Hunters: Moonlit Shadows

Chapter 10: Chapter 10

The moonlight gleamed on the marble floor, the scent of silverware filled the air and statues of monsters stood on the left side each side of the hall. Weapons of different varieties lay on the walls like prized possessions; the pictures of saints lay at the other side of the room's wall.

The still silence was interrupted by boots stumping towards the hallway, the sound echoed through the hall. Two ladies walked into the hall in a hurry.

"What did you mean to tell me Stacy?" one of the lady asked as she fixed her dark rough hair.

Stacy hesitated for a moment "Kate, don't be mad but…"

Kate took a deep breath in, whenever Stacy said she shouldn't freak out, she always ended up mad.

"Let's say hypothetically, I sent Elly to the wolf's territory in Blackthorn…"

"You sent Elena to the wolf's' forest in Blackthorn" Kate gasped.

"I said hypothetically and you didn't let me finish the question" Stacy murmured stepping back as Kate walked towards her.

"You sent Elena to the forest, what were you thinking?" Kate said coming to a halt.

"Well she wanted to go…."

"And you let her? Oh dear sometimes I wonder how you became a legion"

Kate stared at the floor for some seconds before looking back at Stacy. "So what? You want me to help you go get her."

"Mhm" Stacy nodded.

"Hard pass! Do it yourself" Kate waved a dismissive hand and started walking away. Stacy caught up to her, grabbing Kate by the arm.

"Come on, please" Stacy pleaded "Only heaven knows what Dexter will do to me when he finds out"

Kate didn't reply, her expression was blank and her gaze seemed to be fixed on something behind of her.

Stacy turned to find Dexter in his usual cloak that hid most of his features except his crimson eyes which seemed to pierce through souls and clearly hiding his intense aura that seemed to leak out subsequently.

"When I find out what, Stacy?"

Stacy and Kate immediately straightened up, standing like trained soldiers facing the man in a cloak "We greet the head" both greeted in unison.

"What are you hiding both of you?" he asked as he took a step forward. The moment his feet touched the ground, an intense aura filled the room, threatening to tear the place down.

"Sir… um... the thing is" Stacy struggled to speak as she bore the pressure weighing on her body.

Kate immediately fell on her knees "Sir, Stacy here was telling me about a guy she liked"

"Hmmm"

Kate could feel Dexter's daze on her, as if scanning for truth in her words.

"Legions shouldn't be gossiping, how do you expect to show example to your juniors, the hunters" Dexter said, the pressure in the room decreasing as he walked towards the aisle before coming to a halt. "And Stacy… I advise you fix any complications before I find out" he said before he continued on his way.

"Do you think he caught on?" Stacy asked when Dexter was out of sight.

Kate stared at the aisle Dexter had used. "I don't know but you heard him" Kate patted Stacy on the shoulder "Bring Elena alive if you value your existence Stacy."

"Well this should be at least entertaining" Stacy grumbled as she walked out of the hall.

Kate watched Stacy as her blonde hair moved along with her body.

"She's a beauty alright. I wonder if it's dyed" Kate thought to herself.

Liam met the vampire half-way slamming it to the ground, Claude leapt towards Elena. Liam tried moving but the vampire under his feet held him down.

"Where do you think you're going?" The vampire snarled as he tossed Liam into the air.

Liam tried gaining momentum but the vampire met up to him and sent him crashing into the ground with a kick.

"Liam…" Elena yelled rushing towards him but Claude instantly punched her stomach, sending her crashing into a tree.

"A hunter trying to save a werewolf," Claude snickered "That's new"

Elena stood up, wiping the blood of her lips. Without warning, she lunged at Claude, her dagger aimed at his throat. But Claude sidestepped her strike with ease. He disappeared out of sight and appeared behind her, slashing his claws across her back.

Elena cried out in pain but didn't falter. She spun, sweeping her legs out to trip Claude sending him crashing to the ground.

Her vision was blurred with red as she tried to make out Liam's condition. Liam shifted to his wolf form, leapt towards the vampire in the air. The sound of his claws raking through the flesh filled the air. The vampire hissed but fought back, sinking its fangs into Liam's shoulder.

She smirked "As impressive as ever". She grabbed the Claude's wrist, twisting it with a sickening snap. It howled as she ran towards Liam.

"You're not going anywhere hunter" Claude surged towards her. Elena dodged to the side, driving her dagger deep into its side. Silver burned through its flesh, it screamed, stumbling backward.

Liam's roar echoed through the forest as he tore the second vampire apart, his claws slashing through its chest. The vampire disintegrated into ash, its body crumbling to the ground.

Claude lunged at Elena once more. With a swift, fluid motion, she slammed her blade into its chest, the silver slicing through its heart. The vampire's eyes widened in shock, its mouth opening to release a final, silent scream before turning to ashes, falling in a heap at her feet.

The silence that followed was deafening.

"Finally, it's over" Elena's chest heaved with each breath, blood dripping from the wounds on her back and side.

Liam stood nearby, blood streaking his fur as he surveyed the battlefield. His golden eyes flickered toward her, a mixture if surprise and something darker in their depths.

"You're not bad, hunter," he said, his voice rough with exhaustion.

Elena didn't answer. She didn't have the energy for his prideful remarks. She focused on her injuries, quickly assessing the damage. It wasn't fatal, but it would slow her down.

"How about we finish what we started?" Liam grinned walking towards her with purpose. Elena managed to maintain a stance.

Liam was inches away from her, his golden eyes glaring at her. "Tsk, I didn't see anything, run along hunter" he said before backing away.

Elena heaved a huge sigh, she hadn't realized she'd been holding her breath.

"You should go," he said, his voice suddenly colder. "Before more show up."

Before Elena could reply, the sound of a hand slow-clapping echoed through the forest.

Liam turned around sharply towards its source. A blonde lady stepped into the moonlight, the first thing he noticed was the jacket, it was a hunter's jacket same as Elena's.

"What an impressive show!" The lady applauded as she closed each step between them. She walked with grace but each step gave Liam chills.

Elena's expression brightened for a moment. "Stacy, you're here" she grinned but then noticed that Stacy gave no reply. Her eyes widened with realization, she immediately ran to Liam.

Liam stared as the tip of a dagger faced Elena's neck as she stood at his front.

Stacy's gaze fixed on Liam, her dagger gleaming with the moonlight, inches away from Elena's neck.
