"Shut up!"
Illumi was expressionless, stopping Javier's self-congratulatory outburst. In such an unclear ancient ruin, who knew what dangers might be lurking inside? It required constant silence and high concentration.
"Hoo~ hoo~"
Inside the quiet, deep tunnel, Illumi and his group reached a turn at a hundred meters. After walking a few dozen more meters, they felt as if they had entered another world—a world of utter silence. Apart from the nine people's breathing, no other sound existed; even the construction noise from outside couldn't be heard.
Several bodyguards looked tense, Javier was secretly excited, and Illumi and Bradley were naturally expressionless. Illumi had a strong mental fortitude. While King Bradley had self-awareness, his essence was that of a Nen beast, meaning there was nothing that could make him fear.
The group turned a few more corners, seemingly descending several dozen meters deeper.
"Hoo~ hoo~"
They were now deep underground. The oxygen content was gradually decreasing, the air became murky, and everyone's breathing became somewhat erratic and heavy.
"Stop. You don't need to go any deeper." Illumi suddenly halted, raised his right hand, and said with an impassive face. "You all go up and wait first. Bradley and I will continue deeper."
"Maintain communication."
The six bodyguards nodded solemnly, then departed with the unwilling Javier in the direction they came from. He also understood that if he continued, he would only become a burden.
"Let's continue." Illumi said to King Bradley, who nodded gravely.
"En." Illumi activated his En, its range reaching seven meters, an increase of two meters compared to a month ago. Everything within a seven-meter radius was within Illumi's perception.
Without the others dragging them down, Illumi and King Bradley's speed increased considerably. As they delved deeper, their pace quickened even more.
"Crack."
A sound like decaying wood being crushed echoed. Illumi and King Bradley paused, abruptly stopping.
"These skeletons are..." Illumi and King Bradley shone their powerful flashlights onto the ground of the last section of the tunnel, which was densely covered with pale white human skeletons.
"A massacre occurred here." King Bradley's left eye glowed red, and his Uroboros mark appeared.
Illumi's expression grew more serious. The deeper they went into such a place, the more likely they were to encounter what they least wanted to see. However, if it was a massacre, there were no signs of a struggle on these walls.
"This is the last section of the tunnel." Illumi shone his flashlight forward. The final section of the tunnel was only a dozen meters long, but its floor was covered with a dense layer of pale white skeletons. Even with Illumi's current mental fortitude, he couldn't help but feel a chill of horror. If it were an ordinary person, they would surely be screaming uncontrollably, their legs turning to jelly, unable to move.
"Crack, crack... crack..."
But the two still raised their feet and slowly stepped forward. Their feet crunched on the pale white skeletons, making a scalp-tingling "crack, crack" sound. Soon, the two exited the tunnel, and a vast cavernous hall appeared before them. With just the flashlights in their hands, they couldn't determine how large this cavernous hall truly was.
Under the illumination of Illumi and King Bradley's powerful flashlights, the surrounding walls were covered with various dizzying drawings and patterns, countless in number. Within the cavernous hall, there were also some pillars showing traces of artificial modification. Some were perfectly intact, while others lay broken on the ground, snapped into two or more pieces. The floor of the cavernous hall, like the tunnel behind them, was covered with pale white skeletons.
And in the very center of these pale white skeletons, a circle of extraordinary pale white skeletons was arranged. They wore tattered gray-green rags, their upper bodies neatly arranged in a circle. They were only upper bodies because their lower bodies were missing, perhaps mixed among the dense remnants. What was special was that their skulls were placed in front of them, as if an ancient evil cult were performing a sacrifice.
"Crack..."
Illumi and the other moved forward again, gently nudging aside the human remains on the steps with their feet as they entered the cavernous hall.
"Is that... an altar?" After walking about fifty meters, Illumi and King Bradley looked at the farthest distance their flashlights could reach ahead. In the area surrounded by skeletons, there was a dark altar.
Illumi and King Bradley slowly approached, circling the altar once. The altar was about four meters high, with steps on all four sides. On each step of the altar, some kind of text or pattern was carved.
Illumi and King Bradley exchanged glances, then simultaneously stepped onto the steps.
"Rustle..."
The steps were covered with a layer of dust. Every step they took kicked up a large amount of dust. The two ascended step by step until they reached the top of the altar.
"A coffin?" Illumi was somewhat surprised, yet also felt it was logical. The flashlight in his hand illuminated the only object placed on the altar before him—a pure black stone coffin.
The stone coffin was very large. Both its top and bottom length were significantly longer than ordinary coffins, not to mention its width. Illumi speculated that if someone were buried inside, that person must have been a giant, at least three meters tall, a true small giant.
"En." Illumi closed his eyes and concentrated, activating En. A translucent circular barrier slowly expanded, extending towards the stone coffin.
"Hiss!"
But the moment his aura touched the stone coffin, Illumi suddenly opened his eyes. His En couldn't penetrate it. To be precise, it wasn't that he couldn't penetrate the stone coffin itself, but rather that something inside the coffin was preventing his aura from entering.
"What's inside?" Illumi's expression was grave. Could it be a mummy in there? However, even though his aura was blocked, he didn't sense any danger from this stone coffin.
"I'll open it." He was still pondering, but King Bradley directly stepped forward, looked at Illumi, and sought his permission. King Bradley had no reservations. His essence was that of a Nen beast, so he feared no traps or mechanisms, and certainly knew nothing about mummies.
Illumi took a slight step back and nodded gently at Bradley.
"Boom, boom..."
Accompanied by the rumbling sound of the stone coffin moving, King Bradley pressed down on the coffin and violently pushed open the incredibly heavy coffin lid.
"Hiss, hiss..."
A large amount of dust scattered, flying towards Illumi, forcing him to retreat another five steps.
"Rumble!"
The stone coffin lid, under King Bradley's immense push, crashed onto the altar with a "rumble," revealing the interior of the coffin.
