Honkai: You're telling me this difficulty is from Honkai Impact 3?!

Chapter 87: Hunger and Serious Injuries

This shelter was quite large, apparently a warehouse for a big shopping mall before the Honkai Eruption.

There were many people in the shelter. Shu roughly estimated that the number of survivors here was likely no less than the entire student body at the academy.

In comparison, the academy felt much larger, but this place definitely had a more human feel.

However…

Shu watched a woman holding a baby, sitting on a small blanket in the corner. His gaze lingered on the woman's prominent cheekbones for a moment before he looked away.

"Shu, what are you looking at?" Kiana followed Shu's gaze curiously, then fell silent.

"They look unwell…" Shu said in a low voice.

You're the one who looks unwell… your face is so pale, you could write a big character on it.

Mei didn't say this aloud because she felt uneasy looking at the mother and child.

"They…" Mei wanted to say something, but couldn't find the right words to describe the woman's condition.

Was it sadness? Pain? Or something else that had caused the woman to look like that?

"She's hungry." Bronya said calmly, summarizing the situation for Mei.

"Hungry?" The three who had never experienced true hunger were confused.

Shu turned his head to look at the woman and the other listless people around them. Each person showed similar signs, to varying degrees.

Hollow eyes, gaunt faces… they looked quite similar to the photos Shu had seen in his research.

They just weren't as severely malnourished as the people in the photos.

"So many people… are all hungry?" Kiana asked in disbelief. For her, not having food felt like the sky was falling, let alone starving herself to that extent.

Mei also felt uncomfortable.

Bronya nodded. Shu suddenly felt that Bronya's nod was unusually cold.

No wonder Bronya was the one who noticed…

Shu remembered a phrase clearly: "Don't underestimate the child soldiers here. They learn to hold a gun before they learn to use a fork."

Shu didn't know what kind of environment could create such child soldiers, but he knew Bronya had definitely experienced true "hunger."

Shu lowered his eyes.

Looks like resources here aren't plentiful… but the guys who surrounded us, especially Yun Feng, didn't look so bad. Why is that?

Could it be that a class system has already formed here?

Shu's heart sank. Just then, they arrived at their destination.

It was a small storage room that had been emptied. A few layers of soft mats were spread out in the corner.

"This is the accommodation Brother Yun has provided for you. Food will be distributed later. You don't need to join the others; you can ask Brother Yun directly for your share." The person said at the door, showing no intention of entering the small room.

Shu was cautious. He and Bronya went in first to check the surroundings. After confirming everything was okay, they sat down on the mats.

"Thank you. We'll go if we need anything." Shu said to the person with a smile.

Once the person left, Kiana closed the storage room door. Shu immediately relaxed, leaning his head back and falling onto the mats with a groan.

"Ugh… I feel like I'm going to die. Even my P.E. teacher never made me feel this dead…"

His chest hurt, his legs hurt, and forcing himself to stand straight had made his back hurt too.

He felt like his lump was turning into a second brain!

Kiana, Mei, and Bronya, who were about to start a discussion: "…"

"Shu, are you okay?" Mei asked worriedly. "Why don't you rest first? We can wake you up if anything happens."

Shu didn't stand on ceremony. "Okay! I'll sleep first. If you guys are hungry, eat first, no need to wake me."

With that, Shu grabbed a soft mat and covered himself with it.

"Weren't you saying you weren't tired just now?" Kiana teased with a deadpan expression, but she didn't intend to drag Shu up for more fun.

She remembered that Shu was injured and had been careful not to let him carry anything heavy, worried that his old wound might reopen.

She didn't have Otto's "resurrection" abilities!

Shu didn't respond. The moment the mat covered his face, he had already drifted into a near-comatose state.

Seeing that he wasn't responding, Mei tiptoed over and gently moved the mat away from Shu's face.

After seeing Shu's pale sleeping face, Mei didn't say anything. She just put a finger to her lips to signal Kiana to be quiet, then adjusted the mat on Shu and quietly took the handgun from Shu's waist, handing it to Bronya.

"He really fell asleep?" Kiana also came closer, asking softly.

Mei nodded, and Kiana immediately made a zipping motion across her lips.

Bronya took the gun, and the three of them watched the sleeping Shu in silence.

At that moment, they all recalled a past scene.

The day before they came to Shanghai City, after Kiana asked, "You're not leaving?" Shu had paused, then asked in return, "Leave? Where else can I go?"

There was no hint of a joke in Shu's words, just complete bewilderment, and even a hint of cautious worry.

It was as if Shu, not Kiana, had been the one constantly living in fear.

Then Kiana explained why she was taking care of Shu, and Shu said, "I knew it, you're such an idiot, Kiana."

Kiana didn't argue, and instead asked another question.

"Shu, are you… really not afraid of dying?"

Shu was taken aback and couldn't help but roll his eyes.

"How could I not be afraid of dying? I'm terrified of it, okay! Why else do you think I would have shamelessly begged for protection when I first met you?"

Kiana felt like their first meeting had been misinterpreted a little.

"Then why aren't you… angry with me for almost getting you killed?"

Shu was silent for a moment, then touched his chest in surprise. "Huh? Was it that dangerous? I'm still alive, aren't I? My food still tastes good!"

Shu didn't know how serious his injury was. All he knew was that an arrow had pierced through his chest.

Thinking about the honkai beast's arrow, it wasn't even as thick as his little finger, so it probably wasn't that serious… right?

But the others who had actually seen Shu's wound fell silent. No one described how bad it was, only Otto, taking the lead, repeatedly emphasized, "You just need to know that your injuries are quite severe."

This only left Shu even more confused.
