Humanity’s Great Sage

Chapter 4: Talent Tree

Amidst the crackling sound of the explosion, the faint flame flickered a few more times and then finally went out.

The torch that had been inserted on the secret mine tunnel’s stake burnt out. The secret tunnel was plunged into darkness once more, but Lu Ye did not completely lose his sight. The environment that should have been pitch black still had some faint light in his eyes. He could see the outline of Manager Yang’s corpse not far away, as well as the cold light on the sword he had thrown aside…

It’s not that the mine tunnel was not dark enough, but that his vision had improved.

After opening his spiritual aperture, Lu Ye clearly felt that some wonderful changes had occurred in his body.

“Haha…hahaha…hahahaha…” Lu Ye couldn’t help laughing wildly. The laughter echoed in the claustrophobic environment, but he didn’t stop until his injury was affected.

Suppressing the joy in his heart, he recalled what had happened just now.

What was certain was that his sudden opening of his spiritual aperture was related to the shadow tree and also to the dark red ore that he had never seen before.

‘No, the ore was not the crucial point. The point was the orange flame in the ore!’ he thought.

The shadow tree grew roots and swallowed the flame and as a result, his spiritual aperture opened by itself.

The shadow tree had never changed like this before, so it should be caused by the stimulation of the orange flame…

‘It seems that my previous thoughts were correct. This shadow tree can indeed provide some wonderful help to me, I just hadn’t found the right way to use it in all this time’ he thought.

After clearing his mind, he quickly concentrated. He wanted to see what the shadow tree looked like now. Since the orange flame was consumed by the shadow tree, there ought to be some changes to it.

Perhaps it was because he was too emotional, but even though Lu Ye tried to concentrate, he couldn’t see the shadow tree. This had happened often before, and the reason for it was his lack of adequate concentration.

He took a few deep breaths, calmed down, and waited for a long time before trying again.

This time he saw the shadow tree smoothly, and just as Lu Ye expected, the original grey shadow tree had some changes.

In general, the shadow tree still looked like its former self. The roots that came out before weren’t there anymore, but near the bottom of the canopy, a leaf was shrouded in a blazing fire, as if it were burning.

Lu Ye tried to concentrate as he looked at the burning leaf, and vaguely saw a very complicated and cumbersome pattern imprinted on it.

He concentrated, trying to see the pattern clearly.

An unusual change appeared suddenly!

The small leaf appeared to be zoomed in before his eyes, instantly obstructing his vision. At the same time, a large amount of inexplicable information flooded into his mind uncontrollably. Lu Ye suddenly felt as if someone had smashed him on the head with a sledgehammer. He passed out without even saying a word.

When he woke up again, Lu Ye was dizzy and had a splitting headache.

He shook his head and got up, leaning back against the rock wall for support.

He recalled what had happened before he had gone unconscious, but he was surprised to find that there was a lot of information in his mind that he had never known before. This information was deeply ingrained, as if it came from his own memories.

Lu Ye calmed down, carefully inspected these memories that shouldn’t exist, and quickly understood the whole story.

It was also caused by the shadow tree. The shadow tree swallowed the orange flame, and as a result, there was a burning leaf on the tree.

There was a mysterious pattern on the leaf, which carried a lot of magical knowledge. When Lu Ye explored it carefully, the knowledge forcibly poured into his mind.

Sharp!

This was the thing imprinted on the leaf; a spirit pattern called Sharp.

Lu Ye had heard of spirit patterns, which were things that contained mysterious power. They were closely related to the livelihood, cultivation, and fighting strength of cultivators.

There seemed to people who specialized in the study of spirit patterns. They were called spirit pattern masters. But there were very few of them because the study of spirit patterns was not easy.

After understanding these things, Lu Ye wanted to mobilize the spiritual power in his new spiritual aperture.

However, he found that the spiritual power in his aperture was so heavy that he couldn’t mobilize it at all.

After thinking about it, Lu Ye remembered that he was still within the range of a magnetic essence field, so how easy would it be to mobilize his spiritual power here?

Manager Yang died in his hands due to this reason.

He stood up and hobbled towards the distance. As he walked, he felt the reaction of the spiritual power in his aperture. He stopped walking only when he could mobilize his spiritual power.

Soon, the position he was at had left the range covered by the magnetic essence field and the original heavy spiritual power became extremely light and active. Under Lu Ye’s will, he moved the spiritual power throughout his body. Wherever the energy went, it was warm. He who had never had this experience before was amazed.

After playing for a while, he thought of the spirit pattern and almost instinctively poured spiritual power into the palm of his hand. In an instant, a brilliant light flashed on his palm.

Although it was fleeting, Lu Ye could still clearly see that the brilliant light had depicted an extremely complicated and tedious pattern, exactly the same as the pattern engraved on the shadow tree’s burning leaf!

“This is Sharp?” Lu Ye looked down at his palm. Logically speaking, he had just opened his spiritual aperture, and he didn’t know how to use spiritual power, let alone construct a spirit pattern with spiritual power.

But he did it so easily, as if he had gone through countless exercises in order to master it.

There was a faint light coming from the palm of his hand, like a large firefly. There were also bursts of tingling in his palm, which made Lu Ye feel like there were many needles piercing into his flesh.

Although it was his palm, it felt extremely sharp at the moment. Lu Ye felt like he could split a stone with one palm move!

Thinking of this, he immediately pulled a basin-sized stone from the side of the tunnel. This kind of stone could be seen everywhere in the mine and had no value.

Placing the stone in front of him, Lu Ye raised his palm and chopped it down.

The basin-sized stone split immediately, giving off a crisp cracking sound. The resulting cut was neat and tidy.

Lu Ye was stunned. Although he thought he could split the stone just now, he never would have thought it would have happened so easily. This was not splitting, this was cutting, and it was just one of his hands that had cut the stone!

And all of this was only because of the Sharp pattern’s blessing. This spirit pattern’s function seemed to be to make the blessed object extremely sharp.

He had once seen a cultivator from Evil Moon Valley smash a stone with his palm. He was shocked at the time, but now it seemed that he had the ability to do it too, and he could do it even better.

This was still just cutting stones, but what if it were cutting people?

The light on the palm of his hand slowly dissipated after cutting the stone. This was due to the exhaustion of his spiritual power. At the same time, Lu Ye felt like his whole person was empty and a boundless sense of weakness hit him.

His heart was broken.

‘I have just opened my aperture, and for just a moment, my heart itched to condense a spirit pattern, which I thought would be a little overwhelming. But this was a serious overdraft of my spiritual power’ he thought.

Tiredness struck, but Lu Ye endured. If he fell asleep at this time, he didn’t know if he could wake up.

He hurried back to the place where he was before, picked up a bottle of Qi and Blood pills, poured out a few into his mouth, then took another piece of beast meat and ate it.

The effect of the Qi and Blood pills melted away, gradually filling his body, and the feeling of weakness slowly subsided.

Leaning on the rock wall, he sorted his thoughts.

After the shadow tree that had accompanied him for more than a year swallowed an orange flame, he had opened his spiritual aperture and become a cultivator. Then when he checked the shadow tree, he found a burning leaf in it. From this burning leaf, he got the Sharp spirit pattern…

Looking at the shadow tree now, Lu Ye couldn’t help but get an intense feeling of déjà vu.

After pondering for a moment, Lu Ye suddenly came to the conclusion: ‘Surely this tree must be part of my innate endowments, the manifestation of my innate skills?  So I’ll call it my talent tree.’
