Chapter 89: The Hero's Ascension
My heart is pounding as my fingers are inches away from the Wand Of Origin.
The pulsating mana from the wand keeps pouring out of it, causing everyone else in the room to brace themselves against the tables. Yet, it doesn't push me away. It is almost like it wants me to come closer.
To test it.
To see if I am worthy of it. I close my eyes as the magic coming out of the wand becomes too bright.
I feel the hot air caused by the cackling lightning and fire magic. My hand quickly wraps itself around the wand. The moment my hand grabs it, an explosion of elemental mana erupts, sending several shockwaves throughout the chamber, causing several of the tables to rattle aggressively.
The imperial guards instinctively pull up their shields to prepare for anything to go wrong—for the wand to fight against me or the others. As I keep holding onto the wand, the elemental mana encircles me in a celestial storm of origin magic.
Lightning, fire, earth, wind, water, light, and darkness swirl around me at speeds I can't keep up with.
The celestial magic soon forms together into one and bursts from the tip of the Wand Of Origin into the sky.
The burst of power coming from the wand causes the entire room to be lit up in brilliant colors of red, blue, green, silver, darkness, and gold, all around the room as each of the elements dance together near the ceiling.
Soon enough, all the elements gather back into one, and all the power is sucked back into the Wand Of Origin. I feel like I am connected to magic itself. It feels like I am the magic.
The wand now feels light in my hand as I examine it with a look of disbelief.
I can still feel the sizzling power of the Wand Of Origin wanting to be released into the wild. However, now I know how to have control over it. It looks like it accepted me as its owner in one way or another. The room is silent as I look around at everybody's faces.
They are all in disbelief from everything they just witnessed.
Ivy is the first one to run up to me and hug me.
"Thank God you are alright, Nico! We had no idea if you were in control of yourself or if something bad was going to happen to you."
I hug her back with the wand still in my hand.
"I was worried too, but I am sure it's over now. It's like I feel super connected and drawn to the magic now, like I somehow understand it better. I just hope I am the actual owner of the wand so I can use it to protect everyone, etc."
"You are the rightful owner of the Wand Of Origin. But be warned, it will push you to experiences and limits you have never known before. So make sure to be prepared for anything you tackle, and don't go too overboard with it," the Emperor says to me as he walks back up to me.
"Don't forget that since you can already cast tenth-affinity level magic spells, the Wand Of Origin will make it a lot easier to cast high-level spells without wasting too much mana. It will help you unlock more eleventh-level origin magic spells. However, remember to use it smartly and do not abuse it, or else it will come back to bite you, Viscount."
"Take out your original wand, Viscount."
I take out my wand and look up at him, waiting for the next instructions. I hold both wands in each hand, now confused as to why I have two wands in my hands. A thought dawns on me. I look at the Emperor with a knowing expression. He nods and smiles.
"Your intuition is correct. Now that you are the owner of the Wand Of Origin, you also have the potential to be the first dual wielder in history.
Of course, dual wielding wands at a masterful level is a legendary myth—that the one who is able to dual wield all the elements is the savior of humanity."
I look at him in surprise. That's a lot of pressure on me for no reason at all.
"The most advanced mages can dual wield but to a very low extent. If you can master dual wielding, your casting speed, adaptability, and spell combinations will be off the charts. In order to help you with your newfound power, I have brought some mentors to personally help you."
The Emperor gestures toward the doors of the underground room, where two figures emerge. The first figure to emerge is an elderly scholar with minimalist robes. He looks wise and calm. The second figure is wearing battle mage equipment.
The second figure looks young and very energetic, similar to Matteo.
However, the second figure looks like he has gone through many experiences of battle, more so than Matteo. The Emperor introduces them in the order they walked out.
"This first gentleman is Professor Aldric, the leading researcher in Oriventh on Origin Magic. He will be able to help you understand your magic better so you know how to wield it. The second gentleman is Sir Daelon. Sir Daelon is the Captain of the Oriventh Magic Knights."
"He is a competent dual wand wielder as well. He will help you with combat training and understanding how to dual wield your magic. Together, they will help you transform into the most powerful mage as we know it. You are our last hope, Viscount, against whatever threat we are going up against."
"Especially if the Eradicators are even slightly alive."
I nod back at him without knowing what to say. I end up just introducing myself to both Professor Aldric and Sir Daelon. They both seem like happy guys with a warm presence. They feel like they will be good teachers.
That is, if I can keep up with them.
The Emperor clasps my shoulder.
"You got this, Viscount."
He turns toward Professor Aldric and Sir Daelon.
"Please take him to the Imperial Training Grounds."
Well, let's see what these wands can do.
