Chapter 67: Holy Maiden of Resurrection

After Polyxia returned to the nether realm, just like before, it was also two days later when Castorice finally appeared.

"What's wrong with my sister?" Castorice asked as soon as she arrived. "I keep feeling like there's something odd about her."

She wanted to get some answers from Lucian, but unfortunately, there were none to be found.

"Maybe after seeing how wonderful the world is, she's now longing for a new one?" Lucian made up a random excuse.

He naturally would never admit that it was because of his overbearing CEO stories that her sister had been corrupted.

"Mm, I think so too..." Castorice's confused expression softened. "I hope she can stay like this from now on..."

Seeing her like this, Lucian couldn't help but avert his gaze, feeling a bit guilty.

And so, the two of them once again set out on their journey together, continuing to save lives throughout Amphoreus. Even though Castorice still could not hug anyone else, just being able to hug Lucian was enough for her.

As they rescued more and more lives, she gradually became the one to start conversations, sharing all sorts of strange and interesting tales she had heard from the dead. Now, she laughed more often, no longer as withdrawn and indifferent as she had been.

Day after day, year after year, Lucian spent twenty years with Castorice and Polyxia in this way.

During those twenty years, they traveled across many city-states in Amphoreus, and eventually, a legend about the Holy Maiden of Resurrection began to spread.

===

Eternal Holy City of Okhema, as a city-state under the protection of the Worldbearing Titan Kephale, was one of the holy cities among the many city-states of Amphoreus.

A few years ago, the Demigod of Law, Cerydra, became the ruler of Okhema, led many Chrysos Heirs, and began the first Flame-Chase Journey.

Unfortunately, they suffered a devastating defeat, causing the Flame-Chase Journey to be put on hold.

In the end, not only did the Knight Commander of Okhema, Hysilens, disappear, but Cerydra vanished as well.

Before Cerydra left, she had entrusted the burden of Okhema to Aglaea, but at that time, Aglaea had only just become a demigod—still young and lacking in political skill.

Because of that, the Council of Elders seized the chance to strip away most of Okhema's power, continuing to suppress the faction of Chrysos Heirs under Aglaea's lead.

"Send someone to find that Holy Maiden of Resurrection! If she really can bring the dead back to life, she's the key to our return to Era Chrysea!"

Inside the conference room of Okhema's Council of Elders, several men and women had gathered to discuss a confidential matter, led by an old woman who appeared to be in her seventies or eighties.

"Elder Caenis, I heard Aglaea is also looking for that holy maiden. We have to move faster than her and send more people."

"Many city-states have already realized how important that holy maiden is. Having the power to bring back the dead—even if we can't return to Era Chrysea—we'll no longer have to fear death."

"Elder Caenis, I hope you can hold on until the holy maiden is found."

One after another, the people spoke while looking toward the old woman named Caenis.

"It's fine. I've already chosen my successor. My memories, my knowledge, and my will—all will be passed on to the next Caenis."

Human skills and knowledge—these could all be considered memories.

If they sought a miracle from the Time Titan, the Council of Elders would have a way to transform memory into some kind of tangible form, and then, using alchemy, they could pass it on to someone else.

In this way, they preserved all the skills and memories of their predecessors—sometimes, even their personalities would be completely overwritten by their predecessors.

At the same time, Aglaea was also sending her people to search for the legendary Holy Maiden of Resurrection.

"Teacher, is that legendary holy maiden really the Death Titan?"

"It's just a guess on my part... Honestly, I'm not completely sure..."

Inside the Hero's Bath, Tribbie answered Aglaea's question with a frown.

"I mean, the Death Titan has been gone for so long that people have forgotten they could not only grant death but also refuse it."

Tribbie continued, thoughtfully stroking her chin, which only made her look cuter.

"But logically, the Death Titan should be guarding the nether realm, not wandering the mortal realm, right?"

"Besides, that holy maiden always has a companion traveling with her, moving between different city-states, so I'm not certain either."

"It's a shame the way Amphoreus sends messages is so outdated..." Aglaea nodded thoughtfully. "Some information is already distorted by the time it arrives, and it's hard to tell what's true anymore... If only people could exchange information instantly..."

"Ah, that's a good idea, Agy!" Tribbie smiled brightly. "You could try to make it happen! You can definitely do it!"

Hearing her teacher's encouragement, a vague idea gradually began to take shape in Aglaea's mind.

'Maybe something could be done with my golden nymphs?'

As this thought passed through her mind, Aglaea casually released a golden beetle known as a golden nymph.

"Go on, just wander outside—though if you happen to meet the Holy Maiden of Resurrection, that would be perfect."

Okhema wasn't the only city-state taking such actions.

Other city-states were also sending their people everywhere to search for traces of the Holy Maiden of Resurrection.

Clearly, none of them wanted to die so badly.

Ever since the Death Titan came into existence, the once-immortal people of Amphoreus had lifespans, could be killed, and could die of old age. Because of this, they hated the Death Titan and wanted to destroy them, hoping to return to the so-called perfect golden age known as the Era Chrysea.

However, since they couldn't do it—or rather, since it was impossible to do it—they set their sights on the holy maiden who could bring the dead back to life instead.

If death could be undone, how was that any different from immortality?

As a result, there were more and more soldiers on the land of Amphoreus, where instead of fighting wars, they searched for the legendary holy maiden everywhere.

Ironically, thanks to the Holy Maiden of Resurrection, a temporary peace emerged between the city-states.

Somewhere in the forest near Okhema, inside a small wooden cabin.

"Lucian, did I go too far? Now everyone's looking for us."

Castorice, like a child who had done something wrong, leaned on the windowsill and gazed at the distant city-state of Okhema with a complicated expression.

"Nah, you should be happy instead." Lucian stood behind her and responded with a smile. "Now, they're not hiding from you but want to invite you to be their holy maiden."

"No, they're just after my resurrection ability..." Castorice said resignedly. "If I showed them my power to grant death, they'd keep their distance like before..."

"If the whole world stays away from you, then just turn around. I'll always be here." Lucian shrugged nonchalantly.

Hearing such sweet words, Castorice couldn't help but smile.

"Mm, I know."

Ever since Castorice became obsessed with saving people, the legend of the Holy Maiden of Resurrection had spread among the people, which stated:

—If your fate is tragic, if you hold kindness in your heart, the Holy Maiden of Resurrection will show you mercy.

Many people who had been resurrected by Castorice had even built statues of her.

Now, countless people could recognize Castorice's face at just a glance, and even her companion, Lucian, had portraits spread among the public.

As Lucian and Castorice chatted and chuckled while gazing toward the distant Okhema, a golden beetle silently crept closer and perched on a branch across from the cabin, as if it were observing the two inside.

Lucian, sensing that someone was intently watching him and Castorice, noticed the beetle—and the moment he did, a piece of knowledge quickly flashed through his mind.

He remembered that the golden beetle was known as the golden nymph of the Romance Titan—meaning Aglaea had inherited the Romance Titan's power and had become the Demigod of Romance.

In other words, this golden beetle must be Aglaea's golden nymph.

"Cas, someone will be visiting us soon." Lucian suddenly said while glancing ahead. "Let's meet her."

He decided it was time to try a new way of living.

He had spent twenty years traveling with Castorice, yet the script still hadn't been completed, so he felt it was time for a change.

"Who?" Castorice glanced at Lucian and asked curiously.

"She's the Demigod of Romance." Lucian replied, waving his hand at the golden nymph. "However, her purpose in coming isn't your power of resurrection."

===

A few minutes ago, in Okhema, Aglaea was deep in thought.

At that moment, an image appeared in her mind as she shared the senses of the golden nymph she had casually released earlier.

Through the golden nymph, she saw two people with extraordinary auras, but what mattered most was that their physical characteristics truly matched the legendary Holy Maiden of Resurrection and her companion.

As Aglaea observed the two and began to conclude they were indeed them, she saw the companion wave his hand at her golden nymph.

'He noticed me...?'

Aglaea thought in stunned silence.
