Chapter 368: Noldrei: I Thought You'd Use Them for Production.
Elysia had always wanted to see Noldrei's pony harem.
If possible, she even entertained the idea of making Noldrei's pony harem her pony harem.
"Alright everyone, this is our newest pony member and the Previous Era warrior I told you about. You can call her Elysia, or Ely. You can also use her pony name, Fluttershy."
And so, everyone erupted in applause, saying, "Omedetou!" to congratulate the newcomer, Elysia.
Though she found the scene a little strange, Elysia quickly hit it off with the group.
Kiana pulled Noldrei aside. She didn't care how many new ponies were in the house; she was far more concerned about whether Noldrei was truly responsible for all the bizarre things Cocolia had been doing.
Just look at what the psychological attacks had done to poor Bronya. Even Seele, who was always with Bronya, was on the verge of becoming a recluse.
"Why did you give Honkai fission bombs to those countries? Don't you know they'd be the first to use them?!" Kiana, who possessed a future-human body herself, had never underestimated the predictive power of such a form. She simply couldn't believe Noldrei hadn't calculated this outcome.
But Noldrei truly had no intention of calculating such things. He was simply treating every human nation with pure equality. According to his research, as long as every country possessed a nuclear-like weapon, the theoretical possibility of nuclear war would be greatly enhanced.
Something only a few nations once had was now in the hands of hundreds. The odds of a ruling class going mad would obviously increase.
"What?! The first two countries I gave them to have already started throwing them at each other?!"
Noldrei's shock was genuine. He seemed to have never imagined that the Honkai fission bombs he'd just handed out would be used so quickly.
He asked, quite perplexed, "Do they want to rule the world or something? What's the point of using them so early?"
Noldrei's question stumped Kiana. She hesitated for a moment before managing a reply, "Maybe because of religious conflicts? Or perhaps their mutual hatred runs too deep?"
Noldrei was flabbergasted. "I thought they would deter each other and enter a period of peaceful balance," he explained. "My original intention was to expand the scope of nuclear deterrence, then see which country was worst off and who would use the Honkai fission bomb first. That way, I could systematically revoke those countries' organizational authority."
He was genuinely confused, scratching his head as he asked, "Logically, this shouldn't have happened. If it's not for the sake of their own power, then there's no point in using military force to purge human society. Haven't you primitives even established the basic concepts of governance? Killing just for the sake of killing is far too primitive and backward, don't you think?"
Kiana opened her mouth, but for a moment, she didn't know how to refute him.
Noldrei had actually believed that the people of the current era could handle this batch of Honkai fission bombs freely and peacefully, which is why he gave them out. But the first two countries Cocolia delivered them to immediately used them on each other.
It sounded like a dark joke, but Mr. Future Man genuinely believed people had the rationality and ability to use Honkai fission bombs responsibly.
"Is it possible," Kiana ventured, "that you've overestimated humanity's potential?"
Kiana felt Noldrei's understanding of humanity's upper limits was far too impulsive and based on a whim.
"Here's what I was thinking... Look, the leaders of every nation know the crisis and damage the Honkai brings. The Honkai fission bomb is essentially just a human application of Honkai Energy. They already knew what kind of danger it would bring. Look at the major nuclear powers—do they just use their nukes casually? Of course not, right? So the idea that they would use Honkai fission bombs just to kill people doesn't hold water."
Noldrei's explanation was quite clear. In his view, in a world once ravaged by the Honkai, every nation understood the dangers of a Honkai crisis. Now that he had contained the spread of that crisis, he was distributing Honkai fission bombs in an equal and egalitarian manner to all nations, exporting a form of international egalitarianism.
"Dammit, these people can't even handle Honkai fission bombs properly. How can I dare to expand the gene-information society? You have to understand, humanity under a gene-information society is freer, and much harder to control. Most of the time, gene-information groups completely supersede the national organizations of this era."
"You can't even control something as stable as Honkai Energy, and you're telling me you want to manage the development of a gene-based society?"
At this point, Noldrei started getting angry with himself.
"These incompetents! I give them a chance to use Honkai Energy properly, and they use it without a second thought? I was even thinking, when I passed by and saw a Honkai Energy crisis erupting, that you all must have already baited out a Herrscher and dealt with it. I never expected some useless country would be the first to use this thing on its own people!"
"They've completely ruined my brilliant idea, those bastards!"
His Majesty the Emperor was very angry, and the consequences would be severe!
Kiana was stunned. So the guy hadn't even considered the consequences of humanity gaining widespread control over such a powerful weapon.
"Wait, what exactly did you tell Cocolia?"
Kiana suspected Noldrei was faking it, but she had no proof.
"Oh, my dear heir! Think about it! When a Honkai fission bomb detonates, it triggers a Honkai Eruption and creates a massive concentration of Honkai Energy and Honkai Crystals." Noldrei laid out his thought process. "So, a Honkai fission bomb is essentially a super-sized gold mine that can create Honkai minerals out of thin air. I specifically told Cocolia to find a country with significant internal conflicts, a large but sparsely populated territory, relative poverty, potential for improvement, and a coastal location to handle these things."
Noldrei threw up his hands and asked rhetorically, "We can't just detonate this thing in Academy City, can we? The Far East is small and densely populated. Are you going to drop a shower of Honkai Crystals on your own head?"
He makes so much sense, I can't even argue with him.
Kiana was now eighty percent convinced by Noldrei's words. It seemed plausible that he really had intended to bring wealth to other nations.
"Just think about it. A Honkai crystal mine would require people with Honkai resistance to retrieve the materials. That would create a demand for our Stigma battlesuits, which would further integrate them into Academy City's gene-information system. This would allow the gene information from within Academy City to flow outward, driving the development of the national powers we engage with."
"This was clearly a win-win-win situation! How did it end up with you people just throwing them at each other's heads and starting a fight?!"
Noldrei truly couldn't understand it. Kiana was already breaking into a cold sweat on behalf of modern humanity.
Don't say any more, please, don't say any more. I'm already reflecting... It wasn't even me who threw the bomb, so why do I feel like it's my fault?
Kiana felt a strange wave of guilt, as if she herself had committed some unforgivable sin.
