Harry Potter: Using science to be IMMORTAL

Chapter 380: Chapter 379: Magical Disasters

Although Murphy had some doubts about Myriam, Arkaim was not his territory, and he couldn't just enter the Ancestral Tomb whenever he wished. For now, Murphy could only start with the Empress's vampire symptoms, eliminating these possible factors.

Due to the potential to extend human life, Murphy had allocated a significant amount of resources to the vampire research project group, which had now become one of the most important projects within the transformation research group.

Murphy first inquired about the recent progress of the vampire project group through Lucas.

The need to go through Lucas was because the transnational fiber-optic cables between Sukhov and England had not yet been connected. Murphy's Pioneer computing power could not extend to England. To access the UK's internet, he had to connect through the mind network to Lucas and then relay through him.

He quickly found that the vampire project group had made several significant moves, such as completing specific chromosome sequencing of bats using second-generation sequencing technology.

They were also collaborating with a British company named "Nanopore" to develop third-generation genetic sequencing technology.

Murphy then had Lucas look up Nanopore and found its founder was a professor from Oxford University named Hagenberry, with Umbrella Corporation holding a 67% stake, making it the company's largest shareholder.

Last year, the company proposed a human genome sequencing project to the UK Parliament, advancing the original world's genome sequencing project by more than two years.

This was the butterfly effect brought about by Murphy.

Murphy returned to the Magic Research Institute and met with David Dimo, the head of the vampire research group.

"How is the research on vampire deficiencies going?" Murphy asked.

"This area was not our research focus before, but after you issued the research task, we've made many attempts. We're now comparing the differences and similarities between the vampire and normal human genomes, as well as further comparing the differences between vampire chromosomes and ordinary bat chromosomes, trying to identify the causes of those deficiencies."

"However, our whole-genome sequencing technology is not fast at the moment. It might take some time before we see some results."

"The third-generation sequencing technology you're developing with Hagenberry, how is that progressing?"

"The commercial preparation of the polymer membrane still faces some problems, but we can now preliminarily produce the key materials in the lab and can prioritize building one or two sequencers."

"Oh? That fast?" Murphy was pleasantly surprised. The third-generation sequencing technology in his original world didn't leave the lab until around 2010.

"Thanks to the increase in computing power of modern computers and Athena's supercomputing power, we've saved a lot of time in model construction," David said.

Murphy nodded. This was why he insisted on developing chips. The improvement in computing power has a huge impact on technological research.

"In that case, prioritize getting the prototype out, then focus on deficiency research." Murphy thought for a moment, "And don't just compare it to the normal human genome; compare it to the wizarding genome as well. If possible, conduct whole-genome sequencing on wizards."

The wizarding genome might contain the secrets of magic. If they could identify the genetic differences between wizards and Muggles, perhaps he wouldn't need to worry about the shortage of wizards.

And understanding the wizard's genome might also help solve his own genetic disorder.

Genome sequencing is the key to studying genes and genetics, crucial for understanding the existence of wizards. Maybe he could dig something up from memory with a Total Recall?

Just as he was preparing to give his brain another round of Total Recall, a message from a Thunderbird caught his attention.

Since the establishment of the Ravenclaw Tower, Murphy and his close confidants had adopted more convenient communication methods, rarely using ravens anymore. Thus, those Thunderbirds Murphy left in the outside world were either serving as automatic cameras monitoring something or were used by those not in his core circle.

The message this time came from a Thunderbird left at Malfoy Manor.

After Murphy planted the "loyalty" mind seed in Lucius Malfoy, he had used Lucius for some school-related matters but hadn't paid much attention to him afterward.

Malfoy's influence was already meaningless to Murphy, who now had control over the Ministry of Magic and Gringotts.

That Thunderbird was originally used to monitor the Malfoy family, but as Murphy lost interest, its job became much easier.

Aside from occasionally sending a few updates on the Malfoy family to show it was still working, it spent its days enjoying snacks fed by Narcissa and teasing other female ravens bought by the Malfoy family to accompany the "Messenger Lord."

Life was comfortable and enjoyable.

Murphy had almost forgotten about this raven over the years, usually discarding its messages directly. But now, this Thunderbird used the emergency communication mode, surprising Murphy. Could Lucius have betrayed him again?

He connected to the raven, and what appeared before him was the face of a crying woman.

"Please, Lord Raven, only Lord Murphy can save Draco now..."

"Caw, calling Lord Mugga, caw..."

"Narcissa, what are you doing?!" Lucius appeared before the raven, "Are you mad?! Disturbing Lord Murphy with such trivialities!"

"Trivialities? Lucius! Our child is lost, trapped in a terrible place, alive or dead, we don't know, and you call this a triviality?!"

"I've already spoken to Crouch. They've sent Aurors in for the search. Draco will be fine. And I've contacted Snape; he'll help. Messenger Lord, you haven't called Lord Murphy, have you?"

Narcissa was about to say more when suddenly, the raven beside her cawed loudly. Then, several bolts of lightning flashed beside it, and Murphy, in his black robes, appeared before her.

Murphy first looked at the raven in his hand, which had become as plump as a chicken, quite speechlessly. This creature had been captivated by Narcissa's insect bombs.

But the matter of the raven could wait. He turned to Narcissa.

"What happened?"

"Lord Murphy?!" Lucius knelt down immediately, "I'm terribly sorry for the disturbance!"

"Forget it, tell me, what happened to Draco?"

Lucius, after all, was among the first to side with Murphy, serving as a banner in his camp, though he had little use now. But he could be used to show a bit of kindness towards his subordinates.

"Lord Murphy!" Narcissa grabbed Murphy's robe, "Draco joined the special training squad. They said they were going to conduct a magical disaster exercise, but after they entered that swamp, they never came out. Two Aurors sent to search for them also disappeared!"

"Lucius dared not trouble you with such matters, but I overheard him saying that the magical disaster was no ordinary event, and ordinary wizards could do nothing about it."

"Lord Murphy, please, save Draco."

Magical disaster?

Indeed, reports of magical disasters from the Ministry of Magic seemed to have increased lately, and the Empress also mentioned Arkaim was struggling with similar issues.

The frequent occurrence of magical disasters did not seem to be limited to one area.

Could this be related to the rise in magical levels?

Murphy thought for a moment, "Where did Draco go?"
