Chapter 151: Destroying you, what’s that got to do with anything?
"This is nothing. Breaking this shell is only a matter of time. How is your side coming along?" Celenova slightly shook her head and asked.
"Hehe, The IPC is very worried about those wonderful weapons, you know."
-------------------------------------
Because it was known that the Lord Ravager Irontomb had also joined in, The IPC placed all sorts of restrictions on high-tech weapons.
To avoid the situation where, just after bringing them out, the weapons' ended up pointing at their own people.
However…
"It'll just be a bit slower, that's all." Irontomb didn't care in the least.
Unless The IPC made up its mind to resist head-on, making their people clash directly with the Antimatter Legion, sooner or later they would have to use them.
After all, Pier Point was The IPC's heart, their stronghold and concentration of countless shared interests.
If losses reached a certain degree, even The IPC would feel the pain. If they could strike at the Ten Stonehearts or even the board members…
But that was only a thought.
As Diamond's trusted subordinates, the Ten Stonehearts even had the authority of Preservation stored into their Cornerstone. For talents like these, before squeezing out every bit of their value, Diamond would never let him succeed.
...
While the two conversed, at Pier Point, war raged.
Void Rangers and mechanical structures mixed with blood and rampant smoke, only to be annihilated the next instant by powerful artillery fire.
This was still not yet Pier Point.
Until the final moment, war could not touch Pier Point.
This was their determination. The guards wholeheartedly defended the gates behind them, not letting even a spark break through.
It wasn't that they had deep affection for The IPC, only that… their loans weren't paid off yet!
The IPC treated them decently, so many had already purchased homes and property early on.
Quite a few had bought them on loans, since with The IPC's good benefits they only needed to save steadily to afford it. If they didn't buy early and prices rose later, what then?
This method was very effective, but the consequences were now fully on display.
The IPC was no charity. Since you enjoyed such good benefits, when trouble came, who else should step up if not you?
Of course, it was also related to the compensation The IPC gave for participating in this war of defense.
Survive, and the rewards were rich; die, and the death benefits were even better.
Blasting apart a Void Ranger rushing toward them, the two panted back-to-back, vigilant.
"When will we finally get to use mechs?"
"How should I know? The higher-ups won't even allow slightly stronger weapons, let alone mechs. Isn't that a joke?!"
"You two, stop complaining and get back in position! Don't you still have mortgages to pay?!"
Catching sight in the corner of the two edging farther away against the wall, the squad leader couldn't help but curse.
"Coming!"
Dodging an attack and retreating for a brief respite, the squad leader wrapped his bandages tightly, gritted his teeth, beads of sweat dripping as red blood soaked through, forming a visible circle.
The IPC had equipped each squad with portable medical devices, but in this situation, forget treatment, being lucky enough not to be pierced by a Void Ranger's arrow or struck by a mech's photon cannon was already a blessing.
If not for the vast defensive facilities set up around Pier Point, they would never have lasted this long on their own.
Looking at the chaotic battlefield and the shrinking defensive perimeter, though the reduction was minimal each time, cumulatively they were being forced back step by step.
Pier Point's outer defenses had three layers.
Currently, they were holding the antimatter legion outside the first layer, but everyone knew it was only a matter of time.
"Better to run…" the thought couldn't help but surface. Not outright desertion, but maybe he could slip into the third defensive ring, just to save his life first.
Meanwhile, in The IPC's upper ranks.
They knew the situation outside perfectly well. They wanted to change things, but for them, change required first locating the two Lord Ravagers.
Especially stopping Irontomb, that Lord Ravager.
"Has the Intelligentsia Guild not yet found a method to restrain the mechanical legion?"
"Very sorry. The opponent is an Lord Ravager. With the Intelligentsia Guild's ability, achieving the effect you desire is extremely difficult."
The Intelligentsia Guild had not had good days lately.
Though renowned throughout the cosmos, they had been funded and raised up by The IPC.
Even after many talented people from all fields later joined, lessening The IPC's influence, they still could not escape their position when facing The IPC.
The Guild had indeed gathered many who were considered geniuses by ordinary people, but that was only in ordinary people's eyes. The difference compared to an Lord Ravager was vast.
In roundabout terms, they were no more than a "club of ordinary geniuses," while the Lord Ravager was something else entirely.
The liaison with The IPC couldn't help sweating. Though he wanted The IPC to see the Guild's worth… this time was not the occasion.
And failing to restrain Irontomb meant that any high-tech weapon The IPC deployed, if it fell under his gaze, at best would be destroyed instantly, and at worst, the result went without saying.
The IPC had considered asking for outside aid, but there were simply too many things existing within Pier Point. Most could not be exposed in front of outsiders.
No one knew what kind of covetous entities those things might attract.
The IPC wasn't afraid, but repeated incursions would consume much of its energy.
Besides, among the great cosmic powers, no one knew exactly what methods others possessed. If secrets leaked, for such a vast corporation, the loss would be completely unnecessary.
At worst, they could just disregard the hidden hands behind all this and fight head-on. With The IPC's heritage, they could bear the losses.
At that moment,
"There are additional space-curvature fluctuations. The numbers are increasing… increasing exponentially!"
The incredulous tone drew many people's eyes.
Looking at the deliberately magnified screen, many faces lit with joy.
"Galaxy Rangers!"
Galaxy Rangers. Followers of the Hunt, punishing evil and upholding a common bottom line. The appearance of each Galaxy Ranger meant that injustice here would be redressed. But if such a Galaxy Ranger were to fall, and the injustice remained unpurged… then countless meteors would streak across the sky!
The revenge of the Hunt surges forward, wave after wave, never ceasing!
The starry sky flickers endlessly as ships of all shapes and forms warp into view.
Illuminating the sea of stars. Though ships keep arriving, compared to the vast Anti-Matter Legion and the Mechanical Legion, these Galaxy Rangers in their small numbers are like insignificant spray upon the waves, vanishing almost instantly before the colossal tide.
But… never underestimate any Galaxy Ranger who walks the universe alone, punishing evil and upholding justice!
"Bang!"
"Boom!"
Amid the roaring cannon fire, the Pathstriders of the Hunt reveal themselves from time to time, shattering the monsters before them with their indomitable will.
Just as the Rangers of the Hunt once pressed forward without fear, turning their will into sharp blades, piercing straight into the heart of Antimatter Legion!
...
"Tch, pretty capable, aren't you, darlings."
Boothill sneered, but seeing these fellows as reliable as ever put him at ease.
Though he bore a grudge against the IPC, though he wouldn't take the initiative to save its lackeys, stepping in against enemies when necessary wasn't a problem.
Galaxy Rangers are all loners, but loners who still have scraps of justice in their hearts…
Jing Yuan gazed at the Galaxy Rangers warping into the battlefield one after another, starlight flickering faintly in his eyes.
Everyone knew.
Jing Yuan's dream had always been to become a Galaxy Ranger, roaming freely in the vast cosmos and fighting against evil.
Even after becoming a general, his deepest wish never truly changed.
Though Penacony had seen many Galaxy Rangers descend, he himself had never truly witnessed them.
But now, he was experiencing firsthand the overwhelming will of the Hunt that burned within them!
"Wait! That one is-!"
Just as Jing Yuan was about to reminisce about his once pure and kind self, a streak of crimson suddenly flickered across the screen.
The Knight of Pure Beauty, unmistakable.
"How could he be here!"
...
"The Galaxy Rangers have also entered this war." Celenova watched the escalating battle in the distance, his tone amused.
With a casual glance…
"There's also a Knight of Pure Beauty."
"Not surprising. The Rangers had vanished for a long time. Their last recorded appearance was in Penacony, summoned by a Galaxy Ranger called Boothill."
Irontomb was unsurprised by the Rangers' participation.
These people could be seen as stubborn fools, driven by their idea of justice, they would draw their blades even against powers spanning the cosmos, or walk a path of certain death, simply to pursue the dream within their hearts.
Those who set foot on a Path were all madmen shackled by their own dreams.
Irontomb acknowledged this saying, he himself was such a man.
All who walk a Path are the same. The only difference is that the Aeons are the most stubborn, the most "obstinate" of all.
The rest are just travelers at different stages.
"Don't you have thoughts of avenging Zulo?" Irontomb looked at Celenova and chuckled.
For Celenova to become a general was already proof enough of her strength.
"A bunch of Galaxy Rangers, disappearing and reappearing out of nowhere, are hardly worth anything."
Celenova shook her head slightly, speaking calmly.
She did not regard the Galaxy Rangers on the battlefield as worthy of her concern.
Indeed, there were strong individuals among them, but none of those true elites had appeared here.
And even if they had, with their legions gathered, how could a few scattered wanderers change the tide?
After all, Irontomb was here as well.
...
With the Galaxy Rangers joining, the pressure on Pier Point lessened significantly.
But this was only because the legions had not yet unleashed their full might!
"Diamond and Taravan haven't moved yet. Clearly the IPC is determined to drag us into the fray."
Celenova, still waiting for the two Emanators of Preservation to act, glanced calmly at Pier Point.
To them, the battle below was nothing but skirmishes. The difference was, the IPC was vast, its reach extensive.
The reason they remained hidden in the shadows was simple, they were waiting for Diamond and Taravan to make their move.
These two were the only ones in the IPC they were truly vary of. As for other potential threats… either absent, or unusable for now.
At their original pace, the legions should already have advanced to the second defensive line. One of those two should have acted by then.
But because of the interference of the Galaxy Rangers, and that inexplicable Knight of Pure Beauty, the legions were stalled at the first line of defense.
Even if they were still advancing, the pace was far too slow.
On the Path of Destruction, speed was everything.
"Make your move." Irontomb said calmly.
Celenova nodded slightly, extending her right hand slowly.
...
Suddenly, those engaged in battle felt the sky darken overhead. Those with a moment's respite instinctively looked toward the direction from which the shadow fell.
"Is that… craftsmanship?"
But when they saw what it was, all those without enemies before them widened their eyes in shock, disbelief plain on their faces.
From afar, a massive meteor was hurtling toward them.
Even at a glance, its size rivaled that of an ordinary planet.
And now, this colossal meteor was bearing down on them.
"How could there be a meteorite here?!" Argenti's pupils shrank as he stared at the incoming meteorite.
"Knight of Pure Beauty, this isn't the time to think about that, hurry up and move!"
The Galaxy Ranger closest to Argenti saw him dazed and shouted loudly to snap him out of it.
"But..."
Argenti hesitated. If such a meteorite were to fall, without a doubt this defensive line would be torn open.
As time passed, the breach would only grow wider until the line was completely lost.
Taking a deep breath, Argenti opened his eyes again. This time, they were filled with resolve.
"Then let me, right here, defend Pure Beauty Idrila's truth!"
...
Naturally, Argenti couldn't possibly shatter such a massive meteorite.
His strength was impressive, but he excelled at single-target attacks. To smash a meteorite required immense energy output, and that was exactly what he lacked.
So, his solution was…
"The One and Only, prove the warmth we shoulder together!"
Boarding the The One and Only, Argenti unhesitatingly piloted his beloved ship straight toward the approaching meteorite!
The The One and Only had extremely powerful thrust, and after the ordeal with the Giant Sting, he had made some minor modifications to it.
Its sturdy hull was enough to withstand most dangers, and its tremendous propulsion was the secret to survival.
This time, however, its mission was to push the enormous meteorite off its trajectory!
Completely diverting it was impossible, but if they could just shift it slightly, their goal could be achieved!
After all, below them was a group of people fighting to protect their everything!
At that moment, several communication requests popped up. Argenti answered them in confusion, and then…
"Tsk, you really are troublesome. Are all Knight of Pure Beauty's such fools?"
"You never miss a chance to show off, do you, Knight."
"The Galaxy Rangers have been quiet for so long, there's no way we'd let you steal the spotlight in such a grand battle."
Clearly, Argenti's thoughts had been seen through. Faced with such a perfect chance to 'look cool,' the Galaxy Rangers weren't about to let a Knight of Pure Beauty have it all!
Argenti was stunned for a moment, then smiled faintly.
"I have seen the beauty of you all. As you unabashedly display your beauty, Idrila is blessing us!"
"Bang!!"
...
The meteorite was stopped!
Visibly, under the mighty thrust of several illegally modified ships, even a meteorite the size of a planet was pushed off course!
"Don't underestimate my illegally modified treasure!" The orbit shifted, and everyone exhaled in relief.
But it wasn't over. As if realizing it was being diverted from its path, the next second,
Crack!
The meteorite split!
The massive rock fractured, slowly revealing the steel body within.
"Mechagodzilla!"
Seeing the half-exposed body of the unknown being, Argenti cried out.
As the meteorite split open, it revealed a metallic Mechagodzilla!
"Hey, Knight, look around."
While Argenti was still shaken by Mechagodzilla's appearance, a Galaxy Ranger in an illegal ship reminded him to check the surroundings.
Argenti instinctively did so,
And saw dozens of meteorites cracking open, revealing scarlet eyes glowing within, Mechagodzillas!
Rumble!
A mechanical hum resounded, steam rising.
Mechagodzilla, a product of Irontomb!
But that wasn't the most shocking thing.
"A Knight of Pure Beauty huh, your will is impressive." Celenova chuckled lightly, waving toward Argenti, who was pushing away one of the Mechagodzillas.
At her feet, a gigantic mechanical planet slowly opened its eye.
A single enormous eye!
Shining with metallic light, sweeping the surroundings emotionlessly.
The Great Lord Ravager, Irontomb!
Even without having seen it before, everyone present instantly recognized the name of this terrifying lord Ravager, The existence that forbade them from using any weapons!
Celenova withdrew her gaze from Argenti and looked ahead, smiling softly.
"Diamond, a pleasure."
It wasn't that she was honored to meet Diamond, but that Diamond was honored to meet her! Celenova had the arrogance to back it up!
Finally, with two Lord Ravagers appearing together, Diamond looked at them and smiled faintly:
"Two Lord Ravagers working side by side, now that's rare. But I'd like to know why the two of you have come to Pier Point. If I recall, relations between The IPC and the Legion have been… relatively harmonious of late?"
"Destroying you, what's that got to do with anything?" Celenova covered her mouth with a soft laugh, her eyes smiling as they fixed on Diamond.
Hearing this, Diamond just shook his head with a smile. Truly, D-grade madness!
...
"Why are there so many Mechagodzillas?!"
Watching the Galaxy Rangers and Argenti teaming up to fight the Antimatter Legion, March 7th nearly spat fruit juice all over Pom-Pom from shock.
She stammered, pointing at the screen filled with Mechagodzillas…
