor, bones cracking as her shadows knit themselves back together. Her face was twisted—not the poised arrogance of a lord, but raw, undiluted rage.
Her voice tore through the ruin like thunder:
"I am one of the Seven Deadly Sin… one of the Cursed Lords, for damn sake!! There is no way I'm going to lose to some bratty little worm like you!!"
Her Shinrei exploded, black eclipses blooming in the sky, her jealousy manifesting as a thousand hateful eyes staring down upon the battlefield. The cursed domain rebuilt itself in fury, thorned walls of shadow rising again around them.
But Kaen… did not care.
The Voidborn's breathing was ragged, animalistic, his claws curling at his sides as the seal across his chest pulsed violently. Flames of shade and crimson spiraled off him, and for a moment, he looked less like a man and more like an avatar of the void.
Rael gritted his teeth, blood running from his lips.
(She's serious now… Kaen, if you keep this up… you'll kill her. But you'll kill yourself too. Damnit! Why is it always you, loser!?)
Sythen raised her hands, glyphs of void hate spinning behind her like twin eclipses.
" Thousand Glares of Envy!!"
A storm of spears, each a jagged shard of shadow-eyes, rained down toward Kaen. The ground dissolved wherever they struck, screaming as reality itself cracked apart.
Kaen looked up at them. His cursed wings flared wide.
And then he roared.
The blast of his voice alone shattered half the barrage. His body blurred, erupting forward with speed beyond even Rael's Seraphis. With one sweep of his arm, Kaen tore through the rest, the Voidborn's corruption devouring Sythen's attack like it was nothing.
Sythen's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Impossible—this power… this resonance… it's like the Hollow Nine themselves…"
Kaen appeared before her in a blink, voidfire burning across his face, his eyes hollow with hate. His fist drew back, trembling with unstoppable force.
"…Rrrrraaaaaghhh!!!"
The monster the world tried to bury was about to tear a Cursed Lord apart.
Then Sythen shrieked as Kaen's claw tore across her face, blood and shadow spraying into the fractured air.
"Damn brat!!!" she screamed, but her words were drowned in the Voidborn's roar.
Kaen lunged again, a blur of corrupted wings and flame. His fist slammed into her stomach, bending her in half, the impact rupturing the very ground beneath them. She gagged black ichor and was hurled through a wall of her own cursed domain.
Before she could catch breath, Kaen was already upon her.
"Raaawrrr!!!"
His growl was primal, his blows relentless. He seized her by the throat, dragging her across the battlefield like a ragdoll, then smashed her into the ground again and again—each strike leaving craters that bled voidlight.
Her eclipse shadow sputtered, collapsing in broken fragments. Her jealous aura, once suffocating, now flickered desperately like a dying flame.
"N-no… impossible… I am Sythen, Cursed Lord of Jealousy… I am Sin incarnate! I cannot—"
Her protest was silenced as Kaen's clawed hand slammed into her chest, tearing through flesh and shadow alike. She coughed blood, eyes wide, her once-beautiful form broken and trembling under his grip.
Rael staggered forward, teeth clenched, Seraphis pulsing at his side. His vision blurred, but his thoughts burned clear:
(Kaen… you bastard… are you really going to become a Voidborn? Are you just going to let yourself be swallowed by that curse? Damnit, don't you dare leave us to clean up this mess… don't you dare.)
But Kaen didn't hear him.
The seal across his chest flared, voidfire ripping skyward. His hollow gaze bore down on the Curse Lord as if she were less than an insect.
Sythen's final scream rattled through the battlefield—then ended in silence as Kaen drove her into the earth with a final, devastating strike that shattered her cursed body and extinguished her eclipse.
A lord of Sin… reduced to nothing more than rubble beneath the hands of a monster.
And Kaen still wasn't stopping.
The battlefield was nothing but smoke and ruin, the air trembling under the residue of Kaen's voidrage.
Rael coughed blood, barely able to stand, his blade flickering. Lira's petals had already wilted, her Bloom Resonance breaking apart under the weight of despair.
Then—
"What's going on here?!"
A clear voice cut through the carnage.
All eyes snapped toward the shattered ridge. Standing there, cloak torn by wind, black hair whipping across sharp black eyes was Khael Corzedar.
And he wasn't alone.
Behind him, Ceyla Nox, her storm affinity crackling faint arcs across her hands, eyes narrowed in disbelief. Beside her, Juno Arkai, steady as a stone, stance grounded like the master of Taishin Gates he was. And behind them, the rest of the team, tense but ready.
Rael's head tilted back, his expression caught somewhere between annoyance and relief.
"You're here… Khael. Tsk."
Lira staggered to her feet, hand clutching her chest, her voice fragile but resolute.
"Your assumption was right, Khael… There really is another one. Aside from the Eclipse of Wrath…"
Her gaze fell on Kaen, still shaking, wings dripping voidfire, Sythen's mangled form barely twitching beneath his shadow.
For a heartbeat, the wind carried nothing but silence.
Then Khael's eyes narrowed, and the Dragon Knight's blood within him stirred.
