Chapter 50: Chapter 51: Mu Yue's Flaw is That He's Too Nice
Mu Yue followed the rules for the practical exam, allowing everyone to draw lots to determine the fighters. After each battle, he would give his feedback.
"Your use of the Transformation Technique was poorly timed and didn't serve its intended purpose. Your taijutsu is weak, and your punches are too slow."
"A shadow clone made so obviously won't fool anyone!"
"Your fist techniques aren't precise. Your kicks lack power, your footwork is sloppy, and your reflexes are too slow. How can you expect to defeat the enemy with such poor taijutsu?"
Mu Yue didn't hold back, and it could even be said that he was strict.
However, everything Mu Yue said was the truth. The students who were criticized by him lowered their heads in shame.
"I know that your results in the midterm exams were excellent, both in theory and practical scores, better than any other class. But that doesn't mean you can slack off in your training."
Mu Yue took a breath before continuing, "My words might have sounded harsh, and I apologize for that. But I did it for your own good. Taijutsu and ninjutsu are both important. If you don't train your taijutsu well now, you'll regret it when you face real enemies in the future."
After evaluating everyone, Mu Yue sighed.
"Mu Yue-sensei, I really didn't slack off. I spend as much time on taijutsu as I do on ninjutsu. It's just that the taijutsu teacher isn't as good as you, so it's hard to make progress," Hongdou said, feeling a little aggrieved.
"Yeah, I've been working hard, but the taijutsu teacher's teaching is so hard to understand," Gangzi Tie also complained.
At first, Gangzi Tie felt a bit upset about Mu Yue's strictness, thinking that he was too harsh on them since they were just in first year. But after hearing Mu Yue apologize, Gangzi Tie felt guilty. Mu Yue was doing this because he cared about them; he couldn't blame Mu Yue for being too strict.
The fact that the teacher apologized to them made Gangzi Tie feel even more ashamed. He had never heard of a teacher apologizing to students, and Mu Yue had never done anything wrong; it was simply part of his responsibilities as a teacher.
Hongdou and Gangzi Tie's words resonated with the rest of the students in Class 1, and soon, everyone joined in on the complaints.
"Mu Yue-sensei, can you please change our taijutsu teacher? He's so boring and hard to understand."
"Yeah, I feel like I could be the taijutsu teacher. All we do is run laps on the field. Who can't do that?"
"You guys can't say that about Teacher Kusamura. He's been teaching you for two months now. As a teacher, don't you think he wants you to get stronger?" Mu Yue started to defend the taijutsu teacher.
Their taijutsu teacher, Kusamura Toshihiro, had been teaching at the ninja academy for three years, unlike Mu Yue, who was new. However, despite his three years of experience, Kusamura's teaching abilities were far from impressive.
As a class teacher, Mu Yue had worked with Kusamura, and he had to admit that Kusamura's teaching level was lacking compared to Mu Yue's. Mu Yue was simply more effective in his teaching, and compared to Kusamura, he was on another level.
"We're not saying that he doesn't care about teaching, but it's just that his abilities aren't up to par," Shingetsu Izumo explained.
"Yeah, everyone in the next class says our ninjutsu is good, but no one ever says our taijutsu is good," someone else added.
Usually, the students didn't feel like there was a huge issue, but after discussing it among themselves, Class 1 realized that this was a bigger problem than they thought. It wasn't just a matter of boredom—it was about strength, which was the foundation of a ninja's abilities.
In the practical exams, students didn't fight to the death, and any accidents would be handled by the teachers. However, when it came to missions or actual battles with enemies, no one would hold back.
"This…" Mu Yue appeared to be in a difficult position, and after a deep sigh, he said, "Don't talk badly about Teacher Kusamura in front of him. Just practice taijutsu more in your free time. If you really don't understand something, feel free to ask me."
The students felt that Mu Yue was too kind, and they all felt for him. They thought that Mu Yue's temper was just too good.
"They're colleagues. Mu Yue-sensei probably doesn't want to put Kusamura-sensei in a difficult situation," Shisui thought to himself, seeing how Mu Yue was defending Kusamura.
Shisui also thought that Kusamura's teaching was terrible. It wasn't even comparable to the Uchiha clan's training or to Mu Yue's teaching.
After class, before leaving, Mu Yue once again reminded the students not to speak ill of Kusamura-sensei to his face and to be more understanding.
The students all agreed, and after Mu Yue left, Hongdou took the lead in discussing how they could get a new taijutsu teacher.
"Isn't it said that if our grades are bad, we'll get a new teacher? What if we deliberately fail?" one student suggested.
"But there's no separate taijutsu exam. If we intentionally fail in the practical exam, it'll affect Mu Yue-sensei too," Gangzi Tie shook his head and said.
"Then that's not an option. Mu Yue-sensei is so nice. I want him to teach us all the way until we graduate," Hongdou immediately dismissed that suggestion.
Hongdou's words were met with approval from the others.
"Then let's tell him the truth about his teaching abilities. Maybe that will make him leave," someone else quickly suggested.
"That doesn't sound right. Didn't Mu Yue-sensei tell us not to do that?" another student hesitated.
"This will actually help Mu Yue-sensei. Why not do it? The stronger we are, the more face he'll have," Gangzi Tie reasoned, thinking the idea had potential.
If they changed their taijutsu teacher, their strength would improve, which would ultimately benefit Mu Yue as well.
"I think the idea could work. We'll point out his teaching deficiencies and get him to leave," Shingetsu Izumo agreed.
"If he refuses to leave, I have another idea," Shingetsu Izumo added with a clever look in his eyes.
"Since the final exam is just over a month away, we should exaggerate our performance in both ninjutsu and taijutsu during the practical exam. That way, the school will see that the taijutsu teacher isn't doing his job well."
"But we must make sure our overall scores are good, so the school will take notice of us," Shingetsu Izumo reminded the others.
Gangzi Tie laughed as he put his arm around Izumo's shoulders, "You really are something, Izumo."
Everyone nodded in agreement, ready to train even harder for the final exams and get a new taijutsu teacher.
...
After lunch, Mu Yue didn't return to his office. Instead, he went to the office next door, where Kusamura Toshihiro worked.
"Yushiro-sensei," Mu Yue greeted as he entered the office. Many teachers greeted him, and Mu Yue smiled and responded before walking to Kusamura Toshihiro's desk.
He asked Kusamura to step outside under the pretext of needing to talk privately.
"Kusamura-sensei, I'm sorry," Mu Yue said, as he led Kusamura outside to a secluded area.
"Kusamura-sensei, is something going on? Why are you calling me out here?" Kusamura looked confused, not understanding the situation.
