Humanity’s Great Sage

Chapter 10: Opportunity

“Brother Lu has a spiritual aperture?” Yu Xiaodie asked.

“Why do you say this?” Lu Ye asked instead of answering.

Yu Xiaodie pointed her finger at the storage bag around Lu Ye’s waist.

Lu Ye understood, and nodded: “Exactly.” Then he asked, “And you?”

Yu Xiaodie raised her hand, a faint light blooming on her palm.

She obviously also had a spiritual aperture, but Lu Ye couldn’t tell what her cultivation base was. It wasn’t polite to outright ask about this kind of thing, especially as they were not very familiar with each other.

They were both cultivators who had opened spiritual apertures so there were many topics in common between the two. Regardless of the fact that there were nearly a thousand people gathered here, there were probably not many of them who had opened their Source Apertures. And all the ones who did had extremely low cultivation levels.

Those who had a real cultivation base had already been absorbed by Evil Moon Valley and had become Evil Moon Valley’s disciples. You could imagine their ends at this time.

Yu Xiaodie lowered her voice and said, “Tomorrow’s opportunity is extremely important, and you must not miss it. If brother Lu has any special talents, you should show them off as much as you can. This is related to your future.”

She seemed to know something.

Lu Ye replied: “I understand.”

Speaking of which, he didn’t have any special talents. He did have a talent tree, but others couldn’t see it, so it was definitely impossible for him to show it off.

After all was said and done, it was not appropriate for Lu Ye to be in the middle of a bunch of women, so Lu Ye said a few more words with Yu Xiaodie and then left.

Though there were a lot of enslaved people gathered here, the scope of their activities was limited. Lu Ye looked around and walked straight to a certain corner.

The Liu brothers who were over there shivered as they hid in the crowd, and they paled when they saw Lu Ye coming.

When Lu Ye stood in front of them, the expressions of the two became more worried.

“You…what do you want?” Boss Liu yelled in a stern tone. While speaking, he kept peeking in the direction where the fat cultivator was, as if he wanted to ask for help.

The answer to him was a fist that came zooming in before his eyes. With just one punch, the bridge of the older Liu brother’s nose was broken and he fell to the ground. Lu Ye kicked the belly of the younger Liu brother, and grabbed his hair before he too could fall down: “You don’t seem to recognize me?”

The younger Liu brother’s expression was full of anguish. He was seeing stars from the blow to his head, so how could he answer Lu Ye?

Lu Ye snorted coldly, and with one hand he threw the younger Liu brother into the ground behind him. His mouth hit the ground and he ate mud. Two of his teeth were lost.

He occupied the original position of the Liu brothers, sat down cross-legged, closed his eyes, and rested.

He had a full Source Aperture, but he couldn’t find the place to open the second aperture.  Before finding it, continuing to practice would only end up wasting his supply of Qi and Blood pills.

In the evening, people from the Great Heaven League came to distribute food and bedding. Each of them received some. Lu Ye hadn’t eaten his fill, but fortunately, Zhou Cheng had put food in his storage bag, so he took some out and ate it up.

Other people in the crowd watched and swallowed in hunger, but no one dared to step forward.

Because Lu Ye had clearly and openly taken care of the Liu brothers, he had monopolized a large area and it had saved him a lot of trouble.

After he started refining Qi, his appetite grew bigger with each passing day, and so he could even eat the dried beast meat with relish.

There was nothing said all night through to the next day. Lu Ye’s was in high spirits, waiting for the so-called opportunity.

It was not until after breakfast when more than a dozen cultivators in different garments came to the crowd. The leader was a middle-aged man, standing in front with his hands on his back. He glanced around then said with a slight smile: “You young people come from different sects and families. Your sects and families were taken into captivity and enslaved, and they have faced a lot of hardships. But this kind of life has come to an end. The sects of the Great Heaven League are recruiting talents. If there are people here with cultivation or talent for cultivation, they may have the opportunity to join one of the League’s sects. We await the day when, in the future, we might be able to fight side by side together to slay monsters and guard against evil.”

After he finished speaking, he waved his hand gently.

More than a dozen differently-dressed cultivators stepped forward, and the first one gestured with his hand and said, “You people, follow me.”

Through his simple gesture, a surge of spiritual power poured out of his hand and wrapped up almost a hundred people.

In this manner, the first cultivator brought everyone to the side.

The second person did the same…

There were about a thousand people who had survived Evil Moon Valley’s enslavement, which was just enough for these ten cultivators to divvy everyone up into groups of about 100.

Lu Ye was in the last cultivator’s group because he was in the innermost position of the crowd.

The place he came to wasn’t far away from where they were before. The cultivator for his group had everyone line up single file.

Lu Ye was in the middle of the line. As he looked around, he saw that the groups of former slaves that were led out before his were similarly lined up.

He understood. They needed to do some tests to see if there were any existing cultivators among these slaves or any who were suitable to begin cultivating.

Judging from the words of the middle-aged cultivator from before, those who had opened their Source Aperture might have a greater advantage in meeting their requirements.

As for those who did not and those who had no talent for cultivating, they would not be taken seriously.

After everyone was lined up, the cultivator who had led them took out a table and a crystal ball from his storage bag. He sat behind the table and said, “Go ahead.”

The first slave walked up to him.

The cultivator asked, “Have you ever cultivated?”

The slave shook his head: “Never!”

“Alright.” The cultivator who asked the question pushed the crystal ball he had taken out before and said: “Cover your hands on it.”

The slave did what he said, but the crystal ball didn’t respond.

The cultivator behind the table shook his head: “No spiritual aptitude, next one!”

The slave was a little lost, and hurriedly said: “I’m not ready, let me try again.”

“Next!” The cultivator waved his sleeves, and the chattering slave was swept aside and fell to the ground.

This scene made all the slaves who were still waiting in line feel distressed. Knowing that their destiny could be changed here today, just looking at the crystal ball made them feel suffocated.

The slaves continued covering their hands on the crystal ball one by one, so far all without the aptitude to cultivate.

When the thirteenth person put his hands on the crystal ball, the crystal ball that had not yet responded suddenly lit up with a light blue light.

“Finally there is one!” The cultivator behind the table smiled and looked up at the slave: “Name.”

The slave’s face flushed with excitement, and he answered truthfully.

The cultivator behind the table took out a jade card and urged the spiritual power in his hand. Soon, the side of the jade card revealed the person’s name.

The cultivator handed him the jade card, and said: “Take care in keeping it; you will need to use it later. Now go to the tent over there to find my senior brother San to see how talented you are.”

“Yes. Thank-you, sir.” The slave was holding the jade card, as if he were holding the most precious treasure in the world. He trotted towards the back where a simple and crude tent was erected.
