Chapter 348: The Demon Who Wouldn’t Die
In Zain's hand, [Heavenly Demon Flame] flickered to life.
He stepped toward the throne, his eyes fixed on the skeleton pierced through with countless weapons.
"This is it," he murmured. "Let's end it."
He raised his hand, ready to cast the flame.
But just as the fire was about to touch the bones, the skeleton shook.
A sudden wave of killing intent exploded from it, making the air heavy and crushing.
The wooden floor groaned, dust falling from the ceiling.
Velra, Zelia, and Savra all staggered back, their breathing turning heavy under the pressure.
Zain narrowed his eyes. "An aura… as strong as a Supreme."
Then, from the bones, a voice thundered:"WHO DARES TO DISTURB… THE HEAVENLY DEMON?!"
Zain froze for a moment, confused. "The Heavenly Demon? This is my body, isn't it? Then how…?"
He took a step forward. "Who are you? You're no Heavenly Demon."
The bones began to glow.
A blinding light rose from them, twisting and forming into a human shape.
Not flesh and blood body, but an astral body, see-through like mist given form.
"I am the Heavenly Demon," the figure declared, voice deep and proud. "And you, four ants, dare to disturb my slumber?"
The girls glanced at each other, then at Zain.
Savra smirked. "Zain… is this how you looked in your past life?"
Velra tilted her head. "Old, bald, and wrinkled?"
Zain's face twisted in disgust. "Of course not! Don't insult me."
He jabbed a finger toward the glowing figure. "Let me tell you, I was the most handsome man in that world."
"This ugly old bastard with wrinkles, no hair, and a face that looks like it's been stepped on by a horse? Not me. There is no way he was me."
Velra covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. "Then… who is he?"
Zelia frowned. "If he's not you… then why does he call himself the Heavenly Demon?"
Savra leaned in close to Zain with a teasing grin. "Or are you just embarrassed because you actually did go bald in your past life?"
Zain shot her a glare. "Don't even joke about that."
But before he could say anything more, the glowing figure's expression twisted.
His eyes blazed with killing intent, and the air around them turned heavier.
"You dare… to slander me?!" the astral Heavenly Demon roared.
His voice cracked through the hall like thunder, shaking the broken walls. "You dare question my glory?! Courting death!"
The aura intensified. The wooden floor beneath them splintered.
The throne cracked under the force. Even Savra and Velra staggered back, their smiles fading.
Zain only tilted his head, smirking."Oh? The fake is mad now?"
The astral figure's teeth clenched, and his spectral form seemed to swell, becoming larger and more imposing.
"Fake?! Boy, I built an empire with my bare hands! I crushed sects, I destroyed kingdoms! Who are you to question me?!"
Zain crossed his arms. "Funny… I did all that too. The difference is, I looked good while doing it."
The astral Heavenly Demon's face twisted with rage. His killing intent surged, shaking the hall. "You dare mock me… I'll erase you from existence!"
Crimson-black flames burst into his palm, twisting and writhing like living serpents.
The temperature spiked, and even the air around them started to burn.
"Take this, [Heavenly Demon Flame] and burn for eternity!" he roared, swinging his blazing hand toward Zain's chest.
But Zain didn't move away.
He stepped in, caught the man's flaming wrist with one hand, and squeezed.
The astral Heavenly Demon's eyes widened. "H-how… how can you withstand the flame of the Heavenly Demon?!"
Zain's smirk widened. "Of course I can, stupid geezer."
His grip tightened, and the black-crimson fire sputtered, unable to scorch him.
"To think… after my death, your soul was still here, stealing my body. But it looks like that you were forced into a deep sleep."
Zain pushed the man's hand down and stepped closer, his eyes burning with contempt.
"Seeing you here… it actually makes me happy. Because now, I can trash you all over again."
The astral Heavenly Demon's expression darkened. "...Who are you?"
Zain chuckled, low and cold. "Don't tell me you've forgotten, old man."
The hall seemed to grow heavier as he spoke, his voice cutting through the silence like a blade.
"I'm the one you trained… the one whose body you wanted to steal so you could learn the real Heavenly Demon Art."
He leaned forward, eyes locked on the astral figure.
"I am Mo Tianheng… the Heavenly Demon."
The astral figure froze. His eyes widened, his expression twisting into disbelief. "N-no… it can't be. This body is Mo Tianheng's! And Mo Tianheng… died… so many years ago!"
The girls turned toward Zain, the truth clicking in their minds.
Zelia narrowed her eyes. "So this astral Heavenly Demon… isn't you?"
Savra crossed her arms, her voice sharp. "Then he's the former Heavenly Demon… the one who tried to take your body."
Velra smirked faintly. "And now he's meeting the real deal."
Zain nodded slowly, never breaking eye contact with the glowing figure. "Exactly. That's why I asked you to step back."
The girls obeyed without question, moving to the sides of the hall.
The air grew heavier as Zain's ether flared, faint crimson sparks dancing along his coat.
He tilted his head slightly, his tone dripping with mockery.
"The world… it's truly generous to me. Not only did it let me live again, but it's given me the chance to trash you again. For the third time." His smirk widened.
"How lucky. How fortunate I am."
The astral Heavenly Demon's voice cracked with a mix of anger and confusion. "You… you are Mo Tianheng?! How can this be?!"
Zain stepped forward, his boots echoing against the dusty floor.
"You can ask the others..." his smirk turned razor sharp "...when I send you to meet them."
Crimson-black ether surged around his body like a storm, the heat of it distorting the air.
The astral figure's expression shifted from disbelief to pure fury, his own aura answering with violent force.
Two Heavenly Demons stood facing each other in the ruined hall, the air between them crackling with killing intent.
