Chapter 127: Crimson Curtain
When I wake up and roll over to look at the time, I find Ivy looking at me smiling.
It startled me for a moment, not going to lie, but I am happy to see her face. Happy to see it any day of the week at any time. Though don't tell her that or else she might tease me for eternity. That wouldn't be great.
"Good morning, handsome!"
"Good morning, beautiful!"
I give her a good morning kiss and then we both get out of bed. She told me she decided to just wait for me to wake up so we can head to the dining hall together now. She says that waking up early to do her early morning training and reading isn't as fun if I can't be around her for breakfast.
I agree with her. I like to be with her first thing in the morning. Sets the mood right for the day.
We brush our teeth together and Ivy helps me sort out my terrible bedhead as usual. We head to the large-ass closet as usual and we get changed. Before we know it, we are walking toward the dining hall holding hands. I like this. I know she has her early morning training to do as she is an ambitious girl, but I like it when we can do this.
Our friends, the Emperor, and King Grey greet us as we all sit down for breakfast. Eggs, sausages, bacon, biscuits—you name it, everything is there. I feel my energy growing as I continue to eat more and more. The usual small talk occurs until an imperial guard bursts into the dining hall with a letter in his hand and hands it to the Emperor.
The Emperor's eyes widen, and he begins to smile as he reads the letter. He whispers to all of us that the Ryndoria President and the Vice-President have been killed by mercenaries. Turns out the mercenary leader felt like being gracious to us since we let them off so easily, so they included the Vice President as well. From their intelligence, they probably knew he was also an enemy.
The imperial messenger hands over another paper, but this is a newspaper about the current events in Ryndoria. Since the President and Vice President are gone, the General Assembly Chief has taken control of Ryndoria and has agreed to join the GA Alliance.
Finally, someone who sees some common sense.
Even if you were evil, you can't control humanity if humanity gets crushed by all the magic beasts. Apparently, the newspaper confirms the Ryndoria President was found dead with the markings of the Eradicators. We all sit in silence as we all had a suspicion they were alive, but this is something else.
We have to kill the other two Emperors of Light in order to officially off them.
The Emperor stands up from the table and immediately orders preparations to head to the Grand Duchy of Pedgas by tonight. He knows that since the Ryndoria President and Vice President are gone, that Grand Duke Pedgas is going to be making some sort of move soon.
We follow the Emperor out of the dining hall as he goes around the Imperial Palace telling imperial guards to ready up people to head to the Grand Duchy. The Emperor explains to us we have to reach the Grand Duchy of Pedgas soon before the Grand Duke tries to flee somewhere else.
"I doubt any countries will give him asylum since all the leaders of the countries are either a part of the GA Alliance or are friends with me, such as The Divine One from the Seylora Theocracy."
The Emperor says as we continue to follow him around. He hands the newspaper and letter to us so we can all read and look at it for ourselves. It is very good and lucky the mercenaries managed to confirm the hit.
The approval rating among the Ryndoria President wasn't great to begin with, so there doesn't seem to be many riots according to the article. The Emperor tells a messenger to send a letter to the Grand Assembly Chief to thank him for joining the war effort and if they need any support, they can provide it.
Suddenly, it feels like all that peace yesterday doesn't even matter.
As we walk through the Imperial Palace's halls, we notice a cloaked figure trying to run away. I catch a glimpse of the figure, and my friends and I run after them. Using our enhanced magic, especially with our elemental sphere necklaces, we capture the figure pretty quickly.
I throw back the hood of the figure to reveal a girl with black hair. The Emperor walks up to us, furious, and shakes his head. He tells us the girl is a maid who he thought he could trust. We start interrogating her. The Emperor threatens to use the truth potion.
The girl speaks up as she doesn't want to drink that stuff.
"I am a spy for Grand Duke Pedgas. I was trying to head back to the Grand Duchy before you all could reach him. He needs to be warned."
The girl scowls at the Emperor. The Emperor just shakes his head, and several imperial guards send her to the jail underground. We have enough on our plate right now to deal with. Once that is done with, the Emperor turns to us and tells us to pack up, and we are leaving as soon as possible.
My friends and I head to our rooms. Ivy and I quickly pack up all our things. It feels sad as I didn't want to leave the safety of the Imperial Palace for a while. I guess we have to go with the flow.
Once we double-check we have everything, we place our luggage outside our room, which the staff takes down to the carriages.
We meet our friends right outside the Imperial Palace front doors as everything gets packed. It is amazing to see how powerful our group has become. It doesn't take long for us to soon be on our way, riding on our way to the Grand Duchy of Pedgas to capture him once and for all.
He doesn't know we have the Elemental Spheres either.
This is it for you, Grand Duke Pedgas.
