House Of The Dragon: Sweet Sister

Chapter 5: -5-

Aelora sat on a stone bench, a content smile gracing her lips as she cradled a giggling toddler in her arms—little Joffrey.

"Look at you, little brother," Aelora cooed, her voice soft and melodic as she adjusted the flower crown that adorned Joffrey's curly hair. The crown was a playful creation of daisies and violets, lovingly crafted by Aelora herself. Joffrey clapped his tiny hands, his laughter ringing out like a sweet melody, filling Aelora's heart with warmth.

Joffrey's eyes sparkled with mischief as he reached for a nearby blossom, attempting to grasp it with his small fingers. "Flower!" he exclaimed, his voice a mix of delight and determination. Aelora chuckled softly and leaned down, helping him pick the flower from the bush.

"Yes, it's a flower," she said, holding it up for him to see. "A beautiful one, just like you."

The toddler beamed, and Aelora felt a swell of affection for the little boy. She had always loved children, and there was something special about the bond she shared with Joffrey. He was a joyful spirit, full of energy, and his laughter was infectious.

As she played with him, Jacaerys stood on the balcony of the castle, his gaze drawn to the enchanting scene unfolding below. The sight of Aelora cradling Joffrey stirred something deep within him. He leaned against the stone railing, a smile creeping onto his face as he watched them together.

In that moment, Jacaerys found himself drifting into a daydream, imagining a future where Aelora would carry their own child in her arms. He envisioned her with the same radiant smile, the same tenderness, nurturing their little one with love and care. The image filled him with a warmth that spread through his entire being, a vision of happiness that felt so real he could almost hear the laughter of their child.

"What are you smiling about?" Lucerys's voice broke through his reverie, and Jacaerys turned to see his brother approaching, a teasing grin on his face.

"Just watching Aelora and Joffrey," Jacaerys replied, a hint of wistfulness in his tone. "They seem so happy."

Lucerys followed his brother's gaze, spotting Aelora in the garden. "She's great with him," he commented, leaning against the railing beside Jacaerys. "You can see how much she enjoys it."

"She would make an incredible mother," Jacaerys said, his voice filled with sincerity. "I can picture it, Lucerys—Aelora carrying our child, nurturing and loving them just like she does with Joffrey."

Lucerys raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk dancing on his lips. "Oh really? So you're already envisioning a family with her?"

Jacaerys felt his cheeks warm, but he didn't shy away from the topic. "I can't help it. Being with her makes me think about the future, about what it could be like. Aelora brings out the best in me, and I want to build a life with her."

"You're serious about this, aren't you?" Lucerys asked, his tone shifting to something more contemplative. "You really see a future with Aelora?"

"More than anything," Jacaerys confessed, his heart racing at the thought. "I want to create a family with her, a home filled with love and laughter. I can see our children running through these gardens, playing among the flowers, just like Joffrey."

Lucerys chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "You're quite the romantic, brother. But you know there are complications. Family politics, expectations… it's not as simple as just wanting it."

"I know that," Jacaerys replied, his expression turning serious. "But I believe in what we have. Aelora deserves a chance at happiness, and I want to be the one to give it to her. We can face whatever challenges come our way."

As they spoke, Jacaerys's gaze returned to Aelora, who was now playfully tossing flower petals into the air, her laughter mingling with Joffrey's delighted squeals. The sight tugged at his heartstrings, and he felt a renewed sense of determination.

"Just don't get too ahead of yourself," Lucerys cautioned, a teasing glint in his eyes. "You haven't even asked her yet."

"I will," Jacaerys promised, a fire igniting within him. "But watching her with Joffrey… it makes me realize how perfect she would be as a mother. I want to explore this feeling, to see where it leads."

Lucerys nodded, his expression turning thoughtful. "Just be careful, Jacaerys. Emotions can cloud judgment, especially in matters of the heart."

"I will be careful," Jacaerys assured him, his gaze still fixed on Aelora as she twirled in the sunlight, Joffrey giggling in her arms. "But I won't let fear hold me back. I want to embrace this feeling."

The bond between the brothers deepened as they shared their thoughts on love and family, the understanding of their emotions weaving an unspoken connection. Jacaerys felt grateful for Lucerys's presence, knowing he would support him as he navigated the complexities of his feelings for Aelora.

Meanwhile, in the garden, Aelora continued to cherish her time with Joffrey. The toddler was full of energy, reaching for the petals Aelora tossed into the air, his laughter ringing out like music. She felt a sense of joy and purpose in this simple moment, her heart swelling with affection for the little boy in her arms.

"You're going to grow up to be strong and brave, just like your father," she whispered to Joffrey, her voice filled with warmth. "And you'll have a wonderful life filled with love."

As she spoke, Aelora couldn't help but think of her own dreams and desires. She had always longed for a family, a place where love reigned above all else. The thought of a future with Jacaerys—of sharing laughter, joy, and perhaps even children—filled her with hope.

Back on the balcony, Jacaerys watched as Aelora's gentle demeanor seemed to radiate warmth. He felt an overwhelming urge to join her, to be close to her, to share in the joy that she brought to others. "I'm going to go down," he declared suddenly, determination in his voice. "I want to be with her."

"Go get her, brother," Lucerys encouraged, stepping aside as Jacaerys made his way down the stairs.

As Jacaerys approached the garden, the sight of Aelora laughing with Joffrey filled him with a sense of longing and affection. "Aelora!" he called, his voice warm and inviting.

Aelora turned her head, her face lighting up with a smile. "Jacaerys! Come join us!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling like the sun.

Jacaerys knelt beside her, completely captivated by the scene before him. Joffrey reached out with tiny hands, and Jacaerys couldn't help but chuckle. "Look at him! He's getting so big," he said, his heart swelling as Joffrey giggled at the sound of his voice.

"He is," Aelora agreed, her gaze shifting between Jacaerys and Joffrey. "He's such a joyful spirit. It's hard not to smile when I'm with him."

Aegon sat in the dim light of his chambers, a heavy silence enveloping him. The once-vibrant room felt stifling, the air thick with unspoken thoughts and unfulfilled desires. Gone were the days when he would lose himself in the revelry of the pleasure houses, seeking fleeting distractions from the weight of his responsibilities. Now, those nights felt like a distant memory, overshadowed by the presence of one name: Aelora.

He leaned against the window, gazing out at the sprawling city of King's Landing. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the rooftops, but Aegon felt cold inside. Each passing day without Aelora felt like an eternity, and he couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that gnawed at his heart. The laughter of courtiers and the bustle of life below felt like a cruel reminder of what he had lost.

"If only I had fought harder," he whispered to himself, the words barely escaping his lips. "If only I had stood up against Mother when she forced me to marry Helaena." The thought of his marriage felt like chains binding him, pulling him deeper into a pit of despair. He longed for Aelora, for the warmth of her smile, the sound of her laughter, and the way she made him feel alive. But the reality of his situation loomed large, casting a shadow over his thoughts.

He sank into his chair, running a hand through his disheveled hair as memories of Aelora flooded back to him. The kindness in her eyes, and the moments they had shared together seemed like fragments of a dream he could no longer grasp. Aegon felt a sharp pang of regret. He had let his mother's wishes dictate his life, and now he was trapped in a marriage that felt like a prison.

As he sat in solitude, lost in his thoughts, the door to his chambers creaked open, and Alicent stepped inside. "Aegon," she began, her voice tentative, "may I come in?"

Aegon looked up, surprise flickering in his eyes. "Mother," he replied, his tone flat. He wasn't in the mood for a reconciliation, not when the wounds of their previous arguments still felt fresh.

Alicent crossed the room, her expression a mixture of concern and determination. "I know things have been difficult between us, but I wanted to talk. I want to understand what you're feeling."

"What I'm feeling?" Aegon echoed, a bitter edge creeping into his voice. "You mean what I'm forced to endure? You mean the weight of a life I never chose?"

"Aegon, please," Alicent implored, her voice softening. "I never intended for you to feel trapped. I thought marrying Helaena would secure our family's future."

"Secure our family's future?" he scoffed, rising from his chair. "What about my happiness? What about what I want? You made this choice for me, and now I'm left to suffer the consequences."

"I did what I thought was best for you and our family," Alicent said, her tone firm but laced with a hint of desperation. "You cannot let Aelora consume your thoughts. This obsession is unhealthy, Aegon."

"Obsession." Aegon repeated, anger flaring within him. "Is that what you think this is? I don't obsess over Aelora because I want to; I care about her. She makes me feel alive, something I haven't felt in a long time."

Alicent's brow furrowed, and she took a step closer, her voice rising. "And what about Helaena? You have a duty to your wife, Aegon! You cannot just abandon her for a fleeting infatuation!"

Aegon shot back, his heart racing. "You think my feelings for Aelora are just a passing fancy? You don't understand! I would have fought for her if I had the chance! But you—"

"I did what I thought was best for our family!" Alicent interrupted, her voice filled with frustration. "You cannot blame me for your choices! You could have accepted your marriage to Helaena, but instead, you wallow in self-pity."

Aegon laughed bitterly, the sound hollow. "You think I enjoy this? You think I wanted to be forced into a marriage that I never wanted? I feel like a prisoner in my own life!"

Alicent's expression hardened, her patience wearing thin. "Then perhaps you should have considered the consequences of your actions before allowing yourself to become so entangled with Aelora. She is not the answer to your problems, Aegon!"

"Maybe she is the only thing that makes sense in this chaotic life!" Aegon retorted, his emotions boiling over. "You don't understand what it's like to be trapped, to feel like you have no control over your own destiny."

Just then, the door opened again, and Helaena stepped into the room, her presence quiet and unassuming. She glanced between Aegon and Alicent, sensing the tension that hung thick in the air. "What's going on?" she asked softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Aegon's anger faltered for a moment, and he turned to Helaena, his heart heavy. "Nothing," he replied, his tone shifting slightly. "We were just talking."

Alicent took a step back, her frustration simmering beneath the surface. "I was trying to have a conversation with your brother."

Helaena's gaze flickered to Aegon, concern etched on her features before she nod and left.

Alicent seized the opportunity to press further. "You need to realize that your actions have consequences, Aegon. You cannot allow yourself to be swayed by thoughts of someone who is not your wife. Your duty is to Helaena."

"But what if my heart is somewhere else?" Aegon countered, frustration creeping back into his voice. "What if I can't just turn my feelings off like a switch?"

Alicent's gaze hardened. "You must try! You cannot let Aelora's presence dictate your life. You have responsibilities, and you must honor them!"

"I just want to be happy," Aegon finally said, his voice breaking slightly. "But it feels like I'm being pulled in two different directions. I don't know what to do."

Alicent's expression softened for a moment, but her frustration remained. "You must find a way to reconcile your feelings with your duties. You are a prince, Aegon. You cannot afford to be reckless."

"Reckless," Aegon echoed, his voice laced with bitterness. "You think wanting to be with someone I care about is reckless? What about my happiness? Doesn't that matter?"

"It matters, but it cannot come at the expense of your responsibilities!" Alicent argued, her voice rising once more. "You must find a way to balance your feelings with the obligations of your position!"

Finally, Alicent threw her hands up in exasperation. "I cannot have this conversation with you right now, Aegon. You need to think about what I've said." With that, she turned on her heel and left the room, a storm of emotions swirling in her wake.

Aegon stood in silence, feeling the sting of his mother's words. He glanced at Helaena, who remained quietly observant. The atmosphere felt heavy, filled with unspoken words and unresolved feelings.

Aegon's mind wandered back to Aelora, and he felt a pang of regret for the choices he had made. He longed for the warmth of her presence, the laughter they had shared, and the hope she inspired within him.

Aegon sank back into his chair, the weight of his emotions crashing down on him. He felt torn between two worlds, each pulling him in different directions, and he knew he had to find a way to reconcile his feelings before it was too late.

He closed his eyes, allowing the memories of Aelora to wash over him. The sound of her laughter, the warmth of her smile—he longed for those moments again. But now, he was left with the reality of his situation, a reality that felt increasingly suffocating.
