Chapter 82: Exploration-4
Cyra just sighed and gave Milo one last look before asking him if he was sure about being the bait. The kid who was barely an adult had such resolve, if she really refused him it would be disrespecting his wishes.
She also trusted his judgement after all among all five kids, he seemed be the most mature with a good head on his shoulder. If it was Jake who was a little hot headed, she would have firmly opposed his decision but Milo could handle it at least that's what she hoped with everything fiber of her being.
If he really got hurt or lost his life under her watch she wouldn't be able to fogive herself for the rest of her life!
" Are you completely sure about it? You never faced these creatures before, they are cunning and manipulative. They would wait for you to ambush even using you as bait to draw me out. This means that if you got hurt, they would keep you alive as long as possible even torturing you so they you would scream to call for help. Unlike humans they don't have any humanity in them even if they look like us to some extent. It would be a harrowing experience." Cyra urged him to reconsider one last time telling him about the dangers.
These small bipedal monsters were infamous for their cruelty. Cyra wouldn't be able to help because she would be on the other side of the forest by the time he creates the distraction.
She could only contact him through the radio to know if he was safe or not. If he did get captured, it was worse than death. If they drag him to their base, she wouldn't be able to rescue him and he would die a miserable death that was a certainty.
" I am sure. Don't worry, I learned few tricks from teacher, they wouldn't be able to follow me. You just have to stick to the route and don't worry about me. I will be waiting for you to return. By the way, these are some of the things that you could use for surveillance. I don't know how well they work but they seem to be able to record images for a longer period of time." Milo pulled out a small camera that could be mounted on the chest.
It was something Noah gave to the kids for emergency. If the battle got too dangerous and they didn't have a way out, he would at least try to recover this peace of equipment to know what really happened.
Through it he could also know who was responsible for it. It was for that scenario but knowing what it did, Milo just tied it around Cyra's protective gear.
He never saw how the images would look but Noah did give him some detail description but never showed them any advange technology. Firstly, he didn't want it to happen and secondly, at that time, he wasn't willing to expose his powes of summoning.
" Well, alright. Just take care of yourself okay? And notify me as soon as you are safe. I will be listening. " She taped the small radio in her ear before leaving.
She knew there was nothing she could say that would make his job easier. It was a sucide mission so she could only hope for a miracle.
Milo watch her disappear into the forest before facing the settlement again. He took few breaths to calm his nerves before looking at getting serious.
He would have to do it quick to give Cyra the small window to slip pass the monster village's defenses. He began taking out everything he would need for the job.
Small explosives, like grenades were pinned to the ground at several locations to create a wide net. Noah never taught him anything about rigging explosives, these were small grenades and other time activated devices.
Milo came up with it on his own knowing that for grenade one would have to pull the pin eith sufficient force and throw it within limit time to keep it from exploding in their face.
With minimum pulling force of two to three pounds, he knew he had to lodge the nades firmly so that it could cause the chain reaction. He had para cord ropes that were very firm and a quite a lot of it.
So for the next hour, he was always alert laying down his traps while also avoiding the enemy traps. The settlement was just like any other millitary village with regular troops patrolling in timely manner.
But maybe of they were too used to it or there didn't seem to be any danger around them, they were quite lax. He would always hear their strange tongue, the way they speak was completely different from humans and it was several pitch higher than himan voice.
He would hear them from dozens of meters away even with all the forest noises which made his job a lot easier. Their patrol also seem to follow a fixed path meaning, there was a distinct trail surrounding the whole settlement.
It gave him some idea of how large it was and where were the boundaries that he could infiltrate for a quick planting of the bombs.
It took him a full hour to lay out the traps. It showed how skilled he was because they never discovered his presence. There was also small watchtower which was made out of natural tree formation, it was quite hard to spot but Milo was always careful.
He successfully did his job and retreated right outside the boundary waiting for the designated time to pull the trigger. With his sniper rifle in hand, he had probably two chance to hit the target before his location was discovered.
As the most skillful sharpshooter among his peers, he was confident in hitting the mark but because of the rush of adrenaline his hands were shaking making it harder for him to focus. This was not a practice but real combat situation, if he missed his shot it would be a disaster!
