chapter 104
EPISODE 104
“That’s okay, Hee-Na. If it was a gruesome scene to watch, I would have blindfolded you first.”
The firm voice was reassuring.
“……Is that so?
Well, Kang jin-hyeon wasn’t the kind of man to show Hee-na anything gruesome.
He narrowed his eyes and glanced at his feet. The scene was clean, without a single bloodstain.
Instead, there was a lump of crushed mud. The fluffy fur was nowhere to be seen.
Hee-Na asked shakily.
“Is this the rabbit?”
“Yes. It’s a low-level monster that lowers its guard in a small, cute form and then attacks its opponent unexpectedly.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me about it earlier?”
“It’s Hee-Na who didn’t listen to me because she was distracted by the rabbits.”
“…….”
I tried to grumble in a raspy voice, but the rebuttal that flew straight at me left me speechless, so I clamped my mouth shut.
And so it was. It was Hee-na who had missed Kang’s explanation, mesmerized by the sight upon entering the dungeon.
But Hee-na had her reasons.
“It wasn’t a dungeon, it was like heaven!
It was like a fairy tale.
How could anyone not be mesmerized by the shamrock hills and cute little bunnies?
At least not Hee-Na, who loves the little fluffy things!
“But what if you grabbed one of the rabbits and told me to beat it up because it was a monster? Imagine my surprise!
Hee-na glanced at the man standing next to her.
His arms were crossed and he was staring at Baduk as he ran up the shamrock hill.
The dog was rolling around in the grass, happy to be out for a long walk.
Oooooooh!
……Then, out of nowhere, he was slapped by a mud monster protruding from a cracked rabbit’s head.
“Ugh.”
Hee-Na took a step back in horror at the sight.
“Wasn’t it just a rabbit on the outside and a monster on the inside?
Meanwhile, Kang jin-hyeon thought that Hee-na was worried about Go, so he kindly explained the situation.
“It’s okay, it’s low-ranked, so it won’t do any harm to Baduk.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. It’s one of the lowest-ranked and safest dungeons in the country. It should be enough to break Hee-na’s quest, and…….”
He hesitated for a moment before finishing.
“I chose this place because the scenery is clean and beautiful, and I think you’ll like it.”
Hee-Na looked at him with wide eyes.
“Because you thought I’d like it?”
“Yes. You liked the open plains so much the last time we went there.”
He seemed to remember Hee-Na’s delight at the dungeon they’d visited on their last walking quest.
“Ah, I didn’t realize you thought of that…….”
Hee-na looked at Kang Jin-hyeon’s sideways glance in surprise. His face was impassive without any change in expression.
But Hee-na, who sees Kang jin-hyeon every day, can now read his inner thoughts.
“He’s shrugging.
For some reason, his earlobes seemed to be a little redder than usual.
“……Anyway, there doesn’t seem to be a more appropriate place for Hee-na’s quest than here. Let’s leave Baduk alone and go catch some monsters.”
I glanced over at Baduk, who was still scowling at the rabbit-shaped mud monster.
But the monster was dodging nicely through the spinning leaves.
“It’s going to take us quite a while to fulfill the 50 monsters allotted for the quest, and there’s also the matter of Hee-na’s health and strength.”
Kang jin-hyeon snatched a passing rabbit like an eagle.
The rabbit squirmed on its feet, realizing it couldn’t easily escape his grasp, and then it revealed itself.
This time, its belly split open and the mud monster popped out……
Bam!
but with a single punch from Kang Jin-hyun, it reverted to its rabbit form and fainted.
He shook the stunned rabbit non chalantly.
“First, we’ll train your striking sensation, and then I’ll teach you how to move and attack directly.”
He seemed to had his curriculum in his head.
“Don’t be fooled by appearances, be serious.”
Suddenly, Kang became a stern instructor, advising.
“Yes, yes. Got it!”
Hee-na quickly clutched the SSS-grade newspaper.
The best hunter would teach her how to fight, but she couldn’t listen to him in vain.
* * *
“Tough!”
Today, Hee-Na flopped down on the floor as soon as she entered the front door.
“It’s not good for your body to lie on the floor, Hee-na.”
Kang jin-hyeon picked her up like a piece of waste paper and placed her on the sofa.
She had gotten used to being touched like this.
“Ugh.”
Hee-na was sprawled on the couch like wet laundry.
It had been a week since she’d gotten a special lesson from Kang Jin-hyun.
The training, which had started with punching a stunned rabbit monster, had become quite intense.
I was now learning how to hit moving objects efficiently.
Before I knew it, the quest was taking a bit of a back seat.
Of course, I didn’t completely forget about Hee-Na’s quest, because towards the end of the training, I was able to catch a few monsters and hit them with my final blow.
Required Quest: Defeat 50 monsters using the ‘Exterminate Pests’ skill (31/50)
Like a baby bird eating its mother’s food, you’ve been hitting one monster, then two, and before you know it, you’ve hit 31 out of 50.
I realized that if I continued with the lessons at this rate, I would be able to complete the quest within a month at the latest.
‘I wondered if I could finish Mr. Qin Hyun’s combat class before then? Shouldn’t it take a lifetime of lessons to win his heart?
Hee-na shook her head as she remembered Kang Jin-hyun’s eyes watching her movements.
‘His eyes were like the eyes of a five-colored horse running at full speed!
That must mean that Hee-na’s physical appearance was terrible.
‘Compared to an S-class Hunter, it’s no wonder that a C-class Housekeeper’s attack power looks worse than a snail’s antennae.’
Hee-na rationalized and blamed Kang Jin-hyeon’s high standards.
Still, it wasn’t all bad news. Hee Na and Kang Jin Hyeon discovered a few hidden qualities of the ‘Exterminate Pests’ skill.
“It’s related to domestic peace, so it’s kind of altruistic.
The Pest Extermination skill has a higher attack power when used for the sake of the family rather than Hee-na herself.
In other words, the more you cared about your family, the more powerful it was.
Hee-Na thought back to the time when her brother was imprisoned in a forced labor camp.
“That’s why you were able to stun anyone who tried to harm him with a single blow.
She wondered how he was able to take out a professional hunter with the insufficient stats of a D-ranked housekeeper.
At the time, I thought it was because of the good dagger Kang jin-hyeongave me, but Hee-na’s ‘Exterminate Pests’ skill must have played a role as well.
‘But that was the kind of power I can only unleash when my family was in danger, so it was useless for self-defense.
While she was muttering to herself about her skills, Kang jin-hyeon set out a tray with go bong rice and side dishes and pushed it in front of Hee-na.
“Here, eat.”
This was to replenish Hee-na’s stamina, which had been drained by the ‘Bapshim’ skill.
“Wash your hands first with a towel.”
I didn’t forget to be meticulous about cleanliness.
“Thank you, Mr. Jin-hyeon.”
Hee-na wiped her hands with a towel and looked at Kang jin-hyeon with a newfound interest.
“This was the guy who couldn’t carry a coffee cup or fluff a quilt.
And now, he was setting the table for her and providing her with a towel to wipe her hands.
It seems that it was true that he was acting like a fool in his daily life because he couldn’t sleep or eat well.
Under Hee-na’s careful care, Kang jin-hyeon was now a man of his word.
“I’ll eat well.”
He scooped up a large spoonful of white rice and popped it into his mouth. With each spoonful of rice, he could feel the energy returning to his body.
“Ugh. I’ll live to eat.”
Hee-na patted her stomach and stretched cheerfully.
Beep, beep, beep!
The alarm on Kang Jin-hyeon’s waistband started beeping urgently.
“Surprise!”
Hee-Na covered her ears in surprise at the sudden alarm.
“It’s okay.”
Kang jin-hyeon reassured her and pressed the pager button. Soon, the noisy house quieted down.
“This is an emergency call.”
“An emergency call?”
“Yes. Hunters in the neighborhood are notified when there’s an emergency.”
He finished his brief explanation and left the room to change clothes.
It took him only a few minutes to change into the battle dress he usually wore to and from the guild.
“I should probably get going.”
Hee-na followed closely behind Kang jin-hyeon as he hurried out the front door.
“Wee, is it dangerous, and when will you be back?”
