Chapter 89
Chapter 89
“What’s that?”
Seo Woojin titled his head.
“What do you mean?”
He asked.
If someone had been beside Briani, it would have been a rude gesture deserving of a rebuke.
But she just glanced at Seo Woojin as if he were cute.
“Didn’t Martes tell you?”
“Oh, yes. She just said Grand Duke would tell you….”
Seo Woojin responded by averting his gaze at Briani’s dizzying appearance
“It’s nothing much.”
Her eyes drew a line.
It was a playful sight, but it even looked graceful.
‘A noblewoman, indeed.’
It was like pulling the image of a female protagonist straight out of a romance novel.
“I just have something to pass on to Martes.”
Seo Woojin made a puzzled expression.
So, it meant simply running an errand to deliver something.
‘Did she send me to do that?’
It’s a request involving ten ‘Summoning Stones.’
Hearing Martes’ words, he thought it would be a simple request, but isn’t this too easy even for that?
‘Why send me for something that anyone at Sky Tower could do?’
The easier it was, the better it was for Seo Woojin.
But he still didn’t understand.
Seeing Seo Woojin’s puzzled expression, Briani snapped her finger.
Snap!
He snapped back to attention.
“I know what you’re thinking, but in reality, it’s not that easy.”
“What do you mean…?”
“I’ll show you myself.”
With a bashful smile, she pointed behind Seo Woojin.
“What?”
When did it appear?
There was definitely something large behind him that wasn’t there just a moment ago.
Seo Woojin instinctively realized that it appeared when Briani snapped her finger.
‘Supernatural Abilities, indeed.’
It wasn’t magic.
There was no sense of magical energy flowing.
Of course, there was a possibility that it was a high-dimensional magic beyond Seo Woojin’s perception.
But Seo Woojin thought it was a different kind of ability from that.
‘Like psychic powers?’
He still wasn’t sure.
Especially what kind of ability she possessed.
Since directly asking would be rude, Seo Woojin asked another question.
“What’s this?”
It looked about a meter wide and long.
It was covered in black cloth, so the inside couldn’t be seen.
“Won’t you take a look inside?”
Briani gestured towards it with her chin.
Although he was reluctant, he thought it would be wise to check the contents if he was going to run an errand, so he stood up from his seat.
Slightly tense, he grabbed the edge of the cloth.
“What could it be?”
In terms of shape, it seemed to be a large box….
Swoosh-
By Seo Woojin’s hand, the cloth was pulled down to the ground.
And what was inside was revealed.
The first thing that caught his eye was the iron bars.
Not a box, but a large iron bar made of iron.
But inside it, someone was trapped.
“…Dark Elf.”
Sharp ears on black skin.
Followers of the demon lord who clashed with the empire whenever they went on a purge.
Was he fifteen years old?
His face still looked young.
Seo Woojin’s eyes narrowed.
“Are you surprised?”
Briani asked, looking at him with curious eyes.
“A little?”
He couldn’t have imagined he’d be delivering a Dark Elf, after all.
The Dark Elf trapped behind bars glared at Seo Woojin and Briani with hostile eyes.
But his mouth was gagged, and his body was restrained, so he couldn’t move.
“You know that Dark Elves follow the Demon Lord, right?”
“Yes, I know.”
He couldn’t have not known.
“That child seems to be the same.”
It seemed so.
The Dark Elf looked back and forth between Seo Woojin and Briani with a gaze full of hostility.
“But there’s something a bit strange about him.”
“Strange?”
“I can’t answer because it’s not something I can tell you.”
Briani chuckled and shook her head.
“Anyway, I was about to ask Martes to look into it because it bothered me. It seems I’ve entrusted that to you.”
“…Wouldn’t it be better to just have the servants move it?”
Rather than going through the trouble himself and even receiving compensation.
“It’s not an easy task, as I mentioned.”
Briani raised her finger, pointing at the Dark Elf.
“There have been ongoing attempts to rescue that child. It’s quite annoying, to be honest.”
Seo Woojin’s expression became serious.
It must be annoying for the Grand Duke to mention it.
If she were on par with a Sword Saint or the Mage, then it wouldn’t be just a nuisance.
As Seo Woojin’s expression grew serious, Briani spoke as if to reassure him not to worry.
“No need to make that face. If you’re as strong as I think, taking this lad to Sky Tower shouldn’t be too difficult.”
It was a request made under the assumption that a wizard would come.
But a hero had come.
It was a much greater force than initially anticipated.
Even if Dark Elves were to swarm in to rescue him, he could surely handle it.
“I’ll even offer some of my knights, so it shouldn’t be too dangerous.”
It won’t be easy, but it won’t be too difficult either.
That’s the extent of it.
Seo Woojin nodded at Briani’s words.
‘This should be enough to receive the ‘Summoning Stones.’’
Thinking of it as fair compensation for his labor, he felt somewhat relieved.
“So, when can we depart?”
In his heart, he wanted to move right away.
That way, he could receive the compensation quickly and continue his training.
But Briani looked a bit embarrassed.
“I also want to send you off as soon as possible, but I have some things to attend to, so it’ll be difficult to leave immediately. How about we stay here for tonight and leave tomorrow morning?”
It sounded like she was suggesting to spend a bit more time leisurely, so he coughed awkwardly.
“Understood. Then, I’ll prepare to leave tomorrow.”
“Thanks. Is there anything you’d like? Martes will take care of you to some extent, but it feels a bit off to send you away empty-handed after you’ve come all this way.”
Seo Woojin’s eyes sparkled.
“A copy of the ‘Summoning Stone?'”
“Huh? We don’t have that. There are only a few in Sky Tower, right?”
Seo Woojin’s expression fell disappointedly.
It seemed difficult to obtain, just as he thought.
“Well then….”
As Seo Woojin pondered, Briani clapped her hands and exclaimed.
“Oh, I have just the thing!”
“Huh?”
“Just wait a moment. I have a few things that could be helpful in war anyway.”
Briani, who was slightly closing her eyes, flicked her finger once again.
“This is….”
This time, he clearly saw it.
Something appeared in her hand out of nowhere.
It was still an ability whose identity he couldn’t grasp, but it definitely wasn’t magic.
Rather, it resembled the skills of heroes.
“Here, take it.”
What Briani handed over was a round bracelet.
It was a simple silver bracelet with no special decorations.
As Seo Woojin stared at it as if asking what it was, Briani continued to explain.
“It’s a bracelet embedded with Mage-grade magic.”
There was a slight flinch from Irene beside him.
He didn’t understand it well, but it seemed to be an impressive item.
“It’s enchanted with the spell ‘Heavenly Wings,’ which grants permanent flight.”
An enchanted item?
“Originally, I was going to give it to one of my own, but I think you’ll make better use of it.”
“T-Thank you.”
Seo Woojin accepted it readily for the time being.
Judging from Irene’s expression, it seemed to be quite a valuable item.
“Use it well.”
Briani smiled as she got up from her seat.
“Well then, rest well today. I’ll inform Rumas, so if you need anything, you can ask him anytime.”
With her characteristic graceful steps, she left the reception room.
When only the two of them were left, Seo Woojin asked Irene.
“What kind of magic is ‘Heavenly Wings’ that surprised you so much?”
As she watched the wings in Seo Woojin’s hand in silence, she spoke up.
“It’s a magic called ‘Heavenly Wings.’ As the name suggests, wings sprout from your back when you use the spell.”
“Oh, really?”
Seo Woojin looked at the bracelet with a fascinated expression.
But he didn’t feel particularly impressed.
Seeing Briani and Irene’s reactions, it seemed like it was something more extraordinary….
‘It’s just a flashy item, isn’t it?’
It might look cool, but when he thought about its usefulness, it didn’t feel particularly valuable.
Irene, noticing his demeanor, nodded.
“Of course, flying with the wings is useful, but there’s a really important ability it has.”
By this point, Seo Woojin was curious.
Just how impressive of an item was it?
“It has a time limit of 10 minutes, but….”
As Irene was choosing her words, she continued.
“In summary, it enhances the overall abilities of the magic user.”
“How much of an enhancement are we talking about?”
It meant it was an instant buff item.
‘Buff sounds good. If it looks cool and has good effects, it’s perfect.’
And Seo Woojin’s eyes widened at Irene’s following words.
“It can increase from at least double to up to five times. Of course, the time limit decreases and there are side effects accordingly.”
He couldn’t say anything.
***
“It’s about time to move.”
Gerald opened his eyes.
His body felt at its peak.
With ample rest, his magic was full, and his physical strength overflowed.
With this level, he could handle at least one Mage.
As Gerald rose from his seat, he reached out to one side.
Swish—thud!
The massive axe hanging on the wall flew into his hand.
The Marauder, ‘Tarke.’
A cursed weapon that had grown by consuming the blood and lives of countless foes.
It was Gerald’s favorite.
He smiled satisfactorily, feeling the ominous energy in his hand.
“The last plan failed because of the Sword Saint.”
It was too regrettable.
They could have fed ‘Tarke’ with the Empire’s knights and warriors.
But because of that strange hero and the Sword Saint, the plan they had been preparing for so long went awry.
“However, today’s mission will be a success.”
To eliminate one of the Five Guardians.
It could reduce the Empire’s military power and bring about significant chaos.
“The time is near.”
When his master would drive out these filthy hypocrites and purify the world.
To ensure that they walked an even slightly easier path, today he must cut off the Grand Duke’s head without fail.
Hoo—
A long breath escaped him.
At the same time, a nauseating and viscous magic began to spread.
“Number twelve.”
Whispering quietly, Number Twelve emerged from his shadow.
“Are you ready?”
“As soon as you give the order, we can immediately incapacitate the Empire’s bastards.”
“We’ll need to shed enough blood.”
“The rivers of blood will flow in Mernotain today.”
“That will suffice.”
A cruel smile spread across Gerald’s dark face.
With ‘Tarke’ slung over his shoulder, he spoke.
“Show hell to the fools.”
“As you command.”
Number Twelve concealed himself once more.
Gerald, too, began to move.
At the end of the direction he was heading lay the Grand Duke’s castle.
