How To Train Your Dragon: The Night Fury’s Pack

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The scolding

After me and Jay played around in the water for a while, I realized that the adults were gathering, in my curiosity, I grabbed Jay into my mouth and sneakily ran into the bushes near their gathering. "Hay" said Jay as I put him back on the ground and I shushed him in response while pointing toward the gathering. Jay, being just as curious as I was quickly lowered himself and tried to get as close as possible.

"so are we staying or not?" Said a dragon in the gathering, his voice gruff and authoritative. "Is that mr. Smith?" I asked not expecting an answer as I stared at the white dragon with a blue tint on its patterns that sparkled in the sunlight and bright orange eyes. Jay hummed in confirmation and we continue to listen.

"I don't believe so, I think we should find somewhere with at least a cave nearby" said another dragon, his voice sounding somewhat familiar. "That was mr. Garcia Right?" I whispered to Jay, "ya I think so too" whispered Jay in response. With this there were agreed nods and voices in the gathering. "so do we keep traveling near the river or do we venture into the forest?" Said another voice, this one feminine.

"That's his wife, Scarelett Amber Garcia right" I whispered to Jay as I pointed at a slim night fury with black markings and a dark blue body. "Umm, I think so?" Said Jay with a hint of questioning in his voice. "Wait what about the children" said Jay as he looked at the water's edge. "There fine, there with Lucas, Maria, Aurora, and Liam" I said as I pushed his head back towards the gathering of adults. "Oh there with the teens" said Jay as he again began to focus on the conversations.

"I think it's better to follow the river, like in the survival documentary's" said another female voice. This voice was softer than the others, almost like a whisper. "Who's that" I whispered to Jay as I pointed at the white dragon. "Isn't that Evelyn Harper Moore? The singer you wanted to join so badly??" How could you forget??" Whispered Jay as he stared at me with a questioning look on his face. "hey she looks different than when she was a human OK" I whispered defiantly as I turned his head back to the crowd. "Ya, sure" whisper Jay with an obvious sarcasm in his voice.

If a dragon could blush, Amy would be as red as a tomato right now. "I think we should stay following the river" said another female voice, this one more confident than the others. "It's Leilani" I whispered in excitement as my tail begin to subconsciously wag from side to side. Jay quickly noticed this before tapping my left leg and whispering "quiet, we're trying to be stealthy here". I quickly stop my tail from moving and again began to listen in on the conversation.

As the conversation went on, they talked about the dangers in the forest that might appear and what to do once that happens and possible poisons that might appear during the trip to find a home. Just as we were about to leave as we had lost interest in the conversation, Jay's friend Noah tapped my tail and Whispered "hey, what are you guys doing?". I jumped in surprised as I tumbled out of the bushes and into the sight of the adults. "What was that" I said as I quickly turn my head back to the bushes only to see a white head poking out from it. The head was Snow White in color with forest green eyes.

"Noah?" I said in confusion as I looked at the white dragon that had an apologetic grin on its face. Before I could ask any questions one of the adults beat me to it. "what are you doing over here?" Asked an adult in an authoritative tone. In response, I slowly turned my head towards the group of adults that were just moments ago having a meeting. "I just wanted to know what you were talking about." I said, as I lowered my head. The same authoritative voice spoke again "this does not concern you. We will inform everyone about our decision once it has been finalized. Now go back to the other children".

In response to this, I slowly lifted my head only to see Mr. Garcia, staring daggers at me once again. I quickly lowered my head back down and said "yes sir, sorry sir" before I quickly turned around and ran to the bushes, not forgetting to grab Jay and then ran back to the crowd of children in the distance. As I looked back, I saw Noah's figure trying to keep up with us, but with his stubby legs, I was way faster. -serves him right- I thought as I quickened my pace. When we arrived at the shore, I was greeted by the other teenagers as they were being pounced on by children. I chuckled then placed Jay onto the ground.

"We are totally problem children for them" said Jay as he trotted over to the pond to get a sip of water. "Yup" I replied, as I followed him slowly. As we were drinking, I glanced over at Jay and had a wonderful idea to get my mind off the whole being scolded thing. "Hey Jay" I said as I raise my head from the pond. "What" said Jay as he continued to drink. "Want to see who can catch the most fish??" I said in an excited voice. Jace slowly raised his head from the pond and looked at me before a grin slowly appeared on his face as he said "well that wouldn't be fair. How about it's you against everyone else here". I paused then I stared at this small dragon that had such confidence before I smacked him in the face and said "now that is unfair".

in response to the hit, he tumbled and rolled like a ball before flopping on the ground. "Really" he said as he stared at me with a pout on his face. I chuckled before I looked at him and said "you can have two teammates, it would be me against you three, that should be good right?". Jay grinned and said "it can be anyone of the children right" I nodded in confirmation as I watched him jolt from the ground and dashed towards the crowd.

As I waited, I had a gut feeling I had done something wrong and soon after I was proven right. When Jay was done picking his teammates, I had never expected him to pick teenagers. "Hay that's not allowed" I said, as I saw him trot over with a night fury and light fury slowly walking behind him. "You said I could pick any two children. The adults categorize teenagers as children" said Jay in a smug tone as he looked at me mischievously. I couldn't argue with that as I stared at Lucas and Maria that were slowly walking behind him with grins on their faces.

"There's not even a prize for winning. Why did you even decide to join?" I asked as I stared at the two dragons that were walking over. "Jacob here promised us all the fish we caught, including that of the losers if we won" said Lucas as he arrived in front of the pond and sat down. I glared at Jay before I sighed in defeat and said "fine but no sabotage". I quickly then looked at the group of children who were being taken care of by now only two dragons. -it should be fine- I thought before I turn back at the group and said "you ready?".

In response, I got nods and hums of confirmation and then I said "ok get ready" with this I got into a pouncing position at the Waters edge. "set" I gripped the floor as I got ready for my soon to be major dash into the water. "GO" and with that we all bolted into the water as fast as we could. Without stopping or looking back to see if Jay was in the water or not, I quickly swam to a group of fish before opening my mouth and extending my teeth from my gums. -I have to be as quick as possible- I thought as I slammed my mouth down as fast as possible on as many fish as possible.

I had cot three before I quickly turned around and swim as fast as I could to the shore using my wings as well as my tail. I rocked out of the water onto the shore as I slid across the floor, placing my fish on the ground and quickly running back into the water, diving in the process. We all kept doing this for about an hour before we all decided it was time to go back up and count our fish to see who was the winner. I was excited and exhausted as I made it to shore with one remaining fish in my mouth. The others also seem to have a fish except for Jay as we went to our piles and placed them there.

We all seemed exhausted as I almost collapse to the floor around my pile of fish before I could even count them. "Man, I'm exhausted" I said, as I huffed a sigh of relief at the games end. I looked over to see that the other participants weren't fairing much better. -I better have won, there is no way I'm going back in there to get dinner- I thought as I stared daggers at the pile of fish the others had caught. "Let's begin counting" I said as I raise my head and got my body into a sitting position once again. As we counted I again snook a peak at their fish before my face began to fall.

-They totally won, didn't they- I thought as I stared at all three piles. -ya there's no way I won this- I continued to think as I continued to count my stack of large fish. -no way, all this fish for the picking and I can't even have one- I thought as I counted the last fish in my pile. I had 79 fish in total, it was the largest stack of fish compared to the other contestants but then again the other contestants were on the same team.

I sighed at my impending defeat as I looked at the others as they finish their counting of fish. "Ok, voice your numbers" I said in an apathetic voice as I stared daggers at Jay. "I got 64" said Lucas with a proud smile on his face. My face immediately fell at this as I thought -yup already more then half way to my number-. "Next" I said looking at the night fury now. "I got 42" said Maria in a relaxed manner. She looked less exhausted than everyone else. -she totally took her time- I thought before looking at Jay with eyes that seem to say "you're going hungry tonight".

I then said "next" once again as I continue to stare at Jay, who seemed to be incredibly nervous now. -ya, you realize what you have done now don't you- I thought as a looked at Jay's nervous behavior. "I umm I got 23 in total" said Jay with a nervous tone of voice. I sighed at this and said "right, I got 79 you guys win". The other dragons, except for Jay immediately began to cheer at there win as they approached my fish and swiped it away with their tail. I then looked at Jay and said "ya, you bet there will be no fish dinner for you".

I then walked over to Jay, sat in front of him and said "you're getting your own meal tonight" then I looked up at the sky. it looked to be about midday now as the sun was still shining brightly in the sky. Before long, I stopped staring at the sky as an idea came to mind, as I unfolded my wings and looked at my spread out black bat like wings. -I can fly- I thought as I began to slowly flap them, then I looked at Jay and said "we should so learn to fly". Jay was shocked for a moment before quickly nodding his head in response.

-He was probably suffocated by the silence of me staring at the sky for so long- I thought as I looked at the two teenagers that were giddy over their giant stack of fish. "Should we invite the children and teenagers along with us?" I asked Jay as I turned my head back at him. "The more the merrier" said Jay with a smile on his face. I nodded my head before I said "ok then let's go ask them". Jay too nodded his head as we began to walk towards the two teenagers.

"Hey guys" I called as weapproached them. "Ya what's up?" Said Maria as she turned her black head towards us. "Oh, was just wondering if you wanted to accompany us to a clearing to learn how to fly" I said as I looked at the two teens. They both seem shocked at my suggestion before looking at each other and quickly nodding their heads and saying " that's going to be fun" with big grins on their faces. Lucas then looks at his wings as he begins to slowly flap them, and excitement before he looks at the group of children and said "can we bring the children along?". I chuckled at this and said "we were just about to ask them after asking you". Lucas smiled about this before he said "ok, I'm going to go ask them, you guys wait here" before he dashed off in the direction of the small group of children and teens.

The three of us sat in silence as we waited for Lucas to come back. It didn't take long as he came back with the group of children and teenagers that were all excited. "So where are we going?" Ask a teen male night fury, his skin pitch black with his markings, showing hints of blue with purple colored eyes. "We're going to the other side of the pond, Liam" I said as I turned my head to look at the pond. Everyone nodded their heads at this, as we all began to slowly approach the pond.

"Y'all ready to learn how to fly" I asked the children in a childish voice as I lowered my head. The children all seem to smile at this as I heard a collective shout of "YAH". I nodded my head with a smile as I rose back to my original height, and said "then let's go" before I dove back into the water. The others followed along as we swam at a leisure pace with two teenagers in the back and two teenagers on each side of the children and me and Jay leading the way.

I was excited as we were going to finally learn how to fly through the clouds, but safety would be first, so we will always be pointed at the water when we try to flap our wings. As we swim and the closer we got to the other side of the pond the more eager I grew. I couldn't wait to finally spread my wings and sore through the clouds. I was beginning to daydream about my glory days in the clouds as I struck fish from above like a seagull or ocean bird that dives into the water to snatch its unassuming pry before coming back up and flying back into the air.

We finally made it to the shallows after a while and I quickly turned my head to see the children were still following. They were right behind us, - I seemed to have swim at a good pace for them to keep up- I thought as I continue to walk out of the water and onto the shore.
