Chapter 15: See You In Court
Sometimes Lisa really detested the things she had to go through just to keep up this stupid farce of a friendship. Her oblivious 'friend' Olivia had gone all the way to drop her off right at her home which was the last place she needed to be. On top of that, Lisa had forced herself to wait for fifteen whole minutes to be certain that Olivia had left the area for sure before leaving her house again.
As she slid into the backseat of the cab she had called, Lisa's thoughts went back to the young man she had seen just before they had left the restaurant earlier that morning. The resemblance between him and Noah was far too much to be dismissed. Not that Lisa needed any further confirmation beyond Olivia's reaction at the moment they had run into the young man.
She knew that Olivia was normally a pleasant person even to strangers. But the woman had acted so coldly back then that it had to be Damian. Only someone from the Grant family could have provoked such a reaction from Olivia. That information was something that would surely be of interest to Noah. And that meant she herself was also proving her worth to the man she desired. If everything went well, she would finally get him to see just how valuable she could be to him.
"Then he won't have any need for that bitch Olivia," Lisa muttered under her breath, venom lacing her tone as she left the cab and marched down to where she had left her car. To her immense annoyance, there was a small yellow ticket tucked under her window wipers. An officer had probably placed it there due to how long the car had been abandoned in the wrong place.
Her dislike for Olivia reaching even newer heights, Lisa got into the car and pulled away angrily from the curb before shooting down the asphalt like a bat out of hell. Throughout her drive, she continued to think about how she would enjoy her future with Noah once all of this was over and Olivia was nothing more than an afterthought for both of them. Within a few minutes, she had arrived at the front of the Rock Enterprise company headquarters.
She left the car at the corner of the building's parking lot and walked in through the glass doors with the aura of someone who felt like they existed on a different level compared to others. The receptionist issued her a courtesy greeting but she she did not even attempt to reply the woman, drawing a look of contempt from the latter. Making her way to the elevator, Lisa rode the metal box all the way to the top where she went straight to the last door at the end of the hallway.
"Hello Noah," she purred out as she stepped inside and shut the door behind her.
Across the room from the woman, Noah looked up from where he had been working on several documents all morning as soon as he heard the door open. His features switched from normal to slightly annoyed before falling into the mask of false pleasantness that he had designed specifically for Lisa.
"I thought I told you that it was not good for you to visit me here," he said to her, his lips setting in a faint frown.
"I know Noah," Lisa replied and sidled up to the man who watched her approach with closely guarded eyes. Slipping behind his desk to seat on his lap, she leaned in for a kiss which Noah responded very positively. His large hands came down to press on her sides and back, drawing her closer to his warm body before he pulled away, leaving Lisa breathless and flush with desire.
"I know you did not risk my plans just for a 'play' session," said Noah once they separated. "What did you come to tell me?"
Lisa took a moment to catch her breath, causing Noah to smirk a little at her reaction before she began to relay everything she had seen that morning with Olivia. A tight frown slipped onto Noah's expression when she mentioned that Olivia had gone to see someone in a restaurant. But the moment Lisa mentioned Damian's name, Noah's eyes widened in surprise and he sat up immediately.
Lisa looked at him with uncertainty in her eyes. She could not help but wonder if she had made a mistake by mentioning the man's brother in her report, especially since she did not know whether it actually held value or not to the situation.
"Noah? Is something wrong?" She asked tentatively.
"No," he replied sharply before shifting on his chair and forcing Lisa to stand up. The look on his face had changed to one that was full of a cautious fury that made the man seem suddenly unapproachable.
"What do you want me to do now? I'm kind of tired of following Olivia around the city."
"Well you'll have to put up with it if you want everything to work out, Lisa," Noah reminded her. "But you've done well with this. What I need you to do now, is to find out what exactly happened in that restaurant."
Still a little bit concerned with the man's sudden change in mood, Lisa nodded shakily and left the office quickly. As soon as she was gone, Noah wasted no time in going to his phone and dialing the number of the head of his security detail. The call went through in seconds, and Noah ordered the man to track down and locate his brother before the latter was able to leave the city.
After the call, Noah paced up and down the length of the room, unable to sit back down with all the tension that was currently weighing him down. The moment his phone rang, he wasted no time in picking it up to receive the report from his subordinate. Once he got the information he needed, he left his office in a hurry and was out of the building so quickly that even the employees could not hide their surprise.
Minutes later, Noah had arrived in front of one of the numerous hotels that filled the city. Whether by coincidence or not, he did not know, but the moment his car was pulling up in front of the building, Noah caught sight of his younger brother walking down the gilded stairs towards a sleek black limousine waiting just a few meters after of him.
"Damian!" He called out right before the other man could enter the car. "What the hell do you think you're doing in this city?"
Damian paused for a moment, then he turned and gave his brother a cold smile that was full of hidden intent. "The same thing you're doing here, brother. I'm just making sure everything works out as it should. I will see you in court, Noah, when it's time for me to inherit our father's empire."
