Chapter 11: Ophelia Lock's Home (i)
Chapter 11
First POV (Bonnie)
I clawed my hand on the door, ready to drop the cat down on the ground to prevent myself from being dragged into the house but I was dropped onto the floor with the cat in my hands before even realizing it. Standing up from the ground wasn't the issue I had, moving away from the spot I stood was the problem. Imagine being in a dark room with portraits of people staring at you from your perspective, whenever you move forward it's like they follow your every movement. That was exactly how I felt in this moment and the hands that dragged me were another problem of mine, every time I tried heading towards the door, they would drag me back to the middle of the dark corridor.
Meow.
Meow.
Right. Kevin the cat was with me, purring in my arms like where we were wasn't one to fuel my nightmares for weeks. But maybe animals don't have dreams? Are they all just hibernating? Are their bodies just shutting down functions for the brain to have proper rest and energy to function more?
May I be deflecting from the feeling of the walls closing in on me? Then yes. I am equally that spineless and my self preservation function is on autopilot right now, so don't mind me trying to run towards the front door, which seems to be growing smaller in sight.
Wait.
What?
Do my eyes deceive me or is the darkness playing tricks on my sight? Because the door was going rapidly smaller until I saw no sight of it. But the portraits in the halls were gone, replaced by doors beside me instead. I searched my pockets, bringing out my spare torchlight. My eyebrows furrowed as I held onto the feline creature in my hand tightly. The cat purred softly in my hands, nuzzling against my skin to seek comfort. I really wished for the level of calmness he had.
Nevertheless, there was no entrance but now I was stuck in a room with multiple doors that were all unlocked, and I had to pick one, as it was the only way to properly escape from the building. Unfortunately for me, Kevin the cat had jumped out of my hands and headed to the door on my left, landing on the doorknob and moved it to the side to open it. The cat rested its body on the door, causing it to open and landed on the ground, running inside as I directed my light into the dark room that seemed to have no end. There was no use fighting the inevitable, I had to enter the room and hope for the cat to be my lucky charm.
The door closed on its own when I entered the room. Not doing much for my nerves, as I walked forward, directing my torchlight to the surface of the room. The house was rather big I would admit, there was a golden chandelier on the ceiling that I walked around, as it could crush me if anything went wrong with its stability or cut off unexpectedl-
Slam.
Crack.
Of course, it wanted to fall when I was almost near it. I sighed in relief, as I looked at the broken chandelier behind me, halting the movement of me and the cat in the process. I know I was processing the fact I would have died in a creepy and abandoned house because of a chandelier, which was essentially a big metal chained death trap that could pass as jewellery to a few people.
This is why I don't like big houses even if they have many people in it. Being alone in such a building was bone chilling for someone like me even if I did like to interact with as less people as possible even if it's impossible since humans are social animals, and we constantly need the presence of others. Although some sociopaths and introverts don't exactly follow the norm and prefer the company of animals outside of the human race like dogs, cats, some would go for rodents like a fuzzy hamster and a select few liked reptiles, still don't understand the appeal of a snake as a pet after they pass two feet but everyone has some preference someone else is going to be view as weird.
Next mission was to work on the broken and unkept staircase in the middle of the room. Kevin seemed to have stopped after that. He walked away from it, heading towards .....a window? I sprinted to the window, hoping that this was my way of exit, but it was sealed shut as well and iron bars were placed in front of the glass window in front of me. I sighed in defeat, until I heard footsteps outside of the window and found myself staring at Luis and Leah looking around for her and Kevin the cat.
"Leah, Luis. Over here!!" I shouted loud enough to gain their attention. Leah looked happy to see me, but Luis was the one who seemed to have a worried expression on his face, while looking at me. Nothing less I can expect from him, I wanted to relax and be happy that I had been found by my friends but nothing in Lock city was ever so peaceful. I knew something worse was going to happen when Kevin started to purr even louder and found a way to run up on the railing of the stairs.
"Bonnie! Don't move from the bars!!" Luis declared with an unexplainable expression on his face. His words started to feel faint to me, so did everything else around me was starting to feel. Like I was being dragged away from the window, my eyes fighting the random feeling of fatigue and sleep that fell upon me and yet, I couldn't deny the sweet slumber that was given to me in a place that could permanently grant me such a thing at the price of my life.
