House of the Wolves

Chapter 27: Prologue: A Man must forge his own path

The victory in Silesia effectively wiped away the growing hegemony of Atlanterra in the region. According to their peace treaty, in exchange for letting them keep their island territories such as Mako Huna, any military force deemed unnecessary for the protection of these island would be seen as a sign of aggression and desire to execute another war.

While this is seen by the public as an acceptable concession, anyone with enough knowledge about diplomacy and military tactics would know that this is nothing more than an agreement that both Ostadonia and Atlanterra reached after exhausting themselves of both manpower and resources. In truth, Ostadonia can do nothing if Atlanterra wishes to raise another invasion force, just as Atlanterra can do nothing if Ostadonia wishes to break through their now severely weakened defenses in Silesia to directly attack their mainland.

In a way, their situation can be considered as a "Stalemate"... a state where they are locked against each other in a lose-lose situation and the best course of action is literally "no action".

Unlike these two countries, such a situation doesn't exist between the side of Baron Fenris Bougainvillea and those that have noticed and are opposing his growing strength and influence.

Like a lone wolf, cornered but not broken of spirit, Baron Bougainvillea is not in a lose-lose situation. For someone like him who used to live at the bottom of the pecking order, discriminated against because of his family's social position and poverty, and most of all, colluded against due to their weakness...

"He has everything to win and nothing to lose... What kind of idiot would try to face a monster like that?"

Such are the words of the man who will soon know him as who he is now.
